    someone said these are the last of the old skool analogue type hot hatches.i got one the same 140bhp 2.0, a 2000 model,it doesn't really fully live up to the legendary 205gti's statusi,but not many cars do,still a very capable and fun car.mines got the sp kit on it which was apparently an £1000 optional extra when new lol,it includes the spoiler like yours (which on mine coincidentally has corroded in the same place as yours with those funny little spots🤔) a chrome mesh front grill and chrome mesh in the bonnet scoops. cool video👍

  • @aidantuckwell9191

    Nice vid! I've owned the 140hp and 180hp versions. It's always better to use all available rpm (all the way to redline) if looking for acceleration/max performance, especially in this configuration. It's true for v8s and modern turbos as well, even though you may get a torque dropoff, the gearing still makes it more advantageous. It's true even for diesels that have very narrow torque bands at low rpm. Though it will waste fuel, possibly overstress components in some cases, and may even be pointless if say, you're just going to need to downshift a moment later and need the lower gear for a corner. The ew10j4 and ew10j4s are engines that need to be pushed. Especially the ew10j4s, where half of the advantage is in the extra 1000rpm redline and the variable intake timing. They do sound raw and rough when you push them though, but it's all part of the full on old school NA setup. It was everything they could do to stay relevant as hot hatches became turbo dependant. That's why this, the 180, and cars like the Clio Sport were really the last in the line of true hot hatches. From here onwards they all either had started using turbos (like in the Golf GTI) or were just about to (207 GTi with the ubiquitous 1.6 turbo Prince engines found in heaps of cars, like BMW/Mini today). The thing is that for a 1000kg-ish FWD car, you cant really give them much more than 180hp without driving them becoming tricky. At that point you have to really start relying on traction control or lots of experience, even with 7inch wide wheels and soft rubber. So even these turbo hot hatches now have only about the same power to weight, and use a lot of tech to keep them stable. This 206 GTi is basically the very last tech-free hot hatch. The GTI180 has traction control and a lengthened 1st gear to compensate. So it really was the final days. The only way to then keep upping track times and performance became creating these all-wheel-drive versions, like the Golf R, which then puts them into weight/performance categories like WRXs' and AUDIs'. But the thing is, on B roads/windy tracks, they dont have much (if any) advantage, as they are that little bit heavier. They only really can out corner a simple hot hatch if they fully rely on their all-wheel-drive and have a very good driver... and if the computer will let them :P I find it to be a lot like motorbikes: Sure one has a lot more power, but can they actually use it? In reality simple machines often take the cake.

    • @racinggeeks9495
      @racinggeeks9495 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment mate! Very true, the 206 gti’s are just man and machine nothing fancy just pure old school rawness!! 👌🏽 I agree with you on the modern all wheel drive cars- they are quick indeed but lack engagement when hitting B roads.

    I only ever drove the 206 GTi 180 but I would think they had quite a few similarities. The only car I have ever ordered new and then cancelled was a 206 GTi 180, I tried to love it but my head eventually got the better of me, it just wasn't that good. It wasn't the handling, that was ok, but the full package (just not as good as the 306 GTi-6 or the 309 GTi, which were both far better cars). There were to many flaws that left you feeling cold and disconnected, the gearing was far too long in 2nd and it really felt like the engine needed a 6 speed box to get the best out of it. I found the pedal position to be too far over to the right which with a compromised driving position made it feel awkward to say the least. I wanted to love the GTI 180 but couldn't, and the 138 shared most of these flaws, which was a shame, but it put me off Peugeot's for 10 years (the models produced in that time, 206, 207, 307 etc, not previous models), and wasn't till 2013 ish that I went back to them (and still own the car I purchased in 2014 😁).

    • @racinggeeks9495
      @racinggeeks9495 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Tony B Thanks for the comment 👊🏾. Yeah 306 gti’s were great cars - the 205 the predecessor seemed to handle a lot better than the 206 gti too. I agree with you on the gearbox the throws for me were too long, you need a short shifter I feel to get the best out of the engine to keep it in the powerband. Yeah I would’ve loved to try the 180 - Nice one, the newer gen’s of Peugeot seem to be a lot better now 👌🏽

    Get oil pump kit delete the balance shaft, change to bigger throttle body. I do think smaller mags better?

    A nice economical mod for you, is to remove the fins/baffles inside the oem air box to mimic the TEGIWA one which is completely smooth inside. Tegiwa quote 5-8bhp without a map for theirs and costs £400+

      @@racinggeeks9495 Another one for you is to buy a KTune rocker cover breather filter (£20ish) and vent all the super hot air coming from the rocker cover into the atmosphere rather than it being feed back into the intake pipe just before the throttle body. The intake pipe connection will have to be blanked off. This reduces the intake air temperature massively in my experience. Cold air more power. You might be able to see it on my thumbnail picture. Keep the vids coming mate.

    Best mods you can do >Exhaust manifold >Injen induction kit (better than HKS) I've had both >catback exhaust >Sports cat >Wave track LSD If staying NA it's all you'll need and a map on top it'll fly ! Ride quality go eibach 15mm not 30mm to low and scrapes

      @@racinggeeks9495 sound man I hear what you're saying about the car you gotta weigh up how long you gonna keep v cost ? If your not keeping long term I'd say a set of braided lines motul rf600 and some quality pads and just keep it clean If lightly modding without breaking bank then yeah catback & intake If longer term exhaust manifold Japspeed is under 300 & map with above will totally change drivability my VTEC comes in at 3800rpm with a hard press of throttle and rev limiter is raised Not ridiculously loud but these engines love to breath I got a sports cat magnex (£120) with the manifold sailed through MOT Forget forced induction to much outlay & reliability may be compromised Mine is at 115k I've had the engine compression tested these cars are bullet proof high milage no issues at all What kills these is rust !

      @J A Yeah they are bulletproof mines a high miler aswell still loves to be revved out! Cheers for the mod ideas mate, I’ll look into them. Yeah atm just weighing up what’s best for the car and without breaking the bank 🙏🏽

    If you get a hondata off ebay and put the group n map on that will transform the car, more than a filter or exhaust, brings the vtec down to around 3500rpm but transforms the car. Then look at other mods you'll get a flashpro for around 300 pounds now

    • @lordyboyo
      @lordyboyo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh and get your drive shafts checked one snapped on me other day and had to get aa to tow it to the garage, mines a 07 reg with 85k on, but I'm running around 240 hp since having the balance shaft delete done. ( thats the best mod in my opinion)

    • @racinggeeks9495
      @racinggeeks9495 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If going down that route with the Hondata flashpro is it fairly easy to set up ? That would be cool bringing vtec in that early 🔥

    • @lordyboyo
      @lordyboyo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@racinggeeks9495 it transforms the car, its how they should of done it out of the factory.yeah you just need a computer or laptop and download the hondata off the Internet, its very easy, and you just plug the hondata into the car and press a button and it uploads it, job done. You'll need one if you ever get it tuned if you get performance modification anyway.

      @@racinggeeks9495 as luck had it, it snapped on a Wednesday and I had it booked in on the Friday for uprated bushings on the front, so worked out well, just cost more than I was expecting as I had both done, no pint just doing 1. Its not bad my mate has a manual golf r and it there's nothing in it at legal speeds. Off the line he leaves me for dead but rolling up to 70 its neck and neck, which is weird because before the balance shaft delete he used to slowly pull away doing the same runs, its been a very reliable car in the 7 years I've had it, new battery and 1 coil pack (that was in the first 3 months of ownership, and drive shaft thats it.
