Anyway, good luck with your new project!
Not sure if this information is useful for you but in my home country (Brazil) the XR3 was manufactured with totally different engines. First it came equipped with a Ford CHT engine (not CVH like in yours). The CHT engine was an old Gordini/Renault 4-cylinder with camshaft in the block and pushrods (OHV). Then in the late 80s Ford and VW formed a joint venture called Autolatina and Ford ditched its own engines and started equipping the XR3 with an overhead 8-valve, 1.8-liter, VW engine. It's quite bizarre to open the hood from Fords from that era and see "Audi/VW" markings all over it. Granted, the VW engine was so much better than the ancient Ford CHT. Also, another curiosity, back then just like all other cars manufactured in Brazil, the XR3 had two choices of engine: gasoline and ethanol. Because the ethanol engine had a higher compression ratio, it was noticeably more powerful. Have a look: th-cam.com/video/vBpI-W-IYdE/w-d-xo.html

Mate pls tell how much does it cost? I got a Mini Coupe R58 2012..and the coolant leaks. I reckon it needs a radiator replacement...any clue to cost? Thanks!
How much what costs? The radiator itself? I believe it was €70. New coolant mixture is maybe €20 I would say. You don’t need any special tools. Let me know if you have any other questions. Hope that helps! Please consider subscribing 🫶🏻
And labour cost for replacement? I'm from the UK but if you know the average that they usually charge.. that would be helpful!

Wouldn't it have been easier to remove the hub from the bearing while both still on the wheel carrier/knuckle, and then simply unbolt the bearing?
How would you have then removed the hub from the bearing, while still attached to the car?
@@TheHunterHofman using a hub puller and slide hammer. but ultimately either method requires a press to get a new bearing back on the hub, so with your method of removing the whole assembly first, you'd use a press to remove the bearing and to reinstall the bearing.
Looking at the condition of the driver's seat that'll have gone round once or twice. but I'm guessing the clock is at 34709km! I've seen it listed for sale, with a bit of negotiating the price should have been around 750. it's quite rough. The RS dealer kits aren't offered for sale that often, but are also not really sought after. The steering wheels are though, this one's probably worth about 120-150 if the leather is starting to crack. It's a 90hp KE-jetronic engine you've got there, the most mysterious and undocumented one of the bunch. Not all of the info on the 105hp K-jetronic is applicable, but getting a solid 5.5-6.0 bar of fuel pressure will be step 1.
@@lynxified thank you, very interesting comment. I was unaware there were multiple engines for this car. How did you recognize it was a KE-jetronic engine?
@@TheHunterHofman Well, Switzerland was a 'strict emissions' country according to Ford. The way to tell the difference is the lack of Warm Up Regulator on the little plate in the inlet manifold, and a blue module on the fuel distributor. There's also 2 ECU's on the upper bulkhead behind the fan housing. (one for fuel, one for spark) You'll find it's got a Cat and Lambda sensor as well. The 90hp engine is a lower compression ratio than the 105hp one too. It also uses a different exhaust manifold. Over-all there were 4 types of XR3i engines for the mk4 over the years, with the 102hp (/w cat) and 108hp (w/o cat) EFI engines being the other two types. All of them are CVH blocks though.
@@lynxifiedsuper helpful and interesting, thank you.

@@TheHunterHofman But was it on MAX after adding that 0.5L? Or at least at a correct level? I need to know how much oil gets lost during the oil cooler replacement.
@@krzysztofmanka5460 it’s only a small amount. I also accounted for the slightly larger volume of the new oil cooler.

Nice content man ! vraagje waar vind jij alle torque specs ?
He makker, dankjewel! Die vind ik op ISTA en/of AOS
Thanks ! Doe altijd alles zelf aan de bmw elke kennis is nuttig 💪🏽
Well, I gave this my best shot, but couldn't get the first hub bolt to crack loose. I initially tried an offset 11mm wrench as you did, but that eventually just slipped, slightly (only very slightly) rounding some of the bolt head (to point of the 11mm no longer fitting on the bolt). I removed the damper and was then able to create a fairly straight shot with an extension and proper torx socket, with my dewalt impact on the end -- but even set on high and with the socket well-seated, it wouldn't budge (tried some PB Blaster and a couple rounds of heat -- still no go). Getting the axle back through the hub was actually fairly easy with just an air chisel, so it seems a bit weird the hub bolts were so seized in light of that. I dunno. Guess I'm going to take to my shop and let them bail me out.
Hm, that sucks mate! Weird that it wouldn’t budge: have you tried a long breaker bar? I can’t imagine not getting them loose with that. I can imagine however not fitting one in there… how are things now? Send me a DM on Insta if you need any help. Thanks for your comment
Appreciate that! I didn't try a breaker, probably because I didn't feel I could achieve the required swing clearance. Even with the damper removed, the axle and camber arm really limits what you can fit/turn in that space. Maybe if I had let some penetrant sit overnight I would have had better luck next day. Car is drivable (issue is a couple broken studs within the hub), so I have an appt with my shop in a couple weeks. But I'm only having them do that side -- I'm determined to do the other in future on on my own dammit!
Quality video, really appreciate it🤙
Whenever I hear that coil-bind noise, I first expect the strut top bearings need replacing. (It's a big problem with the cheapest coilovers, because they don't have strut top bearings).
You don't actually have to replace "one time use" bolts.
Nightmares behind the dream
@TheHunterHofman Great video!! I have a question: Has anyone done this on a UK car where the milage is in miles not KM. I have done my oil change and was about to rewrite the history but realised the free program does the milage in km. if i convert the milage and upload what is likely to show up on the history? Thanks
Thanks mate! To be honest, I don’t know. It does clearly state milage in KM. Maybe try it out and see what happens and if you should convert (or not). Note to first save your own history as per the video. Hope that helps! Consider leaving a like and subscribe 🫶🏻
What is the hand brake service mode?
Hey mate, check out my video “making it better” from 6 months ago, then from 06:00, to see how to do this. Hope that helps
@@TheHunterHofman Ah, got it, thank you! Love your vids, entertaining and informative
Optimal wheel bearings are OE? Are you sure? FAG iz OE as far as I know. Do you have part number from Optimal bearings?
@TheHunterHofman I successfully updated the service history on my 418d but the mileages have all been changed and randomised. Have you come across this issue before?
Randomised? No haven’t seen that before to be honest. Maybe try again and remember to save all your history beforehand.
Hi, Thank you for sharing your experience! I have a 2022 G82 with 8,500 miles, and I’m facing the same issue. BMW installed friction disks, but the noise persists. Now they want to replace the wheel bearings, but I’m hesitant because they seem incompetent, and with my xDrive, it’s a trickier job. I’ve read that others had the noise return after replacing the bearings. Did it come back for you? Also, do you think the noise could affect performance, or is it more of a “cosmetic” issue? I want to avoid letting the dealer make things worse over a harmless noise. In your case, it seems like your bearings were fine and you just cleaned the housing, right? My car’s under warranty for 18 more months, and while the dealer’s ready to replace the bearings, I’m thinking of waiting to see if it gets worse before the warranty expires. Any recommendations? Thanks again! Alex
Hi Alex, Thanks for your comment. Interesting; is it exactly the same issue? Also when cornering at very low speeds? For me it didn’t come back. Have you seen the video of the guy with the G82 that made sounds while braking? It appeared that the brake pads were the issue I believe. Also take coil bind into account. Thanks for commenting and hope you follow along.
doing a m3 tomorrow morning and this video got me nervous as hell🤣🤣
Haha as long as you have all the right tools, and a good amount of patience, you’ll be fine mate! Just check out the links in the description for the right tools. Good luck and hope you follow along!
Why did you add all thw history into that software qhen it was already on the idrive? Dont you just need to ads on your oil change?
@@pickelrick6377 because it deletes everything when rewriting. So you have to fill out everything in order to have it all included in the service history
@@TheHunterHofman AHH ok I get you. Does this present any issues when you eventually take it to BMW. For example I want to do brake pads service myself. But I will still take it to BMW for main service.
@@pickelrick6377 I believe dealers register and save the official service history done by dealers; it won’t recognize the included service history as official service history because it’s not done the official way.
@@TheHunterHofman so do independent garages do it this way as well?
