Selecting valves for pumping aircrete
มุมมอง 5623 ปีที่แล้ว
Valves are relatively unimportant in aircrete - unless you are going to pump it. This is yet another attempt to avoid the big aircrete pumping video project, a massive juggernaut that probably will have very little value to the average aircrete enthusiast. This one explores plastic vs stainless valves, oddly neither of which are used in the final pump. However, it might be of use to people who ...
The secret life of foam
มุมมอง 1.2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Why does your foam stray? Maybe it can't help itself. Foam is a product of parameters beyond its control....And yours. You can only hope to bound it within certain constraints, because it is an exacting science performed with inexact tools. And yet, we prevail. Against all odds, the center holds.
Dialing in your foam injector
มุมมอง 5373 ปีที่แล้ว
This is one in a series of quick videos on small aspects of aircrete. Its purpose is to delay the inevitable giant cluster of a video that will be about pumping. It would take a minimum of half an hour to tell of all the discoveries made in that area in the last month, and I am not eager to sort it all out.
Aircrete failure modes
มุมมอง 2.1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Why did my aircrete fail? hopefully this will provide some answers. generally, the answer is a bad mix, which can be a mix of foaming agent and water, foam mix to air, cement and water, or foam and cement slurry. Bad foam mix can be either bad foaming agent/water ratio, or air to foam mix. The size of the bubbles is important here, with smaller bubbles being preferred. Note that contaminated fo...
Is Drexel more toxic than 7th generation?
มุมมอง 6243 ปีที่แล้ว
People have said they believe fm-160 is more toxic than 7th generation dish soap. Spoiler alert: It's not. According to the MSDS for both, fm-160 is not just less toxic, but also more eco friendly. First off, though, let's be real. Although you should not drink either of them, neither is exactly a threat. Both cause eye irritation, and MAY cause skin irritation, but neither one is a tenth as da...
Deepcrete: How deep can you pour aircrete?
มุมมอง 2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This pour was using domegaia basic mix (about 20 lp/cf) but with Drexel 160 instead of dish soap. This data therefore, may not work for pours that are based on dish soap. I am not against dish soap aircrete, I have used 7th gen and other dish soaps in the past, but they are actually more expensive than 160, and provide variable results. Drexel foam is consistent and long lasting, which should b...

What the (Bleep) do we know about Aircrete?
มุมมอง 1.4K3 ปีที่แล้ว
There is currently more bad information about aircrete than there is accurate information. Let's see why that is, and see if there is anything we can do about it. Spoiler alert: the reasons are as follows: 1: There are a lot of different aircretes, and most of them are not what we are calling aircrete. Therefore, much of what you hear about aircrete is not relevant to what we are using. 2: Peop...

how to pump aircrete the cheap way
มุมมอง 7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This pump is the Jabsco "amazon universal". It is a basic manual bilge pump. There are much better and more expensive pumps out there, if you are into that sort of thing. A nice big bronze pump such as an Edson for example, can pump 4 cubic feet per minute by hand. That means you could pump your entire barrel in less than 2 minutes. Of course, They cost about 12x as much as this simple plastic ...

How to hardface aircrete
มุมมอง 27K4 ปีที่แล้ว
How to make aircrete blocks with a hard, textured face suitable for outdoor use. Have you made things out of aircrete and wished that you could add a stone texture, or maybe bamboo, or river rocks? Well, you can't. Aircrete is not really good at taking fine detail, and even if it was, it is too soft to hold up to the elements. You would have to coat it with something durable, thus losing the de...
Aircrete forms done right
มุมมอง 26K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Not just cheaper and easier than wood forms, but better. Find out how to make forms that require no additional hardware, paint, clamps, or supplies. Just put them together. Won't rot, shrink, swell, etc. Just keep working on and on. Don't even need any oil, the forms just peel off easily. No banging with a hammer or trying to force a pin out of a hinge. Cleanup is minimal, and mostly optional. ...
some years have passed since your video... has any of your questions found any answer? I am starting with aircrete myself and developing a personal wiki (in spanish) about the process... maybe something to share in the future... curious if this process should happen in a collective space.
First off, thanks for sharing the concept for how to build these aircrete forms. Not sure if you are still working with aircrete, but I would like to see more video about designing the forms. Mahalo!
Looking for this PVC sheeting in 2024. Home Depot & Lowes do not sell this any longer. Menard's might, but they are a long way from where we live. Found that US Plastics sells it for $544 per 4'x8'x1/2" sheet. Then there is shipping on top of that, as well as the possibility of the sheets being damaged in transit. Was looking forward to trying this method out but guess I'll have to figure something else out.
What is this material called?
Woa! Thanks! One more piece of the puzzle.
Why is there an image of an auger pump for the video but you're using a manual squirt pump?
Great video! Nice print shirt also.
I would think the friction in the corrugated pool hose would be detrimental to the bubble structure. Maybe just a straight wall flexible hose
hope you're well. I'd love to see more aircrete content from you!
Great idea. I wonder if making a mould around a sheet of cement board and pouring the aircrete directly into it would create a kind of diy sandwich panel
Or just use FORMPLY which is also reusable.
Awrsome! Thank you.
Do you think it would be possible to make these kind of molds in triangular or hexagonal shape so you can make a geodesic dome?
Do you have a cutting diagram of how to lay out the sheet measurements
😁 good Idea.
Manual pump? I am looking at building an entire house... The best I have seen so far is using the same type of hose but pushing crete out using air pressure. That is mighty cheap if you already have a compressor, which you would have if you were gonna build, say, a house.
Genius
Thank you! When the student is ready, the teacher appears. We are in a situation where we need to finish the remodel of a room and want to use styrocrete instead of insulation but roof on so can't pour from top. Decided wall panels but frames were hard to figure out on our budget.
You won't find it because it doesn't exist(of course I can't prove it but its probability of existence is less than that of bigfoot). People lie, people make up stories, people exaggerate, and people write books. There are a lot of reasons why this is done such as to gain power, $$$, control or to fill some psychological need. We know for a fact that the story of Jesus is almost identical in every respect to previous myths and the reason is simple... humans love to rehypothecate(just look at the finance system). My likely guess is that all our religions came from that of sun worship as it was a necessity(the sun is the provider and back before the explosion of tech if you weren't worshiping the sun you were dead(hence natural selection)). The knowledge derived from survival were encoded in to stories to pass down from father to son(and mother but as we know women were generally treated pretty harshly and it was the mans job because it was a "mans world"). These stories were suppose to teach children the truth about how to survive(it was totally different than our experiences and so we cannot comprehend how important it was to know how the sun worked relative to crops... and while it was "common sense", it was only because those that didn't have it died or suffered greatly(imagine all the diseases due to malnutrition)). Over time as we evolved and become more intelligent and dominated the agricultural aspects from the knowledge we learned about the sun and plants due to father passing his knowledge down to his child these stories became more embellished. Specially when different groups interacted with their own stories and beliefs(no doubt many scarified to the sun god and developed religion). As societies grew there were individuals who learned they could manipulate others using lies. These became our bankers, politicians, and priests. Not all equally evil, some just misguided, but it was till highly profitable. In any case, I think there is a much more logical case for religion as we know it. People hold on to it because of their ignorance and reluctance. I think in prehistoric times it served its purpose but has grown so unwieldy now that humanity has taken a blow. Religion was antagonistic towards science(of course the reasons are obvious but again $$$ and power always plays central roles to the problems) and that turned a lot of people off of it causing more problems(if it's either all or nothing and clearly science has some value then some people are going to get rid of religion). Most people have no idea how to survive on their own. They've lost all knowledge of the natural way of things, this is not their fault but both religion and science has created this mess. There is suppose to be a balance but because of people ignorance and arrogance we are where we as a species. Both science and religion has become so muddled down by the lairs that if humanity doesn't figure out what it really should value(which is life, each other, etc) then what humanity has accomplished will collapse. "Religion" and science should have evolved together in a balanced way clearly there is something more going on than what science understands(else there would be no need for science) but clearly also religion is very flawed(most religious people are quite clueless about their own beliefs). I hope one day that humanity can learn to find a balance where before we go chasing arks and black holes we first figure out how to provide a proper foundation for all humans to thrive.
Gr8 idea
Well said. Most people would rather talk than look at the science. I'm trying to find a good foaming agent in Canada since it seems nobody uses foam markers anymore (I farm and can't even find FM-160 or similar products at my suppliers, it's ridiculous), it looks like the best I can do is find something with a large percentage of SLS. Thanks for posting your experiments and knowledge!
Home Depot doesn't seem to carry this PVC board, at least not in my area. Do you know of any other suppliers?

I love this idea! I’m thinking wind load when I pose this idea.. I will be in a hurricane zone so I want really thick walls. Plus I love the esthetic of super thick walls. I am picturing the facing about 3 inches thick then rebar reinforced middle 10 inches thick and then 3 inches on the top side of the mold. Perhaps some house wrap thrown in there. So 16” wall. I like anything over engineered and the security of that nice thick wall. It still may not be thick enough for a significant enough wind load for hurricane zones. I can’t do those calculations. This was sheer genius BTW. I really appreciate the time you took with this. Also I wouldn’t really go for the texture. No texture will have the wind skidding right over it.
How about SMART CRETE… and I agree that we need to go beyond anectodotic and empirical to honor a name like SmartCrete… but it is worth it.
Awesome thanks
I know
Cool!
Yes, it's really hard to find good information on aircrete. I appreciate your videos! A lot of aircrete testing is done in a very unscientific way, and people base their beliefs about aircrete on them.
Will this material only work for aircrete? would regular concrete be too heavy?
NEANDERTHAL or those who have the curse of Cain on their face; see Kosher.
Within the King James Bible it says that the rain was upon the earth and the waters increased greatly upon the earth and all flesh died that moved upon the earth. Lets take a peek back to Genesis 4:14, when Yahweh has driven Cain away in punishment for his murder of Abel, the King James Bible quotes Cain as saying, “Behold, Thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth.” Cain was not driven from the face of the earth, only the translators said that Cain was driven from the face of the earth. This is getting exciting, lets now visit Genesis 7, where it says the flood covered the earth, the Hebrew word used in the original writing by Moses was eh-rats, meaning the land. The flood covered a specific region of land; wonder who lived there? Notice that it specifies, “ Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.” The sacred cubit of 25 inches, therefore, the waters rose above the tops of the mountains by 31 feet 3 inches accordingly. Now, you have the waters covering Mount Everest, which is nearly "six miles high". That means, all the earth would be covered by water six miles deep; where did the water run off to when the flood subsided? Again, you relied on translators (English) who took the Hebrew word eh-rets, which means “that land” and mistranslated it to mean the "whole world". Now, in your Judaeo Christian world the whole earth was made desolation, however history did not cease to exist for the Babylonians, Egyptians or Chinese. The Bible gives the date of the flood as commencing in 2345 B.C. and ending in 2344 B.C. "Noah and his family journeyed after the flood, the city of Ur of the Chaldees which was the leading city from about 2400 B.C. until about 2285 B.C. Its history is not broken by any flood in this period. Farther to the north, Babylon was rising to power from about 2400 B.C. on and reached a great height of civilization under the famous King Hammurabi, who lived at the same time as the Hebrew patriarch Abraham, about 2250 B.C.. There is no break in this history due to a flood. In Egypt, the eleventh dynasty began to reign about 2375 B.C. over a great and powerful nation. The eleventh dynasty ruled to about 2212 B.C., and was followed by the twelfth dynasty, which ruled to about 2000 B.C.. There was no break in the eleventh dynasty at the time of Noah’s flood, 2345 B.C.. The nation continued to be large and powerful throughout this period.
In Genesis 2 we read, where Yahweh God created every domesticated animal and brought them before Adam (blood to blush red in the face) to name them; but for Adam there was not found a mate. So Yahweh God caused Adam to sleep and from Adam and made for him a mate. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” This is still the fifth day of creation where Yahweh God had already created the livestock, however there was no mate found for Adam. Imagine that, there is only Adam and the animals and none were fit for Adam. Yahweh God knew this and HE did create a mate for Adam from the FLESH of Adam. "Kind after Kind." Matthew 24:38, For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the Ark... NOT=> "Kind after Kind." Matthew 15:13, "Every plant that my heavenly Father did not plant will be pulled up."

Emotionally Erect Crete?
Interesting! We have had success with a 2 foot pour into a wall form. We have a sample we are about to unbox that is 45 inches deep. It seemed to hold up well, but we'll know more when we get the form off.
Brilliant! ✊🏼
You doing ok?
While this is a great video, I would recommend the channel Happy H. to have a solidworks cnc roughter tool path rendered up and sell it for a few bucks to us viewers. Local cnc companies charge $80-100 an hour in USA and they are in a abundance in most cities. If diy builders make one of these forms and screw up the daydo cut, it can be costly at $130-$350 a sheet. $350 may sound expensive but its pennies for the value if your casting and building, (don't get to greedy right)! Oh and I can do the renderings for you if needed boss. Peace
what other channels are U on? I'm like to follow them also.
Very helpful! This is what our problem was, we would get the density right at the beginning, but it wasn't staying the same. He has to watch and adjust the air pressure as we add and mix the foam. Thanks!
In my humble opinion, unless a formulation can be standardized For stability and consistency The process is just as labor intensive As any conventional method of construction. Bringing the process down to the molecular level and with chemical analysis may be a way to obtain consistency under various atmospheric conditions as oxygen Reacts based on density of location. Stabilize the oxygen molecule perhaps with some glycerin and some partial Success can be achieved. Thank you for your insightful observations really enjoy your vids. Keep up the good work! Perhaps it will save smucks such as my self from committing many hours Of failed experiments. But wait I was once told it’s not the destination but rather the journey.! Have fun.!
This was helpful, thanks! We mixed our first 4 batches yesterday and thought they were mostly flops, but we unformed them today, and they looked much better than we expected. Two were somewhat successful, and the other 2 weren't horrible! Batch #6 from today was finally a success!! We used a different barrel, different mixer, and we checked the air pressure more often. Thanks for sharing your videos, & would love to see more if you get a chance! 👍😊
So many good points raised here. As for a name for the stuff, the best I can come up with for a category name is "foamcrete", because most recipes are foam-based and it distinguishes what we're making in our backyards from actual engineered/manufactured aircrete products.
That's a brilliant test. I'm a bit shocked it can be poured that deep. Keep the aircrete content coming. It's fascinating stuff! Also, you should check out the aircrete pump that Aircrete Harry came up with a few weeks ago. It consists of just a 50 gallon drum and a portable air compressor. It was pumping aircrete at 20 gallons a minute 10' high in the air. Dead simple to make, and pretty damn effective at just 10psi. He's pouring whole 20' domes this way.
Great content! I'm amazed at how few aircrete testing/evaluation videos there are. It's a fascinating material, but if you don't know the engineering parameters of a given mix, how the heck does anyone expect to build a safe & durable structure out of it? I'm exasperated by the "pour & pray" approach of most TH-cam aircrete "experts". I'm really looking forward to more content on this topic. Subscribed. :)
👍🙂
Interesting! We are getting ready to mix our first batch tomorrow. 🙂🏠
1-Have you made a structure using those blocks? 2-Did the structure use a normal mortar or an aircrete mortar?
Great idea! Does the oil effect the bonding of one brick to another?
Handycrete. It’s mixed by hand, and not at industrial scale.
I doubt you would find similar results if your pipe were 12 inches wide, or 10 FEET wide.
I have vague memories of my required fluid dynamics class in Engineering School. We learned that pressure at any depth is a function of the weight of the column of fluid above it. The width doesn't really matter (for the most part it can be ignored.) Of course, that was probably assuming zero viscosity - so concrete might have some small additional load applied. But it would still probably be negligible relative to the weight of the column.
