Why does it go off erratically? My new unit sounds off when i hold the disc against trees, im pretty certain there is no metal in wood.

No doubt the larger Garrett coil will go to deeper depths too, but i have found the smaller 5x8 coil was far superior in pinpointing when in all iron mode, meaning the larger coil passed right over a penny and a gold coin without beeping in all iron mode but did pick up iron at twice the distance. The problem with searching in coin mode with larger coils is it will not detect small gold coins and buttons. There are trade offs to any of these different sized coils. I myself prefer a smaller pinpointing coil in all iron mode as it may not go as deep but will pick up many more valuable objects the larger, deeper coil fails to pinpoint and register. Just passes right over it! You will go about 8 inches deep but miss nothing. Larger coil, 12 inches but miss some type coins and objects.

fyi, the battery compartment tabs are super loose and you need to jam something in between the back of the battery and the tabs so the batteries can connect

What sort of mineralization were these tests done in? As in what numbers were thre ground balance reading on the machine?

It doesn't work in water, I use it in beach but not dry sand. I bought mine 3 months ago. And I found some coins and my first Silver Ring after just 3 times of detection.

i dont see the advantage for the price. i have tagged metal over 18 inches deep using the 7.5khz concentric coil with my 705. it would be nice for the larger coverage area and ability to change to all three freqs, but i really dont see the point.

It works best at 18.75khz, because the antenna (sensor) is made more precisely for a higher frequency, but not for a frequency of 3khz. This is true because an antenna will be made for a higher frequency rather than a smaller one. For f = 3khz, it takes a lot, a lot of wire to be wound. If it was better to do an antenna for 3khz, then TEST 3khz would have been better than 18.75khz! In nature, the lower frequency has a higher amplitude and is stronger than the higher. Therefore, the deeper and lower frequency passes further. Again, it is evidence that if you went upstairs with frequencies, they would have come to a moment when the frequency would be rejected from the ground. Sorry, but the test is not correct for the frequency, and it is correct for an antenna (sensor) that is set to 18.75khz. Greetings from Nebojsa.
