WWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZUUUUUUUUPPPPP!!!!
I thought this video was how to play games on Linux Mint 22 that are located on an NTFS drive. Can you make a video on "how to"? I am just switching everything over to Linux Mint 22 rn and I have a large library on a 4tb ntfs drive that I am trying to get it to work and still have access from windows 10 when needed. TIA.
WWWWAAAAAZZZZZZZUUUUUPPPP
damn im late
Lol I know this is a late response but don't worry about it my friend. I am about to go live to finish the game so I hope you can make it, if not I plan on playing through once more focusing just on the story on something other than the hardest difficulty before I start another game. I would have been finished but the PSN being down made it impossible to stream the game.
Are you using Gamemode by chance? And deactivating the compositor (shift+alt+F12)? Those are pretty easy performance fixes.
I have never used game mode but I have turned off the compositor before, thank you very much for the recommendation!
Damn i still need to get around to beating this game, to bad i freaking SUCK!
stutters badly for me here on Arch Linux
In this video I was using AMD, but not I have an Nvidia card and have not tested since 2022. Unfortunately as of now on Nvidia the game has a major Vram issue, I would recommend testing yourself on the latest Standard, Experimental or Glorious Eggrole release of Proton and maybe turn vram intensive settings down. You can find more info on the Proton DB page.
@@n0viewers409 yeah im trying to figure out whats going on. i see people on youtube play the game with no stutters. but here for me with Nvidia 2080ti on Arch the Vram instantly goes to 11gb as soon as the level loads and it stutters really badly unless I put the grpahics down to atleast High , then its somewhat fine, with occasional stutters still. Im wondering what exactly changed in the past 1-2 years to make it so bad? Or it was always like this for nvidia? Odd indeed
@@zeebpc Well I will say back when I did this video I had tested across multiple different distros and Mint was the only one that was mostly problem free. Unfortunately the fragmentation issue makes issues like this a lot harder to pin. If you find a solution or have any more questions then feel free to ask and I will help however I can!
If you have cutscene/FMV/etc. issues with a game, you probably need Proton-GE (or Wine-GE, for Lutris/etc., I generally prefer to avoid Steam where possible). AFAIK, Valve-official Proton versions do not include some standard open-source video decompressor software that might get them as a corporation into patent trouble, while community Wine versions generally do. Glorious Eggroll's custom builds combine both Valve's Proton gaming enhancements and community Wine builds' video support together with the latest versions of Wine from Wine-Staging and specific fixes for popular games, and come in versions for either the 'vanilla' Wine (Lutris, etc.) or Proton (Steam) ecosystems. It's a great service to the community! I'm quite excited for Mint 22 -- that's what I'm going to install on my beautiful brand new gaming desktop... once my processor _finally_ arrives. Having more frequent kernel updates is going to be nice. I wish I'd known my processor would (on the day it was due to arrive) be delayed, lost in transit, surprise-refunded, reordered, and shipped internationally to the tune of two extra weeks BEFORE I disassembled the venerable old machine to put together the new one with the same (recently replaced) PSU and the old hard drive installed as a secondary, though... I have so many cool new toys almost completely assembled but can't do anything more with it until the CPU arrives. Managed to skip an entire 'generation' of technology, AM3+ to AM5, DDR3 to DDR5, magnetic HDD to fast NVME storage, etc. Hopefully this machine ALSO lasts me 10+ years. I'm so glad I switched to Mint after Win7! From Internet chatter and the Windows users in my household, it seems like Microsoft has just... continued making things worse? I more expected Win8 to be a low point they'd eventually recover their credibility from, but I guess that was too optimistic. Glad I don't have to deal with that mess any more.
I have been using linux on and off past two years. Just installed Linux mint 22 it has come such a long way. Have some fun and customize your desktop! Plenty of good extensions and themes. Congrats on your migration!

@@marvfia Lol true that. I will be streaming more over the next few days as I got some cool new games so I hope to see you there and hopefully the weather chills the hell out.
Linux gaming has been great for a few years by now, already. Only thing holding it back atm is anticheat, and that isn't because linux isn't compatible, it absolutely is, but because the devs of said games simply haven't flicked the linux compatibility switch... It's the dev's fault, lol... All they have to do is flick a switch to ALLOW linux to work with the anticheat for the game in question, the groundwork is already done. So yeah, linux gaming has been all the way there for a while now. :) I'm swapping to Linux for my next OS, this win11 is gonna be my last windows machine, lol... Not sure when i will swap to linux, but i have a feeling i'll know, when the time arrives. I have a Linux Mint 22 USB ready to go anytime, lol.
"I really love games that you can play with one hand!" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Hey everyone I just wanted you to know the Linux Mint 22 gaming video is still coming! My kids just started back school and I have been playing New Vegas with what little free time I have but I have not forgotten about it, I was gonna ask you all to drop some titles you way want to see me test in replies to this comment and I will pick some for when I do the video, assuming of course I own the games you all pick! Hope to see you again soon and I hope you are all doing well :)
Hey man! In case you’d ever wondered, you can actually bypass the FPS cap of 60 fps if you change one of the files! Definitely great for me, I also have a question, I’ve been using windows and have never used Linux before and have been thinking about getting Linux Mint, I absolutely HATE the bloatware on windows and the horrible bugs. Do you recommend for me to change and if so would I regret it or so?
damit i miss it
Nice to see you @marvfia! Yea it sure was a special experience, I am still loving it though I still have a crap ton to go.
@@n0viewers409 that is good
does mint supports Dolby Atmos? HDR? thanks bro
As for Dolby Atmos I do not know for sure but from what I have read I do not think it is, and for HDR it is currently being developed and is getting better and better as time passes!
@@n0viewers409 needed to wait, Atmos and HDR are very important for my set up, I can’t wait no longer, fuxk windows once n for all
No it doesn't support atmos and no it doesn't support HDR. You'd need to use KDE and gamescope for experimental support. So you'd be better with a better distro. Mint is not the best distro for gaming OOTB.
I've done an absurd amount of distro hopping. I'm currently on openSUSE Tumbleweed which is the best I've tried so far. It's a really solid, reliable, rolling distro & it's very user friendly. The problem with Linux is the community focuses way too much on the terminal. You really don't need the terminal that much if you're an average user. If you get a Linux game from GOG they give you an sh file & it runs an installer just like how you would install a game with an exe on Windows. We should do that with other Linux software. That would bring in a lot more penguins. A PC should be so easy a baby could use it. Even Linus Torvalds agrees that Linux needs to be user friendly. The neckbeards in the Arch community don't want to admit that they're going against Linus' philosophy. The Debian community is just as bad. Even though every other distro in the Debian/Ubuntu family is super easy Debian itself is a mega time waster that gives me laryngitis. I switched to ape mode trying to get that damn distro to work properly. I would like to see better options, but I think if I switch away from openSUSE it will be a while. It is important to me to have a user friendly rolling distro. I wish KDE would switch KDE neon to the Sid repo. If they do that it would be the only user friendly rolling distro in the Debian/Ubuntu family & it would be the most rolling distro to ship KDE Plasma.
You could run sekiro with just wine and it might work faster, at least this works for me. I am using wine-staging 9.8 and run sekiro thru lutris. my gpu is gtx 750ti and I do play it in 720p and a custom graphics config file just to keep fps 60 constant. The fire area you showed ran considerably better than on windows for my hardware so nice upgrade. Do keep in mind that it is different for hardware to hardware. Good luck :D
very nice video, it's always nice hearing other people's experiences in being able to play games well in linux, either because more devs are putting in the effort to provide binaries for linux or due to the increasingly better-quality compatibility tools such as proton i used linux intermittently back in 2017-18 for raspberry pi stuff, and then in late 2023 i recieved an old computer that couldn't run windows if it's life depended on it, thought to try linux on it given my existing serviceable knowledge of it so i stuck debian on it and it ran well on the desktop, and to my surprise, even plays some simpler games rather well considering its dated specs by any standard by early 2024, the EOL for win10 coming ever closer, with pretty much no reason to continue using win10, i thought to install it on a secondary drive on my main computer, and the results have been wonderful, i've even noticed some games that have given me issues on windows didn't give those same issues under linux, i can thoroughly say that i've got my back covered when MS stops supporting windows 10 now, after having seen the state of privacy on windows 11, i'm certainly glad i'm keeping this video noted when i have to demonstrate linux being functional for gaming, and i'll keep an eye out for the upcoming linux mint 22 video you mentioned as i'm sure it'll be as informative as this one, i hope you're well :)
I am doing super well and a lot of that is to do with the fact that people have enjoyed this video, Your comment and story is wonderful and I thank you so much for sharing. I am going to do another Gaming in Linux Mint video very soon on the new release Mint 22 and I plan on testing not only more games but more launchers and scenarios. I hope to see you around again on a future video and feel free to share more stories, I love connecting to other Linux users!
I recently had trouble running Cry of Fear, have you tried it out?
I for sure can! I will respond to your comment once I have tested it :)
Alrighty, so on Linux Mint 22 I was able to install and run the game with no issues using the latest stable release of Proton. This version of course is 9.0-2. I hope this helps and if you have any more questions just let me know!
@@n0viewers409 Oh thank you for such a quick response. I had uninstalled it, but i've put it on download again after your response. So i'll make sure to update you very soon! I tried CoF on Pop_OS, and had problems. So I am still unsure if it'd work as well as you mentioned for Mint
@@n0viewers409 So after running it, there a couple of problems that I encountered. 1) The very first is that after running it for the first time it freezes my system. And if I select fullscreen mode, it messes up the my screen resolution even after quitting the game. However, this problem is easily fixed, I just have to select windowed mode at first, and once I am in the game, I can switch to fullscreen mode. 2) In the gameplay, If I dual wield, my character gets 3 hands XD. The flash of my mobile doesn't work. 3) The papers you get, which contains the password and ID for the computer to login, they don't "glow" as they should. These are just the first things I noticed before uninstalling it and then reinstalling it on windows, over there it works fine. (But it is just too much of hassle to play just one game on Windows). So, sadly, I don't play the game at all nowadays.
@@RAyLV17 To be totally honest Pop 22.04 at least for me has some issues, Mint 22 is actually pretty up to date now and Cinnamon the desktop environment is very well performing and smoother than most especially on my Nvidia Gpu. Let me know how it goes :) I may even make a video later today showcasing how to run the game with some gameplay. If you would like for me to test anything else assuming I have it in my library or it is free just let me know and I will check it out!
Does anyone know how to change the volume step increment on Mint 22? 5% is too large of a volume change.
I am not sure but I will look into it and get back to you :)
you can install the other sound volume applet (enhanced sound applet and replace the original one, it has more options and 1 of them is increase sound by 1, 2, etc
@@dj__grizzly hey mate thank you for the reply, but I ended up using Mate and then installed dconf editor to adjust the vale. Thanks again though!
HI! I just wanted to let EVERYBODY know that Linux Mint 22 JUST DROPPED and I will be installing it tonite :) This means an updated, bigger and BETTER Gaming in Linux Mint video on a new Kernel and on a new release of the already amazing Linux Mint! I am so excited and will start working on the video as soon as possible, this video will include a variety of games covering different genres as well as different launchers AND showcasing some things that may not work as expected if not at all. I can't wait to see you all there and I hope you all have a very wonderful day!
Linux mint is great but for some reason a lot of the games would not detect my controllers wired or Bluetooth, pop os works fine. Also Sekiro looks cool but I'm not going to play any other souls game until I finish bloodborne lol.
Ah, I think I may know how to fix your problem. Did you install the Flatpak of Steam or the system package? As far as the Sekiro I for sure recommend it for after you finish Bloodborne!
@@n0viewers409 I have tried both versions of steam and other launchers and it also doesn't detect on emulators too. I'm not sure if i'm missing a driver or something?
@@Saturn-OS That is very peculiar, are you using an Xbox controller? I know in some Distros you have to install something specific for an Xbox controller but with Playstation and Switch controllers in my experience you just have to go into Steams big picture mode and go to the controller section and enable steam input for said controller, if that does not work let me know and I will help you troubleshoot further!
@@n0viewers409 I haven't use Linux mint in a while but thinking about it might have only been a problem with games on heroic launcher and emulators mainly with a Xbox and PlayStation controllers. Sorry about that.
