"And this is why we dont have a fence" 😂
i love my fence, dogs stay in and can run free in the yard, kids stay in the perimeter when i work in my garden, fences are not ugly they add character to a home, that plastic bag is uglier but it does work for the snow
You sound triggered by someone who has a differing opinion than you! That works for you. I dont like keeping my children in a pen. Have a dog run with turf and fence and bathroom area. Cover works for everything and is not an ugly fence.
@ you sound like you cant accept others opinions either...
I sure can accept them. But the difference is it doesnt offend me when others have opinions that i dont like. I just ignore them. Like I said it works for you. Doesnt work for me. But in reality id have an auto cover no matter if I had a fence or not
@@AllHomeDIYDad ok boomer...i mean burger....
@@trapeziumcut boomer? As in baby boomer? Far from. Im a millennial whether I like it or not
I'm looking to do the same project and researching. All the information I'm seeing online says mature green giants get as wide as 20-25ft wide and up to 40-75ft tall. Maybe those overhanging trees are factored into the equation as that will probably stung their growth a bit.
My type are emerald and only get 5ft wide and 15-20 ft tall but ill be trimming to be a nice hedge at a about 10 ft tall
Just to clarify, you used this screws that came with that swivel mount right?
I did not. I used longer ones because I was going through 1/2” drywall and into a 2x8 ceiling joist. I got 3” I think. Maybe even 3.5”. I would have used the ones that came with it had I been going directly into wood vs the drywall before the wood.
These are planted too close together dude
Some say so. Some say its fine. They are warrantied for life and placed at the recommendation of the person I bought from so we will see. If I need to replace then it is what it is.
Hi thanks for doing the video, but it was way too fast to see how you got the canopy back on with the section that has to go over the counter lever arm. Any way of showing that part slower?
Sorry! There is usually velcrow section you have to open to put over that part and then fasten back again since its a “hole” to put it through.
nice work, thanks.
Glad I could help!
Him :nothing can get through it Guns and knifes :👁️👄👁️
Distruction of property = counter lawsuit

The point is for safety to keep people from falling in. If they break it then who cares. Why would someone break it. To swim in middle of the night?
they are too close together, usually what you do for rushing the spacing like that is to do a checker board double row planting so they don't choke on each other as they mature. hopefully it works out ok for you, if not you might have to try transplanting- or careful pruning as they get wider
I plan to trim as they grow to make a hedge and I have full warranty and was told by supplier on spacing for my desired look and said its totally fine. Also have drip line and fertilize and have a lot of sun. Hoping for the best but I don’t Mind replacing some if needed or if they are big enough and some die then letting the others fill the gap
They are planted way way way way way too close together dude! U are really wasting your money & ruining the beauty of them as they mature. Next spring you need to take out transplant at least 50% or every other one. You will thank me later.
Lol alright. Proper trimming watering and fertilizing. They will be a great hedge line. Suspect I may lose a few but thats ok. Warrantied for life. These also only get 5 ft wide. They are not the huge wide ones
lol bruhhh. He doesn’t NEED to do anything 😂
You planted them too close together they will all be dead in 10 years
2.75’ perfect hedge. They only get 5 ft wide. These arnt the ones that get ten ft wide. This was recommended by my guy who warrantied for life.
Shorewood, Mn thanks for this video.
You betcha
Thank you! Great instructions, very clear, and filming was excellent. Enabled me to do the job myself without paying a handyman.
So glad it could be of help!
How much Fertilizer a year and what kind to use
I sprinkle like a 1/4 cup of Milorganite on each one of the trees about every month from snow melt time through october.
Pink foam is carvable with a dremel. Try an ultrasonic mister coupled with a fogger. No ice needed. Same if not better effect. Also, 1-1-1 of glycerin, propylene glycol and distilled water…super thick. Not to be used for a fog curtain that people walk through though: PG isn’t that good to breathe.
I dont get that into it. I just use store bought. It is usually in the 40’s for us at halloween so getting itncolder than the air is hard.
@ It’s all about density. Cold air sinks. Heavy air sinks. Water sinks. Propylene glycol (Walmart) absorbs water. Glycerin makes the fog whiter. You could even skip the chiller as long as you’re putting out dense, moist air. Just a thought. Happy haunts!
This is helpful, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video - bloopers and all.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good video but I have a suggestion. Instead of snaking the rope down into the hole, tape your cable to your fish stick and push it up into the hole. Then find it inside and pull the cable from the outside of the house up and in. To straighten the wires, lay a couple across the stem of a round screwdriver and press with your thumb. Pull the wires through. Overall, a good video for those that haven't ever done stuff like this before.
I tried that method on other parts of my garage and doesnt work due to tall ceilings 10ft and there is a tiny space to feed the cordage and cant get the angle from the outside. At least I couldnt
Had this same problem.. the spring spreader tool fits the outside spring but not the inside spring. There should be a separate tool for the inside.
Frustrating!
Thetreecenter.com 5-6 foot 20 quantity for 2800.20 for the Emerald Green Arborvitae

Glad I could help!
I want one of those set-ups for around my pool next summer. I just need to find someone willing to pour the concrete and anchor the base. And, of course, install the umbrella. Money talks. I'm sure I'll find someone.
If you are nearby ill do it. Find a handyman. Not too bad of a job
They have 6 foot ones at lowes for $50
Do they install them for you as well?
@@AllHomeDIYDad they don't, wish they did and brought a case of beer
@@LongJonSilver305 cost is in the labor for planting larger trees. Takes a lot of work and machinery
@AllHomeDIYDad o wow yeah i see you put alot of stone in.. looks great.. I went with a shovel and mulch.. only did 6 of them tho lol
@@LongJonSilver305 six would be much more doable and cost effective to buy large ones.
Agree- bloopers have me laughing so hard!
Such a frustrating spring issue.
what size of back stop board did you use in your video at 27:05?? I am installing the same door handle you did.
Where im installing the latch pin? Its the hardy board siding. I think its half inch thickness but the 2x6 is at the bottom so screws go through and into that.
@@AllHomeDIYDad Is that the same size as the board on the left door that you used a oscillating saw on? Thanks for your help.
@@wadekruse4462 yes. Its the same panelling. The hardy siding is very nice and easy to work with.
@@AllHomeDIYDad In your video you are installing a wood piece on the back of the left door so when the right door shuts it will hit up against the left door once you latch it closed( left door as if you are standing in front of the shed looking at your doors). What size is that board? Sorry about the confusing questions.
@@wadekruse4462 ohhh!!! Sorry! Its just a peice of scrap wood I had. Anything will work that is 1/2” thick or more by about 3.5” or more wide. Just something to screw in to stop the other side from going in too far and keeping them flush
Great video and concept! I'll be trying to recreate this project for this Halloween. Can you include the dimensions of the crypt design?
I dont have it. Did I not include the size in the video?! If not I apologize. Its about 5-6’ long and 2-3’ wide
I need to do similar job but i'm in central TX and to spend as much time in my attic as you did yours i need to wait a few months. 🫠
How did you hook up the camera to your tablet? That’s a great way to check before installing. Did you just buy a cord that has a USB-C end on it and RJ45 on the other end? And then from there you just open whatever app the camera is? I’m still learning all of this.
Great question. What I did was have a separate long ethernet cord that I plugged into the camera and then to my internet and connected it to my system before fully installing so that I can hold it up a d view it on the app. So its basically installing it before fully attaching it to the soffit. Can only do it if you have enough extra ethernet cord to make it from your poe switch to the location of instal. Does that make sense at all? Feel like I didnt answer that very well
Ty for the great tip about the coffee shop burlap sacks!
You are welcome
Nice garden! Is that how much 50 of those would cost you in your neck of the woods? Or are you factoring in labor as well? A price of $600-$800 per tree seems rather high. I've seen them in 15-gallon pots for about $55 at a nursery out West. They were about 5 to 6 feet in height.
@@nikolaiv1138 all depends on year and market and location and the type of arbs. This was landscape company so def higher
Great job with the crucial 1st year ! Now you want to stop watering in short durations and start with one longer water period. The idea, especially with these plants that are known for tipping over in storms, is training the root system to go deep, which is what the longer irrigation spells spaced with periods of dryness will do. Often and short watering will only produce roots at the surface.
Ahead of you Craig!!! Starting last year (year 2) I did maybe 1-3 waters per week depending on weather for much longer duration. Along with periodically fertilizing with Milorganite. A couple are 5ft tall!!
@@AllHomeDIYDad Perfect ! One thing the general public doesn't know is that all trees shouldn't be fertilized regularly with a nitrogen base. The growth spurt you got isn't wanted, { it will lead to disease later on.} Slow & steady is what you want. A light application of Osmocote in the spring is all ya need. Making these plants grow fast will lead to toppling in the years to come. { Also, pruning is essential for building a strong frame for taller privacy.}
@@craigathonian so you dont recommend continued fertilization with Milorganite? If I do it every couple months from april to september for the life of the tree that wont be good? Is going from 18” to 4-5’ in 2.5 years too fast?
@@AllHomeDIYDad Yes, This species is known for having a small root system and fast top growth...which leads to toppling of the whole plant, or limbs breaking in storms. Especially in a single row, Regular shape pruning will force the tree to grow a candelabra framework which is stronger and at the same time force the tree to grow roots. Try looking for a fertilizer that contains more phosphorus and potassium than nitrogen. Look for "bloom Booster" fert's which has a higher "phosphorus" center number out of the 3 number codes on labels. With that all that's needed is a spring application. { For trees, Nitrogen in mediocre amounts is like humans having too much sugar...it will always lead to sickness in the long run.}
Perfect! Thank you! No more waiting for my husband to do anything anymore 😂
You can do anything he can! And probably faster. Us husbands are slow.
Great tips and a simple design. Thank you.
Glad it was useful for you! Thanks for the comment!
Hey there Is this emerald or plicata atrovirens? I want to start a project like this with the ones you have and columnaris lawson to mix colors. Can you help me out with this so i won't mess up? Keep up the Good work, they are huge
Mine are emerald. No closer than 2.5’ apart if in a line and full sun and watering and fertilizing. If doing staggered then do wider. Putting a drip line is is key and fertilizing often
@@AllHomeDIYDad I appreciate the answer, need to decide what to do. I still have time because I will start this next month. Have a good week 😉
Nice doors! Thinking ya have FORT KNOX GOLD? Why 2 separate doors
One door would be wayyyy too big and have to swing open way away. Would be obnoxious. I used to have the one top open roll up door. Those work fine. Mine broke. Like opening a door much better than pulling it open.
Beast
What is your mix ratio of Bifen per gallon of water for your sprayer?
Sorry. Cannot remember. I check the manual for what it recommends for mosquitoes. I feel like its 4oz per gallon but I could be off
I install these and this vid is truly a great way to skip the wide base which is a rather large footprint. Excellent vid
Agreed!! Much better option. Can even instal in two spots and move it with a few bolts if you wanted
If you don't like the satin of the stone gray spray you could probably spray some matte varnish over it. I want to make one of these, so some good tips in here. I've used those small plastic skulls before. I used them for embedding in foam gravestones, and for making the tops spooky fence posts. They're pretty easy to cut and work with.
Good tip! Yes the skulls were awesome to work with
A dummy question but what would the difference in effect be without chillbox compared to your setup?
Hi! Great question. So it all depends on the weather. Its usually cold around halloween where I live in MN. So the chillbox doesnt have as big of an effect because it hard to get the fog cooler than the air temp when it comes out of a heated up machine. But its suppose to lay lower to the ground and not dissipate so quickly when it is chilled. Better effect. More spooky. More fun. The warmer it is outside the better the chiller will work. With no chiller it will still look cool but the fog will rise up and disappear faster as it will be warmer than the air. Hope that helps
Thanks for your quick answer. I will definitely try and build a version of this! I guess you dont put the smoke/fog machine inside the coffin because of heat/fire safety? My problem is that here we usually have like 45 F and rain... Maybe put the smoke machine under a roof and use a long pipe to the coffin?
@@chra186 yes I have same issue. I put it behind the coffin and put a little cover over it in case of rain. You could run a pipe but its not as effective with the fan pushing the fog and air through that pipe to the coffin. Wont come out as strong
I’m interested in collaborating with you. Could you please let me know the best way to reach you for further discussion? Thank you
They are way too close to each other aren't they? I've seen spacing recommendations anywhere from 8-10 feet
Must be a different arb. These get 5ft wide so why would you want 8-10 ft for a privacy hedge. 2.75’ apart and will be nice solid hedge. If I had no watering system and not a lot of sun I would do it different.
How much are they
They were like $15-25 each at about 2ft tall. Getting close to 4ft now!
Nothing to do but tear it all out and start over at the beginning. Lol
@@mynamedoesnotmatter737 nahhh. The amount of sand in there and soap and excessive water doesnt let the weeds really grow as much as we thought.
How long would you say this takes to install, say if a handyman installed it? I would like to do it myself but the apartments said I have to use a professional.
A handyman likely would have it done in 15-30 minutes provided he could find a stud quickly!
Oh that is BAD @$$!
Thanks!!!!
15-20 feet tall? Lol😂
Whats so funny? They will grow to that size. Have neighbors with them that tall
@@AllHomeDIYDad From my understanding, Green Giants can grow up to 60 ft or more.
@@morefunfamily6500 not my type. Thats crazy tall lol
@@AllHomeDIYDad Yeah, I saw below you said Emerald. Much more reasonable size!
Thanks for the inf I am doing the same project thank you again ♥️
You got it! They are still going strong. Monthly fertilizing with Milorganite.
Might also work on the deck since we can’t fasten anything to our townhome!
For sure could work on a deck! Thanks for the comment!
Do you think this would work with pvc pipe instead of galvanized pipe?
@@candidelarose possibly but pvc is very bendy at that size and would sag a lot and look pretty bad. Maybe for a very short span.
How did you connect the top pieces together? I’m trying to assemble now and can’t figure it out.
Sorry what to you mean by top pieces? Like the base to the umbrella or the top of the actual umbrella?
