Hi, that’s a very nice set you have there, at least this set has the roof fans unlike the original yellow/blue/grey intercity set that came out a few months ago, Hornby want big money for that set which according to specifications it has roof fans but in reality they are not fitted, I hope you get your fans working correctly, removal of the thick grease and applying the correct grease will make the quiet or very noisy like a set I have, the fan units are very cheap and underdeveloped and unavailable as a spare unfortunately. Apparently I read somewhere that Hornby have moved factory so this might be older stock, wishing you and your family a happy new year and thanks for sharing videos of the models you’ve collected.

The Hornby class 66 lump is a reasonable depiction of EWS 66001. Lima got early access to the loco and based everything on 001. Everything after 001 and 002 had the bigger bogies, larger horn grilles and the lamp iron moved to above the wipac lights. The cab interior - Lima got lazy and used the Class 60s cab interior!!!

Belated birthday wishes to you for last month, I’m not or ever will be a fan of Railroad products, Bachmann, Hatton’s and Accurascale are the only manufacturers who have done the class 66 any justice in this unique hobby, Hornby are just scraping the barrel with this model, for those modellers on a tight budget then fill your boots, personally your better off with an older early Bachmann model, I would like to see a Network rail yellow livery class 66 being released instead of the custom paint jobs I’ve seen that look very nice indeed, I hope Bachmann upgrade their great model at some stage but the cost of the model will be very high because that’s what Bachmann do now, thanks for sharing.

It looks like Hornby don't care about there image anymore, like not updating the instructions to a 21pin decoder, 2024 models with traction tyres to me they seem to be just want toy models rather than trying to make them realistic. Wonder if they'll bring the class 60 with a Lima tooling try to undercut the other manufactures prices

Others might not agree, but once you've seen accurascale, hatrons or even bachmanns 66s, you can never look at the hornby one again without thinking how cheap it looks. It's a budget model, yes, but id much rather pay 170 quid for an accurascale 66 than buy this now I've seen an accurascale 66. I've got this loco in gbrf livery, but I'm really hoping to get an accurascale version in Freightliner for christmas! Awesome video mate

Ive got to say, thats a truly lovely loco! I love the livery, and i think the weathering is amazing - those weathered nameplates are a nice touch, and the areas on the window where the wipers have wiped off the muck - great review mate :)

A very helpful video indeed and a fair summary. I got mine in March from Hornby in a sale for £240, but the power car had to go back twice - guess what the fan was not working (ok in the dummy car) and then when it was returned a NEM was broken, but on the third attempt things were ok, but one spring buffer was stuck, but at that stage I gave up, I did not want to post it back a 3rd time!

Are the yellow Wagons those lit Accurascale work vans? They went past too fast for my slow brain 😂

The ladders aren't secured on the bodyshell they are secured on the chasis to overcome the issue with them breaking on the hattons class 66 when taking off the bodyshell and replacing it and them breaking the cab detail plastic is very thin and weaker than the Hattons class 66 cab inserts they are so much better and stronger than the accurascale cab detail my 66763 was a bit jerky and very slow to take off at the slower speeds for about 30 seconds and it settled down after around 40 seconds and ran perfectly after around a 70 mins of running in period after the jerky start

DRS also run 66126

I've got a NSE second hand one in a train show for 40 pounds. It's obviously a bargain so I went for it, but when I tried to run it, it had a delayed start and momentum on DC and no lights unless wires were connected throughout the unit. Then I opened the mech to check it and it's DCC fitted and have DCC directional lighting in it😂.
