Your video is very nice, I like it very much
Great video, great insights from Nicholas Charles. 99 percent of financial advice focuses solely on managing the financial assets and completely fails to address the human reasons that are behind wealth failure.
Hi, I wanted to ask if I got a buy to let property but live with my parents have no residence property. I am looking to buying house to live in. Do I have pay higher stamp duty rate or normal rate? Thanks
MTV's choices at the end left a generation without a voice...
Hi. If i am first buyer then sell and buy another propery still having one property, do i still pay SDLT?

Does it not need to be 6 unit you purchase from the SAME vendor.
Yes good question
Same vendor, or connected vendors (husband or wife, same family, etc). Happy to discuss! Please feel free to email me: jlangton@ctatax.uk.com
Hello, if I want to rent out my first-bought property do I still get the stamp duty tax benefit? The property is below 625000
Hi there, there is a possible saving here! Please could you email jlangton@ctatax.uk.com and one of our advisers will be in touch to gain more information, this is a free review. Regards, James
Ha ha ha get a grip, like landlords have any of their renters interest ant heart it’s all self interest. Don’t make these people out to be saints. At least keep it credible.
Of course there is self-interest. Why would you bother to build or invest in property if it's no longer commercially viable? We have a problem of demand outstripping supply, how would stopping more property come to the market solve this? James
All a big game of policy change. Property wins in the end. Just got to stick it out further from now.
Excellent view!
Last year you said "house prices will rise 5-8% over 2023 as overseas investors rush in" - prices then fell as investors very predictably stayed away. You now seem to be pedalling almost the same "will rise by 8%" message again this year... I see you've left it until Feb to hedge your bets, but even with this will you be second time lucky? Who knows!
nice video
Doesn’t feel like a genuine analysis of the situation, but rather another chain- business in estate agent side that wanted to come up and save their own job by screaming at everyone: “Everything is fine, just come and buy a property, otherwise I won’t be able to pay my own mortgage and go on holiday!!!” That’s fair, and I respect it. But to anyone who wants a actual in-depth and impartial analysis/ opinions/ discussion- go on ether Moving home with Charlie/ Gary’s economic 😅
Hi, we've been doing these videos for the last 3 years, and we've been correct each time! :)
@@CornerstoneTaxNo you very obviously haven't been right every year! Last year you said 5-8% rise, the market actually fell. Just check your own videos (although I suspect they'll now be removed)
@@purplebadgers8375 Hi, we haven't removed any videos! They are still there James
NO property crash will ever happen....the days when home prices fall are behind..the powers that be have planned this out a LONG time ago...
What % do you think they will increase this year?
@@CornerstoneTax Not too sure BUT a crash like Margaret Thatchers time is VERY unlikely too happen...too many economies are interlinked so a major crash here will no doubt effect economies there..
Never going to happen so long as immigrants keep coming in by the million. Demand will always rocket above supply.
More homes need to be built!
Personally, I'd love it if there was a 50% fall in property prices in the UK - perhaps then "homes" (not "investments") would become affordable for everyday hard-working folks.
If property prices crashed 50% you'd be lucky to get a mortgage until things settle. In the meantime cash rich investment companies / individuals would hoover up all the distressed sales and the would government pull out all stops to reignite the housing market. Prices would then recover and the last people that could take advantage is average Joe. This happened after the 2008 liquidity crisis to some extent. Retaining higher interest rates would be the best outcome because it'll reduce affordability for both private and investment purposes and bring down prices.
@@stumac869 I see... So what's the solution to the current predicament (where Joe Average can't afford to get on the property ladder or have any hope of owning their own home)? Perhaps let free-market forces do their thing? Perhaps the government should stop implementing these "schemes" that artificially prop up the UK house prices? BTW - I'm saying this as someone who owns a property in central London. It was being rented out at £2,000 a month in 2020, today it's £4,500 a month. I left the UK back in 2020, best move I ever made.
The reality is if property values crashed by 50% you wouldn’t get a mortgage & the properties would get snapped up by investment groups & hedge funds then values would recover meanwhile rental prices would continue increasing! Be careful what you wish for! 🙄🤦♂️
Sadly, not something that would ever convincedly happen!
@@CornerstoneTax True. It's the main reason why we moved out of the UK. We just felt like you don't really get what you pay for there, and we were right!
I hope there will not be a property crash. not good if that happens.
It would be good for first-time home buyers who work regular jobs and who are not earning 6 figure salaries.
@@MnemonicCarrier true
If prices house prices crashed, that wouldn't be in isolation without serious detrimental impact to other parts of the economy. And those regular jobs might no longer exist....
Agree!
Straight to the point, thanks for the information and advice
Thank-you! James

Hello Is this stamp duty due yearly? Or when you pay for your home and then you just pay the stamp duty one time? I’ve done a bit of research and I’m not hearing if this is a on going payment or a one time?
Hi! This is a one time payment, due within 14 days of your property purchase. James
@@CornerstoneTax thank you
This is good advice for first buy
Hi! Thank-you for the comment! What other videos would you like us to create? James
Last thing UK needs is for pension funds to buy houses. We've already got whole families clubbing together to pay a mortgage for 40 years on a one bed flat in London. It's out of hand as it is
We agree! Do you think the market will drop next year?
What if one buys an unhabitable property in your personal name as an addition property (3% extra)? Does one still pay 5%?
Hi! Yes, potentially up to 5% but there may be other reliefs available to reduce it below 5%. Please feel free to email me if you wish to discuss as the details on what you are buying to check if the property qualifies as uninhabitable in the first place to see if there are any other savings available. jlangton@ctatax.uk.com is my email address Regards, James

@5:06 “you keep hearing stories about nightmare tenants, and you’ve got a friend who has suffered from a nightmare tenant” I bet you don’t have a friend who has suffered from a nightmare landlord! It goes both ways. It’s not just tenants that cause problems, even in the private sector.
Hi there, Actually we do! A family member who had to be moved out after the landlord refused to fix defects. What we're saying is there's good and bad on both sides and yet the narrative always seems to be about Landlords as a group.

But i thought you said back in December that house prices would recover by now and we'd have "low to mid single digit growth" in house prices by the end of this year as overseas sellers rushed in? Have you now changed your mind? And if so, what makes your advice correct this time when you got it so wrong last time?
Hi there, thanks for your comment! We enjoy all discussions regarding the UK property market. We'd have to go over our old video to check, but despite the doom and gloom in the current market, we are fairly confident there will be a single-digit increase. This is from the same man that back in December predicted house prices would rise this year as foreign investors flooded into the market..... I said then that no one should trust you with their money if you truly believed that (the numbers simply don't stack up in the analysis). I'm sure you're a decent guy, but anyone who trusted you back then will now probably be in financial difficulties, so I truly hope no one is taking you seriously now!
Hi thanks for your comment. It seems a little early to say the predictions are wrong when we're only 6 months into the year. We will resist the temptation to say the matter is still up in the air..but can comment that one of our staff recently sold their house to a Honk Kong based investor for cash.....so maybe it's the numbers that are misleading?
...or maybe the numbers were spot on and it was you who were misleading people. It's now 1/1/2024, there was no bounce, no rush of foreign investors and prices are down. Who could have predicted that...!

Headbangers Ball was a brilliant, important part of life in the mid 90s! Vanessa was a fantastic host, she wasnt just some random VJ that was hired to introduce bands she didnt really like. She was a fan, she loved the bands, she had excellent insight and entertaining interviews. I have fantastic memories of her themed HHB shows on Metallica, Soundgarden, Machine Head. She cared about the bands and helped them. I remember when MTV changed their format and lost themed shows as she discusses here. That was about in 1997. Fair play to her for revamping her life and career, shes amazing. I still would love to see her get the Blue hair dye again, and watch her interview Lars Ulrich again some day.👍👍😀
