This year ice in South-West Poland was thick enough to try ice skating on a wild pond. As always I came to the place with my Vitara and this time I had partner to check ice and do ice skating. On ice better not to be alone. I am also showing my method of checking ice (learned from professionals). Don't do this by yourself. Ice can be deadly dangerous.

      I agree with you. In most time I prefer to be practical than looking for trouble. But here I wanted to check capabilities and learn. Not long ago I heard, that You can only learn off road by making mistakes and checking. And that is so true in my view. And besides it was much more fun ;)

    I own too a vitara 1.4 AWD since 2019, same color as yours. Do you want my personal review? The metal used in door panels is extremely flimsy, just like paperboard. The clearcoat quality is also very average quality. As for the interior, I wouldn't say it's so bad as some reviewers write. And the infotainment is average, but the rear view camera is extremely useful. I would say that the competition offers better quality vehicles. BUT I have to admit that you cannot find AWD models in that price tag. Also the engine is very strong and responsive. The equipment is at very high levels. Taking everything into account, I don't regret at all buying this car!!

      Thanks for this very detailed review. I found that swirls on piano black parts can be easily removed with a cream for cleaning front light glasses: just passing the cream with cotton the black surface returns almost as new. On off-road my most common problem is the need to realign the radar, even without it being hit. The torsion of the chassis on rocky ground is enough to loose the correct alignment. Finally I bough some dark gray paint for recovering some scratch: it turned out that the same paint is also good for recovering scratches on the painted wheel. My Vitara has 96k km, and it is almost 6 years old. I change the orange bulb with silver ones (for aesthetics purpose only). I look forward to seeing your next video!

      Hi. I needed to calibrate radar after some bumper hit, as well. But not much rocks, in my case. Concluding, sems location of this radar is not so good. In fact my car is couple yeras older than 3 years, almost six now and also almost 100k, I waited with pubilishing this material some time. But in general conclusions are not changed. That is why I decided to publish it anyway. I will record another one post six years mark. Good hint about Piano black.Thanks.

    Good test. I just got stuck in snow with mud underneath, on a mountain. Shoveling and traction boards got me out, but it wasn't fun. And now we've got a lot more snow still, so that's the end of off-roading for now. The AllGrip is not suited for plowing through deep snow, nor any kind of snow on steeper slopes (those are the only limitations of the Suzuki AWD system in my experience).

    • @OutdoorAdventure0
      @OutdoorAdventure0 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh really? I had impression that with Winter tires, he is very capable in snow. You had bad luck with this mud under snow. But normally in winter ground is frozen. Due to frozen ground, I perceive winter as easy driving - mostly without mud. 4WD is working quite well in light snow. Even in my first video on the channel I have done quite extensive test. And it went very good. What kind of problems do you have? Maybe it is problem with the tire?

    • @ZookOffRoad-l3k
      @ZookOffRoad-l3k 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@OutdoorAdventure0 Getting stuck was definitely because of the mud underneath. But what I meant by the AWD issue with snow is that it turns itself off (due to "high heat") in deep snow (fresh snow 20cm or so, where there are no tracks) on even very slight slopes and also in fresh snow with no tracks (10cm and more) on steep slopes. I've tested it last winter with great winter tires; now I still have my AT tires (M+S) on and it's the same. So, here in the mountains where we are now getting new snow every other day, it's no good for off-roading. It goes ok for a few meters but on longer hills with fresh and reasonably deep snow (where no one has driven before) AWD turns off. If I switch the engine off and restart immediately, AWD is back on...but that doesn't really help because I'd have to do that a hundred times on a trail. It does it to prevent overheating, and for some reason only in fresh (deeper) snow... it never did it when climbing extremely steep hills, climbing on rocks, or anything else.... it just doesn't like fresh snow on hills. It is what it is... (If there are already tracks in the snow then it's fine, but no one really drives on these trails in snow, so in the vast majority of cases I'd have to drive in fresh snow.)

    • @OutdoorAdventure0
      @OutdoorAdventure0 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ZookOffRoad-l3k Hmm, ok interesting. I havent tried a lot in fresh snow. This is very strange behavior. But maybe if too much spinning it will protect 4wd clutch... as you said. But sounds bad. Shi..ty behavior.

    • @ZookOffRoad-l3k
      @ZookOffRoad-l3k 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@OutdoorAdventure0 There wasn't much spinning at all. It dislikes the resistance from deep snow (when driving uphill). In situations with a lot of wheel spin (like in mud on hills, or icy snow, etc) the AWD never turns off. I think it should have a higher threshold for temperature, because it clearly isn't overheated (when I switch the engine off and restart immediately, AWD is back on...which would not happen if it was overheated) - it's just a too conservative way they set it up to prevent a possible overheat. This car is great in all kinds of terrain (even where you'd think you might need 4L) except in deeper (fresh) snow (on a slope and where there are no tracks)... there its near useless.

      @OutdoorAdventure0 one of the best tyres around on wet roads, better than the Bridgestones, coopers or bfgs I've had in the past by miles. I've used the geolander on snowy roads ( has 3 peak certification), gravel roads, wet roads, dry roads, grass, light to moderate 4wd tracks and muddy puddles and worked far better than expected. Also no noise and don't affect fuel economy. Plus I got 95000 kms on my first set. I'm driving the 4th generation jimny at the moment but have thought about a Vitara AWD for the future. Had a hybrid turbo as a courtesy car yesterday and went well though I felt the seats were a bit uncomfortable for me. Not sure I like the low profile tyre height and lack of ground clearance though

    Have you found a way to install rated recovery points on this car? I don't think the tow points would support the kind of force needed in a recovery from deep mud, deep snow, a ditch, etc (I'm pretty sure they'd be ripped out and take parts of the chassis with them). Any ideas? All I have are traction boards (which are useful as a bridge too; luckily I haven't got stuck in mud yet!), and of course tow straps and snatch strap, etc... but if I do get stuck and can't get out on my own, the problem will be where to attach them.

    • @joergarms1
      @joergarms1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      At the front there are 2 recovery points. I do have a towbar, so in case I got stuck, I can use that at the rear.

    • @OutdoorAdventure0
      @OutdoorAdventure0 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In front in fact you have one point where you can screw the hook, but other one where is it? Also in the manual they do not recommend to use this one in front for "dynamic" pulling. In the back I use "hooks" used for "from factory transport". They are not good for dynamic pooling, but for static pooling like with winch they probably will survive (like in video). Tow bar probably would be best choice.

    • @ZookOffRoad-l3k
      @ZookOffRoad-l3k 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@OutdoorAdventure0 Yeah, the problem is neither the front (screw in) hook nor the rear tie down points are meant for recovery, they aren't gonna survive such force.

    • @ZookOffRoad-l3k
      @ZookOffRoad-l3k 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@joergarms1 Those are not recovery points, just tie down points for transport and a tow point (for on road towing). Neither of those will support anywhere near the force generated in an off-road recovery. Tow bar isn't very safe for recovery either but will likely be ok if one is careful. I don't do any towing but need to figure out how and where one could install proper recovery points. There is no way to mount a winch on this car; neither a winch nor rated recovery points is a recipe for disaster, sooner or later.

    • @OutdoorAdventure0

    I happen to drive on sand, living close to the seaside. The sand is more stable where it has already been pressed and not on the side. So I think you experienced a problem due to the choice of trajectory. Under this situation, I generally drive with 4x4 lock mode and with control traction disabled.

    • @OutdoorAdventure0
      @OutdoorAdventure0 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree, this time I over complicated driving by side of the road. This was kind of lesson/experiment learned in more-less safe environment for me. ;) But it was even not a matter of more lose ground on the side of the road, left front wheel did not loose traction at all. So the choice of the side of the road was not bad in this case. But that whole power and weight went to the front right wheel due to the position(tilt) of the car. That is why it started to dig in. Too less traction on right front, to move the whole car weight.

I would drive much braver if I would be with second Vitara in my trip. :) I hate calling for rescue and sometimes in the middle of nowhere it is not easy to get it. To be really strong in off road, clearance probably should be 10 cm more. ;) 95% of cases you can cross most of the roads just by driving clever, without this additional clearance.
