The Angry Camper
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 15 ธ.ค. 2016
My name is James and I am The Angry Camper. Welcome to this channel. I will be making videos about my Four Wheel Campers Project M as well as reviews of camping gear, offroading spots and trails and general outdoor stuff. Follow along as I learn how to make videos and edit them as well as get comfortable being in front of a camera ha ha ha. I may cuss here and there as well as complain and whine about things that get under my skin but in the end, I am just here to share what I have learned and been through with you. Stick around and like and subscribe if you feel like it. Thanks for tuning in, I sincerely appreciate your time.

I was the idiot in this video, always check the water depth before going FULL SEND into it!! A shakedown run goes horribly wrong for my Red XJ, will it run and drive home?

Will A Windshield Chip Repair Really Work?

I recently had a rock on the freeway put a pretty nice chip/crack in my window, so I decided to have it filled rather than wait for it to spread and see if windshield repair is legit or a scam. Here are my results!! #chiprepair #windshieldrepair #willitwork #brokenwindshield

Truck bed Tragedy

I am literally beside myself with the weak bed on the 2020 Tundra, apparently the weight of the FWC Project M was too much for it to handle on the trails that I was taking. You can literally say that I am definitely not a HAPPY CAMPER. For context, here are a few of the trails I was going down with my good friends 4WD Adventure crew!! www.youtube.com/@4WDAdventureCrew th-cam.com/video/3UzZon01V...

Four Wheel Camper "Project M" Could it be Better??
So why didn't you tell this the them when you pickup.
It's been a lot of years since we last went out to Frank Raynes. We used to go out there to ride dirt bikes. Lot's of hill climbs!
We used to go out to Hollister Hills SRVA a lot. They have a section for dirt bikes/quads only (3000 acres) and a separate section for 4X4's/side by sides (2000/2500 acres).
That’s the one thing that stopped me buying were those pieces sticking out! 4 wheel get rid of those already!
Yes, yes yes!!! They are so dumb lol
Great video James. That water got deep quick. Glad you were able to get the XJ home.
It looked about a foot deep ha ha ha, but lessons were learned and it did hobble home!!
Those benches/rails were why I didn’t choose the M1. I liked the width of it versus most of the ones on the market, except the brand I chose, which comes with a ton of T track everywhere. This is a great video for anyone trying to decide which way to go. Thanks for your honesty
Thanks for the video. I would take it back and tell them to fix it
I actually sold it recently.
Im on my 3rd Tundra. Ive never had problems with my wind shield chipping. My current 2020 Tundra windshield seems weak. In the past 8 months I've had to fix 2 chips.
Did the repairs come out good?
There are a lot of “no big deals” in the review
Definitely a lot. and hopefully some of them will help you make your decision on what camper to buy.
Great review. Gives me second thoughts due to workmanship.
Well, definitely staying away! not to mention their lead time! Tune M1 camper for the win!
I liked the AT overland Atlas. But that was a 12 month lead time when I was looking.
Ok, the fit and finish is a problem for me. Until now I was really liking this topper. Those issues would drive me crazy. I wonder if they are all like that?
From what I have heard, it is hit or miss.
@@theangrycamper curious, what dealer did you pick up from?
@@Mo-gm5zm Directly from FWC at their Woodland Ca. location
I want those boards that stick out gone! Inside the camper where it’s connected to bed walls. If they got rid of those that are used as seats. They take up a ton of room. It’s why I haven’t purchased the camper top.
Seriously!!! According to the designers, that is where the camper gets its rigidity, I call bullshit though, but who am I right? ha ha ha
great build and concept!👍
Thank you very much!!
Can you make a video on how you take out your cabinets when you make it a work truck. Thanks
Don't buy a goddamn Ford. Buy a Dodge. Buy a real pickup
No thanks, no ford's or dodge for me. Too many issues with those trucks to list, even considering this issue, reliability and overall quality wins with the tundra.
i am sure it would happen to all the trucks looks like bottle jack and welder is all you need to fix it good luck
Nice trip, a local favorite of mine!
Definitely want to do that one again this spring, Crater lake was just crazy pretty!!
Good idea 👍 I think we should get back to the way it was when I was young in Iowa with 14 year old drivers permits. Farmers needed help with driving/chores and family is who the help was. I think that helped bring the maturity level up in kids. I know that is not what this video was probably about but I think it is an unintended side benefit?
I agree, better behind the wheel than a screen ;)
And that's why you don't run K02 on rocks
Looks very strong. Do you think this will flex as necessary with the bed and frame?
I really have no clue but at least it isn't sagging anymore
It’s is a big deal! Poor workmanship.
There is a lot of cool places that you can get your Big Blundra into. (First Gen owner). Downieville, north of Sacto on the Yuba river. Poker Flats. Gold Lake, Plumas National forest, Lakes basin. North of Tahoe.
The Spring and Fall months, before school gets out and after it starts up again, seem to be the best times for me. Crater lake looks like a great spot to do a little gold panning!
Great video bro. I'm looking forward to more of these since since you're so far away from me! Privyet Katie!!
There are a lot more coming :)
Great review, all in all it seems good. But all the little things add up.
They really do, and for the money they want for one, I would expect more quality from them.
The epoxy repairs are great...as you said you have to do them when the chip is small! Good stuff!
I am so glad you and Steve are back!!!
Did your harness come with a relay?? Mine didnt
Let me take a look, I have an auxbeam 6 gang switch that I used to connect mine so I wasn't needing a relay.
Yep, mine came with a relay, wires and the switch. weird that yours didn't, email Rough Country and see what they say.
@@theangrycamper I ordered a set of 2" pods from them and a 20" and the harness didn't come with relays either ugh
@@alpha2047 Dammit, email them.
@@theangrycamper tried one more call and got a human second ring, he told me that they don't require a relay...
Thanks for the honest review. The things you point out, would also bug me. So spot on sir. Much respect. Enjoy.
Thanks for that, it means a lot!!
I’m about to order these. Do you have more videos driving at night?
I do not but, My buddies all have the Auxbeam 42" bars on their jeeps and this is right up there even being mounted in the bumper. Of course one on your roof would always be better but as it shows in this video, the size and the price make it a great choice.
Hey awesome build out! I was curious what things do you leave in your truck bed when not camping? Also do you have any videos of going from truck mode to camper mode (how you put in your cabinets and secure everything prep for camping etc?) Curious how much work is involved... debating on project m vs slide in...
Thanks, I did shoot a video showing how I did it but it was pretty lame so I deleted it :(
@@theangrycamper haha gotchya! Well next camping trip you have planned would love to see how you prep it and get those awesome cabinets in! The water, power so cool. I'm leaning towards project m so I won't have to have the hassle of taking a slide in off and on and storing it...
Yeah my palomino soft camper and hard camper did that same thing with the roof and everything pouring off of the doors and the window and gums it up and makes it look like garbage
Was it pretty easy to add the RC light bar to the chassis unlimited bumper , just ordered both for my 05 cat eye don’t know what to expect 😬
It was very easy to add the light bar!! The bumper install was a bit tough though, especially since I did mine alone lol
@@theangrycamper appreciate the reply!! Your truck looking amazing by the way, last question, do you think I should wait until my light bar arrives to instal the bumper , or is the light bar still able to be installed without the removal of the bumper thank you !
@@tonyhuerta798 without question wait for the light to get here, It is a tight fit and it needs to go in before the winch.
These are not gripes, you are pointing out design flaws that hopefully four wheel campers will address. This is how you create a better product.
I hope they actually do get the message :)
It would be so cool if you could find like a cabinet maker to make those mods to your specifications 😂😂😂
Wait until you see the buildout I am doing For one of the XJ's in our adventure crew, I am really beginning to love offroad cabinet building :)
😂
I am sorry that you had trouble with your 2020. I got a 2016 crewmax and I grabbed my crawler and slid under to check mine and they must have fixed it in the 6 years between our years, mine is a T.R.D. Offroad 4x4 with the 5.7 V-8 ( i could not tell if yours is ? ) . In hindsight, my camper is all aluminum and weights 380lbs. So that could be a major factor. The Tundra recall affects the model years 2000-2003, Toyota Tundra had a rust problem. EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF THE REAR CROSS MEMBER MAY CAUSE THE SEPARATION OF THE SPARE TIRE STOWED UNDER THE TRUCK BED WHICH WOULD PRESENT A ROAD HAZARD THAT COULD CAUSE A CRASH. ALSO, CORROSION OF THE REAR CROSS MEMBER COULD AFFECT THE REAR BRAKE LINES AND THE PROPORTIONING VALVE RESULTING IN DIMINISHED BRAKING CAPABILITY.
Your complaints are not grips, they are serious design flaws and poor workmanship.
Good job!
Thanks, she loves it!!
Just more "RV" crap!!
TLDR: camper is a shit, but it's "not a big deal"
what is TLDR?
🙏 P r o m o S M
What does that mean?
Great job! Wonderfull arangments, simple and wery funcional. I catch some ideas from you! Thank you for the fantastic tour! Wish you and your doughter nice camp adventures 👌👏👏👏👏
Thank you!!!
James, super helpful and detailed review, thanks! I am in the process of designing (and soon to be building) my own custom pop up camper, and knowing some of the gripes and concerns with the Project M, which costs close to $9,000 more than my projected build price, is really helpful. I’ll be sure to avoid making these same design compromises! Appreciate the time you put into this video, liked and subscribed!
Glad this helped you!!
Appreciate this honest review. I’ve been thinking about a Project M for a while. I think they are overpriced toppers and for the money, they should at least pay attention to the minor details you pointed out.
Nice, simple fix! You should hit that bare metal with some good rust protectant spray paint!
Thanks for the heads up. I think the success of the 4Wheeler brand and growing demand for overland campers is the cause of the quality control issues. ..
Great video. What’s a comparable alternative that’s similar or less in price?
AT OVRLND atlas is similar so is topo toppers
Best looking build i have seen
Thank you, that really means a lot!!
First time driving? Heck of a trail to drive down.
She had done it before in my lap several times but this was her first with me on the passenger side :)
Just put a Tune M1 on my New Tacoma. Its best to put bed stiffeners in behind the tailgate because the bed is composite not sheet meteland without stiffeners there can be too much flexing.
