In this video I was using AMD, but not I have an Nvidia card and have not tested since 2022. Unfortunately as of now on Nvidia the game has a major Vram issue, I would recommend testing yourself on the latest Standard, Experimental or Glorious Eggrole release of Proton and maybe turn vram intensive settings down. You can find more info on the Proton DB page.

@@n0viewers409 yeah im trying to figure out whats going on. i see people on youtube play the game with no stutters. but here for me with Nvidia 2080ti on Arch the Vram instantly goes to 11gb as soon as the level loads and it stutters really badly unless I put the grpahics down to atleast High , then its somewhat fine, with occasional stutters still. Im wondering what exactly changed in the past 1-2 years to make it so bad? Or it was always like this for nvidia? Odd indeed

If you have cutscene/FMV/etc. issues with a game, you probably need Proton-GE (or Wine-GE, for Lutris/etc., I generally prefer to avoid Steam where possible). AFAIK, Valve-official Proton versions do not include some standard open-source video decompressor software that might get them as a corporation into patent trouble, while community Wine versions generally do. Glorious Eggroll's custom builds combine both Valve's Proton gaming enhancements and community Wine builds' video support together with the latest versions of Wine from Wine-Staging and specific fixes for popular games, and come in versions for either the 'vanilla' Wine (Lutris, etc.) or Proton (Steam) ecosystems. It's a great service to the community! I'm quite excited for Mint 22 -- that's what I'm going to install on my beautiful brand new gaming desktop... once my processor _finally_ arrives. Having more frequent kernel updates is going to be nice. I wish I'd known my processor would (on the day it was due to arrive) be delayed, lost in transit, surprise-refunded, reordered, and shipped internationally to the tune of two extra weeks BEFORE I disassembled the venerable old machine to put together the new one with the same (recently replaced) PSU and the old hard drive installed as a secondary, though... I have so many cool new toys almost completely assembled but can't do anything more with it until the CPU arrives. Managed to skip an entire 'generation' of technology, AM3+ to AM5, DDR3 to DDR5, magnetic HDD to fast NVME storage, etc. Hopefully this machine ALSO lasts me 10+ years. I'm so glad I switched to Mint after Win7! From Internet chatter and the Windows users in my household, it seems like Microsoft has just... continued making things worse? I more expected Win8 to be a low point they'd eventually recover their credibility from, but I guess that was too optimistic. Glad I don't have to deal with that mess any more.

Linux gaming has been great for a few years by now, already. Only thing holding it back atm is anticheat, and that isn't because linux isn't compatible, it absolutely is, but because the devs of said games simply haven't flicked the linux compatibility switch... It's the dev's fault, lol... All they have to do is flick a switch to ALLOW linux to work with the anticheat for the game in question, the groundwork is already done. So yeah, linux gaming has been all the way there for a while now. :) I'm swapping to Linux for my next OS, this win11 is gonna be my last windows machine, lol... I've done an absurd amount of distro hopping. I'm currently on openSUSE Tumbleweed which is the best I've tried so far. It's a really solid, reliable, rolling distro & it's very user friendly. The problem with Linux is the community focuses way too much on the terminal. You really don't need the terminal that much if you're an average user. If you get a Linux game from GOG they give you an sh file & it runs an installer just like how you would install a game with an exe on Windows. We should do that with other Linux software. That would bring in a lot more penguins. A PC should be so easy a baby could use it. Even Linus Torvalds agrees that Linux needs to be user friendly. The neckbeards in the Arch community don't want to admit that they're going against Linus' philosophy. The Debian community is just as bad. Even though every other distro in the Debian/Ubuntu family is super easy Debian itself is a mega time waster that gives me laryngitis. I switched to ape mode trying to get that damn distro to work properly. I would like to see better options, but I think if I switch away from openSUSE it will be a while. It is important to me to have a user friendly rolling distro. I wish KDE would switch KDE neon to the Sid repo. If they do that it would be the only user friendly rolling distro in the Debian/Ubuntu family & it would be the most rolling distro to ship KDE Plasma.

very nice video, it's always nice hearing other people's experiences in being able to play games well in linux, either because more devs are putting in the effort to provide binaries for linux or due to the increasingly better-quality compatibility tools such as proton i used linux intermittently back in 2017-18 for raspberry pi stuff, and then in late 2023 i recieved an old computer that couldn't run windows if it's life depended on it, thought to try linux on it given my existing serviceable knowledge of it so i stuck debian on it and it ran well on the desktop, and to my surprise, even plays some simpler games rather well considering its dated specs by any standard by early 2024, the EOL for win10 coming ever closer, with pretty much no reason to continue using win10, i thought to install it on a secondary drive on my main computer, and the results have been wonderful, i've even noticed some games that have given me issues on windows didn't give those same issues under linux, i can thoroughly say that i've got my back covered when MS stops supporting windows 10 now, after having seen the state of privacy on windows 11, i'm certainly glad i'm keeping this video noted when i have to demonstrate linux being functional for gaming, and i'll keep an eye out for the upcoming linux mint 22 video you mentioned as i'm sure it'll be as informative as this one, i hope you're well :)

@@n0viewers409 So after running it, there a couple of problems that I encountered. 1) The very first is that after running it for the first time it freezes my system. And if I select fullscreen mode, it messes up the my screen resolution even after quitting the game. However, this problem is easily fixed, I just have to select windowed mode at first, and once I am in the game, I can switch to fullscreen mode. 2) In the gameplay, If I dual wield, my character gets 3 hands XD. The flash of my mobile doesn't work. 3) The papers you get, which contains the password and ID for the computer to login, they don't "glow" as they should. These are just the first things I noticed before uninstalling it and then reinstalling it on windows, over there it works fine. (But it is just too much of hassle to play just one game on Windows). Trust me I feel that pain to, unfortunately it is just a side effect of switching :( I will say however there is no shame in having a Windows drive accessible for those situations no matter how frustrating it may be to have to keep it around. Setting up Gpu Pass through is something a lot of people do to VM Windows with hardware acceleration however that still can cause some issues with anti cheat. I would recommend if you keep a secondary drive with Windows to at least try and mitigate some of the telemetry and limit its access to your online accounts. For instance if you download Windows 11 from Microsoft's website and I mean the ISO specifically and throw in on a Ventoy bootable drive then once you install the OS and make it to the setup portion there is an option if your not connected to Ethernet to "Continue without internet" or something like that. That feature is locked out of Media Creation Tool Created USB's as well as A lot of the PC's you may buy from the store, creating a local account is a great first step into lessening the clutches that Microsoft has around the user!

Honestly Linux Mint in my opinion is the closest to the good ole days of Windows, Zorin also exists and it's selling point is that it looks like windows. There are tutorials online for how to install older versions of Photo Shop using Wine and I believe you could do that in whatever Linux Distro you choose :) Gaming in Linux is easier than ever, steam and other launchers use Wine and Proton out of the box so its usually as simple as setting the proton version in the games properties and clicking install. You can also use Lutris and it automates a lot of the process especially for older games. For instance recently Resident Evil came out on GOG and I install it through Lutris! If you have any more questions feel free to ask :)

Mint at the moment uses Ext4! As far as I know unless you manually set all partitions it will only install as Ext4 unless you select the specialized options and choose ZFS :)

@@n0viewers409 And you made a standard ext4 install?

    • @n0viewers409

@@e002840 So the way I installed the OS was a made a boot drive with Ventoy in WIndows 11. I downloaded the latest Linux Mint Cinnamon ISO the non Edge version and dragged it onto my newly created Ventoy drive (btw Ventoy install without Secure Boot support). I then restarted my PC of course with Secure Boot and Fast Boot disabled as well as Virtualization turned off, this is all just personal preference of course. I then booted into Linux mint and went through the standardized installer, once you get to the install section it will just have an option to clean install with no advanced options, this created 2 partitions one being for boot and the other being the ext4 partition which is the entire root partition where you OS and all of your data will go. After that I just did all of the expected things from making a username and password. Once the instillation was done I rebooted, now note and this may not be the case for you, but for me on my Nvidia 4060ti the pc will freeze when you restart after installing, all you have to do if this happens to you is just hard reset your pc. I always just hold the power button down which is not something I would recommend in most situations but at this rate the disk you installed to is no longer being written to and the OS is supposed to tell you to remove the install medium and reboot anyway. Sorry I hope this helped, like I said before you can select ZFS in the advanced options when installing or you can manually create partitions if you want more control over what type of partitions you are creating or for example want to separate your home and root partitions amongst other things :)

I could not have said it better myself, this is also why I hate Windows. Not to go off on a tangent but I am very passionate about this, functionality wise I like Windows 11 and if it was Open Source and made by a team with our best interests in mind then maybe things would be different. You could install literally any Linux distro from the ones maintained by companies with crap tons of support like Ubuntu or community maintained Distros that out of the box do not collect telemetry on you and even if they did there would always be a way to completely disable or remove it thanks to this great community. I hate being spied as much as the next person, I mean people give Ubuntu a lot of flack because they have Opt Out telemetry but honestly I would take having to click no one time over having to run scripts to sought out as much telemetry as possible in Windows 11. Another thing I love about Linux is that you install it and 9 out of ten times even on my Nvidia system I do not have to seek out drivers or download a crap ton of exes to install all of my apps, everything is centralized and beautifully functional... hey remember when you used to be able to move the Taskbar back in Windows 10 lol. That alone as a feature removed from Windows 11 is already a sign of the gross control Microsoft has over it's users. I do not want to come across like a Linux elitist or a know it all, if you like using Windows or NEED to use Windows I totally get it, I am in the same boat to some extent. I do believe despite all stated above that everybody has a right, a need even to understand what is really going on with Windows so that they can make an informed decision about what software they want to install on their machines :)

@@VirtualizerExtreme I believe Mint is fairly light compared to some of the bigger bloated Distros of which there are many... of course if a new user chooses in the Distros that support it to install all the packages they may want instead of just the ones they need for basic functionality then it will bloat things up as well though still far less than Windows.

I could not agree more, I have been using linux since I was 13 and have seen it go from almost totally incompatible to installable on every machine in my house. I am 25 now and I have spent so much time with Linux that life feels odd without it. Linux Mint 22 seems like it will be really cool and I am hoping that by the time the Nvidia Driver 560 comes out in Linux and we are being directed towards the open source driver than Wayland on most distros will be totally ready for the limelight on Nvidia GPUS.
