    Great informative video. I also have a '98 Avalon XLS with 235K. The speedometer and odometer fail every time it gets hot inside the car, but they start working normal again after it cools down. Could you please confirm the spec for the manufacturer part number you used. I am concerned about using the correct capacitance version, which is either xxxG53xxx (15pF) or the xxxG56xxx (47pF) that you used. Considering that one of your commenters burned his circuit board, I want to confirm that the 47pF version is indeed correct, and how did you determine to select that version to order. Thanks for your reply or from any other knowledgeable commenter.

I think the individual that had a bad experience either had a soldering issue or another electrical issue that caused his cluster to fail. That’s the only time I heard of an issue happening. This is a straight forward process. There really isn’t much that can go wrong. Be sure your battery is disconnected during the instrument cluster removal and installation to play it safe. Hopefully the video poster can get back to me, or maybe somebody who knows a bit about this. I have a 1998 Camry, I had someone attempt to replace the resonator for me and the traces on the circuit board came off that are around the 3 holes for the resonator. How would I go about installing a different cluster from a different 98 Camry into mine. I know there’s a chip on the speedometer board that deals with the odometer information, but I’ve had to drive my car once or twice and my mechanic says the ecu has been storing the accurate mileage reading so I’m wondering how I’d go about installing a different speedometer for my cluster and getting it to show the accurate mileage. Any help would be appreciated, there’s no instrument repair people around me.

    Hi Jeff. Any idea whether this solution works for a 2004 Lexus GX470? There seems to be a common scenario for that vehicle where the speedometer is stuck at 0 but the odometer continues to function (and thankfully the transmission shifting also behaves itself) which is of course different to the 3 symptoms you've described. I'd give it a try only I have to order the part first and without having taken out the cluster yet I can't site the component to make sure it is the same value - so I guess my first question is do you know if the component is the same for that model vehicle? Or anyone able to direct me to a circuit diagram (or photo even) for the GX470 speedo itself?

    • @jeffharrell1874
      @jeffharrell1874 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There’s multiple ways, depending on what tools you have available. It’s possible to use just a hammer or mallet alone to lightly tap them in. I’ve heard of people using a socket or pvc piece of the same diameter of the seals to help evenly apply force on the seal to help it fully seat in place. If I remember correctly, I think I only used a small hammer to carefully tap all around the seal. It’s not the easiest method, but it’s better than hammering against a flat head screw driver which could slip out of place and cut through your seal. I made that mistake and had to buy another set of tube seals lol.
