It’s 3 years later…wonder if the State has done anything to improve the trail. Other states, like the Katy Trail in Missouri, have awesome Rail-to-Trail routes. Good job!

I think I’ll wait until the trail is a bit more developed. I can see myself breaking a body part trying to navigate that trail.

That trail would be no problem on foot. Us thru hikers don't care about mud

Hey thanks Nate! I ran the trail 4 years ago and got lost at the same spot in Pecan Gap. I'm going to run the whole thing in a few weeks so your video really helps "crazy" Ultra runners like me. Looking forward to the second half! I've logged well over 4,000 miles on this trail mostly Merit/Celeste and back to Farmersville (2020 I had 2,400).

Thanks for sharing.I watched both parts of the trip. I hope one day they will be able to improve the trail so it is rideable in it's entirety.

What app are you using to keep up with this trail? Did I miss it? Needs lots of detours? Even the comment requires lots of question marks!!!!

I just happened across your video. I live in Roxton, so I thought it was neat to see your video. I don’t bike so I haven’t really seen the trail much myself, but I enjoy seeing everyone come thru from time to time.

Great video! Ive been curious about this trail and you basically confirmed my suspicions of the lack of maintenance. Good on you for doing it anyways!!!

They have done some more work on it this year (2021). At least from Farmersville to Celeste. Celeste to Wolfcity is more rugged but not bad. I haven't been past Wolfcity to Paris (this year) but that's the part that seems to be the most unkept. I'll let ya'll know in January for sure!

The NETT's easternmost trail banked entities ust got nearly $8 million in trail development/transportation alternatives grants. Clarksville to New Boston will be under construction to become fully developed in the next couple of years. In 2021 there became 50 contiguous miles of fully developed all weather compacted gravel trail between Roxton and Clarksville. I hope you'll come back and ride the NETT soon!

@@davidr5685 My experience was the same. Celeste to Wolf City was overgrown in the early summer, but ridable. (Lots of spiders/webs.) Needs more cyclists/users. And yes, more maintenance. Heard plans of making it a state park. Not sure of the time line. Know one of the issues has been area landowners reclaiming the land lost to the RR after they removed the tracks. Has potential, just not there yet.

are you using a gravel bike or a road bike with gravel tires? I'm thinking of doing this, but I only have a road bike. Any suggestions?

Looks like a great adventure! It’s such a shame Texas has put in so much time, efforts, and money to make the trail to only let it go to waist. It looks like it never gets maintained, and the locals appear to be tearing it up with off road vehicles. It’s tough to be a cyclist in southern states. No repect for cyclist or the laws to keep us safe… no education about cyclist traffic laws… no enforcement of those laws. Then they make safer passages but don’t maintain them. There needs to be cycling organizations that will keep things on track and keep cyclist safer

They NorthEast Texas Trail is a rail banked trail project currently owned by non profit entities and very poor very small North East Texas towns. This is not a Texas State Park, yet. So far all of the NETT's development was the result of fund raising to match trail development grants or grants were matched by generous local non profits. Nearly all the maintenance on the less developed rural parts of the133 mile trail has been done by volunteers. The trail has come a very long way in the past 10 years and was recently awarded almost $8 million in transportation alternatives grants to completely finish the eastern half over the next few years. Find out more about this exciting project at www.nettrail.org

So what's your current feeling on the trail? Some parts look awesome, but other parts look like more detouring and bushwacking than biking.

  • @mercedesautox

If you end up going back, I believe the fence that you came across in the video is actually a primitive gate. It looks like there is a loop of wire at the top of the stick to the left that's holding it tight. You should be able to lift that loop of wire and pull the stick back allowing you to pass through without having to go over, just make sure you close it behind you. Also, I really appreciate the video, I just found out about this trail a couple of days ago and it seems like it required bushwhacking to get through not that long ago. However, after seeing this it seems like a viable weekend trip. It looks like they're making pretty decent progress clearing it out. Hopefully it'll be fully ride able one day I'd love to give it a shot.
