This 14" handwheel is for a hybrid hydraulic press I designed and built for assembling projects around the shop. I hope you enjoy this little one as I took over six hours of video for it :) Thanks to you all, subscribers and supporters. I am really enjoying seeing this channel grow.
Making an engraved tag at home with a New Hermes pantograph engraver. Awesome tool.

In this video, I cover the basic operation of a vintage New Hermes pantograph-style engraver and make a tag for a shop-built 20-ton hybrid hydraulic press. Hope you enjoy! Best, Boone Testerman

I do as the title states. My back still feels the 1983 Ford F-250 slamming into the ground. Anyway a little entertainment for these strange times.

Wish this was a full rebuild. Mine is leaking from under the flange with the two five sided bolts.
GOOD VIDEO, INFORMATIVE VIDEO
Tengo uno igual al suyo , gracias
Thank you
Slop is pig feed, you mean Backlash.
Thanks a lot pal, really appreciate you!!
hi cool video what is the liquid you put on the letters before tracing?
Its called dykem, a machining tracing fluid/ layout fluid. Smells like a sharpie
how did you get the speedo needle back on correctly?
Start her up, stick the needle on at 0
In my case there were three clips on gears. I don’t remember where the third was. It’s a little different, it has a bent tab to allow pulling it
This is good to know. Thanks for commenting
you did an EXCELLENT job explaining this; great communication skills! No BS. Straight up tear down and detailed reassembly. THANK YOU! >>>>>>>Merica!
Really well done video. Did you end up painting it?
Great video- thank you
Is it for sale? I'll pay you a good amount
i am doing this exact thing right now. my circuit board is pretty ugly also but i didnt find any open traces. the anode leg of both capacitors snapped off really easily when i barely touched them so i am going to replace them both and hope that is the fix. the big one is 100uF 25v 105C, the little one is 10uF 25v 105C. $5 for 5 each on amazon. i set up a bench test to test it with the speed sensor also. +12v to speed sensor pin 1 & IGN on the board, -12v to speed sensor pin 2 & GND on the board, speed sensor pin 3 to SEN on the board. rig something up to turn the sensor with a drill, needs to have plenty of slop in it so you dont break the little plastic gear.
Excellent work. I just pick up an older New Hermes. It’s good to know the rotary feature can cut more than plastic.
Right? Handy little tools
For anyone watching this with any hesitate, dont worry. Southbend 9 aprons are super simple. If you have trouble remembering locations, take a couple pictures but you really shouldn't need to. Go for it.
Yes you are right they do seem pretty complicated but are relatively straightforward. I made this video because although each assembly is easy when you look at the whole thing it is pretty complex, especially for anyone just getting into machining. Take care, Boone
I have an old benchmaster machine, works great for my needs
Hi, Could you please tell me the model number of your New Hermes engraver? I just bought a similar one, but can't find the model number. Mine is manual, not motorized.
I have a Benchmaster. I want to know if there’s somebody who has the original auto feed, who can show me how it works. Those are hard to find
Good question
Awesome, really beautiful tag and great video!
Have you considered a height extension? I want to do the dro to mine as well as try to make a height extension to help out the limited height when using a vise or rotary table. Would love to collaborate
Sorry for my late response! Finals week. I have quite a bit. Email me at wboone.testerman@gmail.com or @boonetesterman on instagram.
Have you done any cutting with this machine like to see what it would do a buddy of mine just picked one up I'm going to make a video of it and put it on my channel we're going to go over it and get it fixed up
Adding this one to my saved videos for the future. Haha
Awesome work! I just picked up a non running benchmaster mill for $50 last week, took an afternoon to get it cleaned up and running again, and now can't wait to get a DRO on it. My only problem so far is I can't get the Y axis trammed in, any tips on adjustment on the Y? I got the X axis dialed in to 0.001" over ten inches but can't figure out the Y, I'm hoping it isn't non adjustable as its out about 1 thou per inch.
Nice you got a great deal on one of these. Did you tram in the z axis too? If you are measuring from an anchored point on the body you’ll run into two different variables z and y. You could set the x gib screws by setting up your indicator stand (hopefully mag base) on the z axis knee. The lowest curved piece of cast iron that rides on the body dovetails and make or find a flat surface for the probe. Honestly though, if your having issues, you may just want to take the table off, knock the pin out of the y axis handwheel to remove the carriage and clean everything really well, focussing on the dovetails and gibs. If you don’t have it already, pick up some good quality machine tool oil like Mobil way oil in this case. That and properly set gib screws should get you about as close as you can. Thank you
Thanks bud
I have a benchmaster. What dro did u use? Where did u get it?
Could you do more videos on the bench master. I remember you saying you could do a gear cutting video
Excellent video !! Thank you .
I have an RC2510 that has no spring. Would that be an older model?
Nice beefy knee table on these benchtop units but too limited without a lever action quill for my liking. Good video and tidy organized space.
Thanks! I know what you mean. I’d love to build one with a quill. There was someone who put a Bridgeport head on one of these

Thank you for information
I have to do this job soon to a Heavy 10R. You make it look so easy! But the price for that kit has gone up a LOT in the last 4 years. Thanks for a great video!
Awww that sucks to hear but best of luck to ya! It’s just felt when it gets down to it. You could get a sheet of 0.125 and cut it appropriately with tin snips
Hi i hv a enerpac hand pump. When i apply load to system i lose at least 1k psi When i put it on hold. I DONT HAVE A LEAK. Im using a digital pressure gauge for the test. I cannot physcially see the cylinder retracting bk. So how do i go abt troubleshoot this problem sir?
Good question. Ill be able to help you out. How long are you keeping it on hold?
Definitely the best video on how to rebuild the apron. Do you have any vids of rebuilding the other components on the SB9? Just wondering what you use for way oil as well? Only real way oil I can get is sold in 5 gal quantity, so I'm looking for an alternative, heard engine oil work well
Hey bud, so glad you liked the video! www.ebay.com/itm/123818051435?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=0OtUlcMfRO6&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=9yr47rxpqve&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY This is the stuff I use mobile vectra no. 2 way oil in 1 qt quantity. It’s good quality stuff. You definitely could use motor oil but this is a higher grade oil that smells less and is easy to clean up in the cold. Also the bottle is great for application.
That's clever. I've done the same with a portable jump starter to get my wall charger going.
Great video! Pronounced HER-mees after the Greek God
very helpful methodics! a new subscriber.
How does the worm gear really come off. at 7:06 or so, it magically just comes out, but not really seeing how it got there.
The key inside the worm gear has a pin that goes through the barrel of the work gear into the nut. Find the pin in the nut with a small round punch and tap it out then unthread the nut. Thanks for asking
Peace ✌️
I wish I grew up with a father…😢
Sweeet. Nice to see a fellow Benchmaster owner giving new life to these little tanks.
Can I ask what DRO you used? Was it a complete kit?
Very cool! I just picked up a Benchmaster mill today. I'm sure I will have some questions for you.
Feel free to ask!
excellent explanation.
I have something wrong with my hyper tough drill and I had to put battery on a charge with different source than the charger cause the drill has about 1000 ohm draw while not running
Awesome thanks
