The Oingo Boingo Experience | Adam's Den
A journey through Oingo Boingo's history and enduring legacy, filled with 80s music and movies. Explore the iconic band's indelible mark on pop culture, how it shaped a timeless era, and its influence on Danny Elfman's evolution into a celebrated film composer.
Few notes:
. Certain Oingo Boingo songs have always given me vibes of some of Danny Elfman's work as a film composer, even though they didn't feature in a specific film he scored. As is the case of "Nasty Habits" edited over Beetlejuice (1988), and "No One Live Forever" edited over "The Nightmare Before Christmas".

    The best ever! Saw them live almost every year somewhere in Southern California at Halloween and New Year’s. They were my favorite from the minute I first heard them and saw them play. The most underrated band of all time. The best live show and always sounded live as they did on their albums. They knew how to perform and entertain. They will always be my #1. Grey Matter was a shot at their record label who wanted them to be more “pop” but they said their fans were smarter than the label gave them credit for.

    • @1PhingerSalute
      @1PhingerSalute 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The Danny Elfman Solo album was actually the entire band playing on all the songs but it was released as Elfman’s “Solo” album due to a contractual obligation for him to release a solo album. It’s still all Oingo Boingo.

    • @theadamsden
      @theadamsden 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@1PhingerSalute Thank you for all that - and how right they were to trust their fans were smarter than the label thought they were. Proof is in the 40 year-old pudding where the cult following they left behind is still going strong into the 21st century. The 80s (and 90s) were such a unique and amazing decade to live through, and the Boingo embodies so much of that spirit. Sadly, I was never able to see them live but that has little to no bearing on how much I love and admire all of their work - clearly. Glad to have you at the Den - enjoy 😎

    Thanks to Adam's Den. Great compilation. I'm not the only one to mention the 3 different venues for the song Grey Matter is impressively synchronized. Tight Band. Great editing. Oingo Boingo is so entertaining. You can see the pure 'hopping' and dancing fun in the crowd I'm in my mid-50's and it was next to impossible not to chair dance (at the least).

    The timing of Quiet on Set is nothing short of providential. A couple years ago we had Jennette McCurdy releasing her book about the abuse she faced from Hollywood and her mom, then Drake Bell came out and released the receipts on some of the other Don Schneider abuse, and then stars from Zach and Cody have the same receipts. These were just Nickalodian and Disney Channel, who knows how much more abuse was going on behind the scenes on other shows and channels in the industry.

    As an old guy (I used to record the first broadcast episodes using a VCR on a timer), I have the same envy as you for the "newbies" that are seeing it for the first time. It has often been said that B5 was in competition with ST: DS9. Both shows premiered in 1993 and there is a rumor that after JMS pitched B5 to Paramount, DS9 stole the concept. Even so, B5 comes out the winner. Despite having major studio backing and pedigree, DS9 pales in comparison and even though B5 got pushed off of one network onto another, its fanbase was so strong, it was unstoppable.

      Thanks for that, Louis! I have yet to see DS9 which, as an absolute fan of scifi, I'm sure I will enjoy. I'm not sure how DS9 escaped me back in the day, I can only assume I was focused on other things. But it's definitely on my list. Nevertheless, B5 is among the greats and lives on!

    Both Missing 411 and Missing 411 The Hunted are free on YT with ads. I have all of Mr. Paulides's books and the only thing that I have concluded is that there is not one set answer for all of these disappearances. Thanks for an honest review.

      Thanks so much, digger dog! And I agree with your assessment. However, there do seem to be common denominators across some of the cases and I wouldn't be surprised if they had a similar cause. What that is, though... remains to be seen.

      @@theadamsden I think it goes a lot deeper like 16 missing scientist of Germanic descent who have never been found. You may want to look to the far south on that.

    I have been following David Paulides work for about 6 months. He uses documented facts, and has a list of criteria that his cases fall into before listing them as Missing 411. His intent is to bring awareness of this phenomena to the public. A most fascinating subject indeed!

      I was a police officer for SPD and looked into Paulides about 4 years ago through my own resources and I have not found ANY evidential proof that he was ever in law enforcement. The only person I found under his name being a police officer for any department was a man who was fired from the job about 20+ years ago (in a different department he has claimed to be working with back in the day) for abuse of power along with some other suspensions of bad police procedures. There is no credentials I can find that states he was a legitimate LEO.
