      Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! 🙏 You’re absolutely right-Gibran’s immense talent and intelligence were central to his success, and I truly appreciate you highlighting that. While I wanted to emphasize the influential figures around him, I agree that without his own unique genius, none of it would have been possible. I believe we all have the potential to create something special, and it’s when we find the right conditions to express ourselves that this potential truly shines. Thank you again for your input, and I wish you a wonderful day!

    Thank you for your work. Gibran is from my hometown, I would like to add some notes to his bio: Gibran is NOT an Arab person, he is a Lebanese (huge difference). His family was not broken, just his father had a fear of traveling, he stayed behind to manage the property they own, hoping for the family to come back to the homeland. Blessings

    • @BoldBooksandBones
      @BoldBooksandBones หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your insights about Kahlil Gibran. It's always valuable to hear from someone with a personal connection to his hometown. I appreciate your perspective regarding Gibran's identity. Many people see the term 'Arab' as encompassing various peoples and cultures, including Lebanese, due to shared language and regional history. However, I fully understand that many Lebanese, like Gibran, may identify more strongly with their unique Lebanese heritage, which has its own rich and ancient history, including the Phoenician roots. For example, as a Flemish person, I often hear my language referred to as a dialect of German or Dutch, even though we have our own distinct Belgian culture. While I appreciate and respect German and Dutch cultures, I can relate to the desire to maintain and express a unique national identity. So I completely understand your point about Lebanese identity. :-) Regarding Gibran's family, I appreciate the added context. My understanding was based on a biography of his life, but I recognize that interpretations of history can vary. It’s always wonderful to hear a more localized perspective from someone with deeper ties to the culture. I have not yet had the pleasure of visiting Lebanon, but what I know comes from books and conversations with Lebanese friends and colleagues who have lived abroad for many years. Thank you again for contributing to this discussion, and blessings to you as well!

      Gibran and other great Lebanese ,Syrian and Arab thinkers and Poets of that time believed in a greater nation and united political entities whether it was greater Syria or as independent Arab nations from colonialism and Ottoman rule, they also believed in the Arab identity in its broader dimension culturally and linguistically without any inferiority complex and dreamed of the independence and development of the Levant and Middle East peoples. Khalil's name and family name were Arabic and he wrote his most beautiful poems and literature in Arabic (and English). Gibran was spiritually influenced by Bahaism and Islamic Sophism and he was excommunicated from the Maronite Church because he attacked the corrupt religious institutions and extremism, however the excommunication was later rescinded after Gibran's popularity. He loved Lebanon and attacked sectarian conflicts and divisions and never considered himself as a Phoenician and he never pioneered any form of Lebanese Nationalism or Phoenician ideology as created by extreme right wing Christian Lebanese parties.

      Hello @ManiKumar-ht1cf, thank you for your kind words. I’m happy to read that you find the episode well explained. I think war is horrible and should be avoided. I feel sad whenever people try to glorify it. Also I think there are in the Martial arts a lot of positive aspects. There is the discipline, the humbleness of the true warrior, the dedication to win, the loyalty etc. Additionally if we look for example at the Samurai and some other warrior groups, there is even an esthetic in the way the dress and in the simplicity of their weapons. In part 2 of this episode, I talk about the meaning of Martial art in the Chinese culture based upon the characters they use to describe it. The meaning of the characters is to « stop the violence ». If you would be interested, you find the episode here: th-cam.com/video/YCoC-c1VWQM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vmMHEhedv7SnidXU Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. I wish you a nice day. Lieven

      One thing to keep in mind is that although related, a warrior/soldier culture is not the same as a war culture. A warrior/soldier culture, especially in ancient times, is about the individual, whether it's about discipline, strength, courage, honor, or even defeating your own "demons." It's about the self. War, on the other hand, is about defeating the enemy. And many times, it's at the cost of the individual/self.

    I think it was either Joseph Heller or Curt Vonnegut who said, ‘everyone is capable of everything’. But this everyone and everything is perhaps too extreme. The psyop conducted by Zambardo did show that many people, college students in his study, who had no known history of sadism were nonetheless capable of cruel punishments inflicted on others who were under their control and with the authority given them by Zambardo,himself. But not all. There were some who refused and were eliminated from participating. These are the important characters in history and indeed for our own day. This small remnant of human material are the ones that make the world livable.

    Thanks a lot for this collage of information and views to Bussels real manifestation of some of the art we see in the visual novels. I came across Schuiten & Peeters somewhen end of the 80ties, with the book “De archivaris”. I did buy later some serigraphs, which are still hanging in my house 😊. Since then, I also learned Dutch. I did buy different publications in both languages, besides German (mother language, French by education). Unfortunately the book stores which are specializing in BD/strip books, did dramatically change in my home town. So I have too “find” new publications, especially a bit more rare publications, such as the triage de tête and others are hard to find for me. Love that you showed the latest book, which I missed… Fantastic art, again. Lot’s of regards from Switzerland

      Hello @chrs_d2000, Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! It's fantastic to hear about your journey with Schuiten & Peeters and your deep appreciation for their work. "De Archivaris" is indeed a remarkable book, and it's great that you have some of their serigraphs hanging in your house - they must be a real treasure! It's impressive that you've learned Dutch and collected publications in multiple languages. I can understand how the changes in bookstores have made it challenging to find new and rare publications. I'm glad that you enjoyed the latest book featured in the video. Schuiten & Peeters' art continues to amaze and inspire! Thank you for sharing your experience and for the kind words. Lots of regards back to you in Switzerland! 😊

    The full understanding of Tsun's book actually comes from the more direct and poetic translation ... if yor mind is flexible enough on language , and unfortunately we in the west are most trained to seek single meanings from text. Like for Lao tze , and Chuang tze , there are complete and overlapping ...levels of comprehension. Theyre truly literary masterworks as fine as Shakespeare and Melville.

    Very good, but it becomes painful when these words, spoken in a sweet, soft way (whispering) describe a situation we are living in, with increasing censorship (since that strange virus, to the current moment, in a certain country in the Americas)...
