Apologies for the rough editing, sound levels and general tardiness of this video, was feeling a little rough when I put it together! Anyhow, this video outlines the assembly process for the new Heltec T114 variant of my Nibbler case. Nice overview video, God bless.
My interest in Meshtastic has greatly diminished due to the constant updates and constant flood of new hardware. I'm happy to wait until the project is more baked and stable. I love your designs, you are very creative. Looking forward to seeing what you come out with in the future!!! I love my Bender with the rare IKB3D logo on the back! Its a collectors item for sure. ❤
I have been using the Heltec T114 for a couple of days now and I'm absolutely happy with it. I got it to replace my Heltec V3 HT slim pro with a 3000mah battery. It absolutely out last by battery and energy efficiency by far. My T114 is using a 2000mah battery and the alley chat T114 Pro case. Been rocking it for a couple of days and I have been absolutely happy with it. Downside is the v2 is now 902 to 928mhz it won't be too suitable when traveling in different countries using different frequency antennas anymore. Wish it was 868 to 928mhz like the v1 but it'll be fine it's been an absolute heck of an upgrade since. Now the heltec v3 does completely obsolete to me. 😂
just recieved mine (halfords guy) and put it together for my rak with flat batery. love it so far!
Thanks Simon, you’re obviously not simple 😉
The Flexo arrived today, I will assemble it in the next few days. Greetings from Germany
Great design. I may print my own. Does the switch need to be that switch?
The PCB containing the switch was custom designed and made by PCBway so yes the only way to get that is from me. That doesn't stop you printing it and seeing if you like it, you can in theory just hard wire the battery in as well and even blank off the switch hole in your slicer. Chucking me a few ££ for the switch though is preferred 😉
Hi Chris, Just was Wondering If You Going Add More Boards? Like the Heltec Wireless Tracker, I have a few of these. Also How Do we go about adding a GPS? I'd like to try using my RAK 4631 with the RAK12500 GPS. Thanks
Wireless tracker and T190 support is coming. The Rak front has a mount for the 12500 GPS, didn’t have it to hand when recording 🤦♂️
Wireless Tracker nearly done, will be live next week 👍
I look forward to it, then I Print It and Share To You. ❤ I contact you then regarding them Custom Switch as well. Thanks
Hi Chris (Jay here) Thanks for the assembly video, I Look forward to my 2nd attempt at assembling the Flexo case 😂
I really does help to have instructions sometimes 😆
@@zerofox3d 🤣Yep haha
Brilliant mate, there shouldnt be any doubt at all about how to put a Flexo together! Well done, i know hiw much hard work went into this👍🏻
The buttons on my own print don't come out very well defined/separated. Is there something I can change in my print settings?
There is less than 1mm between the button and the surround so you need a perfect first layer. So it’s worth just calibrating your first layer, no other setting will make much difference.
Love my bender cases, will deffo have to invest in a Flexo for my RAK19007 / RAK4631
Great design!
Huzzah! Looking forward to Heltec Tracker and Wireless Stick versions! Will there be a plug for solar for those boards that support it?
I considered adding a port with bung but honestly for those that want to tinker and add a solar panel it’s easy to just pop a small hole in the case. If solar charging ports were more common and reliable I’d have made it a feature and provided a panel.
This is brilliant 🤩
Woohoo! It's almost like Christmas recently in Meshtastic land, what with all the fun stuff in 2.5 and now new cases. Wall mount - um yes please. I can stop sitting my Bender on the handle of the bedroom window then haha.
That really is the canines testicles! I like the continuing evolution of this product. Keeps interest in mesh fresh. M.A.R.
You are awesome. Another cool product, and entertaining video too! Be well, my friend.
Excellent I got the digital Blender from you. I have a few Wireless Trackers that require a Case, be very keen and interested to try a Case for mine. Also have a few RAK 19007 too needing a new better case.
The video was meant to be private until I had all my ducks lined up but someone had a big mouth. The print files will be online with the hardware kits next week and I'll be working on the mounts for the other boards over the next few weeks. The boards with top mounted buttons are a little tricky to implement.
Absolutely brilliant!
Bender was great but locating the battery correctly was an issue - for my fat fingers anyway!
There is no back cover on Flexo, everything goes in from the front. It's pretty simple to put together really, assembly video will be out next week.
There's a version of a 18650 that has protection, but it's a tiny bit longer
The holder is a fair bit longer than a normal 18650, width would be the only issue.
Great ad video. Nice work. Smart design. I started with ZERO nodes around me and NOW there are dozens and dozens. All useless, pretty much, but building the infrastructure. Exciting stuff. Especially for me as a prepper.
Same here. What is your antenna setup? I'm exploring my options.
Ordered my Nibbler plus for Heltec v3 the other day and waiting for it to arrive. Question. Since there isn't a hard power switch, if I want to swap antenna, is it safe to do so after placing the Heltec into "shutdown" (eg. Pressing and holding the user-bottom button for 5+ seconds)?
Yep it shuts off the radio so safe to swap 👍
Did meshtastic add the t114 back into the flasher?
Last I heard it has a hardware flaw. I cancelled my order, fortunately before it shipped.
They diagnosed the issue and are replacing all existing units with a v2 shipping at the end of October. I’ve added info to the description of Bender/Nibbler T114 product pages 👍
@@zerofox3d excellent news! Thank you for the update. Looking forward to grabbing a V2
First.. I like the shorter antenna more 😉
I edited out me scrambling to grab an antenna as I completely forgot to have one to hand lol Apologies to David at PTPlace that I didn't grab one of his hehehe
@@zerofox3d I forgive you
Podaj link do projektu 3D ...😎 Dzięki
What a superb product, the quality of this is fantastic. Assembled mine in 2 mins. Brilliant price and service. If you have a Heltech V3 get this.
Thank you bud, appreciate it!
Those adapter cables are annoyingly hard to find, thanks for offering them.
Took me a lot of back and forth with a nice Chinese lady on AliB to get them made. I have about 2000 left 😆
you definitely have to adapt the cases for the new heltec t114 ;)
Bender T114 Edition goes public tomorrow. Nibbler is so tightly packaged though that I can’t find a way to fit the GPS module, scratching my head on that one. I have two new cases in the works though which will shake things up.
Just ordered the Andy Kirby special one! But I have one quick question - Will you be making a new front faceplate for the new T114? So if I upgrade to the Heltec T114 I can continue using my current case? :D
I finished the Bender T114 update yesterday (ssshhhhh) The T114 is a different form factor (it’s actually smaller) so it is not a drop in replacement sadly. The mount for the board in the body has to be changed (new body and face plate) The issue with Nibbler is it’s so tightly packaged the GPS won’t fit (99% sure) I’ll be looking closely at it this week, but look out for the T114 Bender launching this week 😉
@@zerofox3d That makes sense! But will keep an eye out for the bender case!! Looking forward to the Nibbler to arrive!:)
Just received my Bender case. Love it! Can't wait to assemble mine with a Heltec v3, Maker Focus 3000mah battery and a Neo6m GPS module.
Bit of double sided tape and the MakerFocus battery will be secure! 😁
👍👍
Bought the bender. Have one deployed at my parents and one out and about. I love it. They love it. Now I will have to buy this one as well, since the design is so well thought out and straight up beautiful/simplistic on the outside while still not appearing 3d printed /bodged together. Preordered a t-deck because the new UI is coming, they will be out of stock soon I think. Love that you also sell the files for a reasonable fee so we can print ourselves!
Amazing design. Excited to see what other sensor combos you come up with.
Awesome! Exactly what I’ve been looking for.
Is there a link for the speaker peice? I had a hard time looking for it
The speaker slots into a cut out on the mid chassis, there are also holes in the case to allow sound out.
I am new to Meshtastic. I just purchased some of the items that you have for sale. Looking forward to getting the devices assembled. Thank you!
I've been trying hard not to buy a t-deck but your not helping my will power! I have a few of your bender cases excellent workmanship
Is there space for the GPS module?
Depends on the battery used, both EEMB batteries fill it, the MakerFocus leaves enough room. I’m planning a different back plate that adds a top bump for a RushFPV GPS module.
@@zerofox3d Will updated versions be made available to people who purchased files to print their own?
@@tkerby When I upload updated files you’ll get a notification with download link 👍
@zerofox3d An M100 mini would be a great version too as they are cheap and small! I would bye the stls today I have 4 T-Decks!
What is the range of that internal antenna vs an external ?
Difficult to say but I have reached a node a mile away with the internal antenna. External will always be superior of course!
Good to see a new British company doing so well. Nice well thought out designs.
That's IMPRESSIVE!
Hi. Really nice project and well designed case. But I think that today hardly anyone wants to mount such large parts visibly in their home, especially when you see how small and inconspicuous some PIR devices today are (e.g. AQARA P1 Zigbee motion detector)... I think that in addition to functionalities, it would be necessary to also work on making the whole thing as compact as possible. Then it would certainly be a super successful sensor. If you could expand this into an all-in-one device, including HomeAssistant voice control, then it would be awesome ;) I'm excited to see what happens next with this project and I'll definitely follow it. Thumbs up and subscribed :) Thanks
The size was dictated by a couple of factors. Firstly using DuPont connectors which in theory makes the build easier. Second one is sensor accuracy, specifically temperature. Other popular sensors at the time I was developing this needed temp offset values specifying in the YAML because the heat from the ESP and other components caused the sensor to report incorrect values. Leela has several design choices to avoid this. It will never compete with Zigbee based sensors, they use much less power than ESP WiFi boards, but Leela is a fun project and can be built very cheaply 😁
Thanks for your answer. Yes, I am aware of these points. In terms of temperature development, ZIGBEE obviously has an advantage. To get this point under control with your combo sensor, I would consider decoupling the housing... In short: A component that generates heat and is mounted in a housing will heat up the housing over time and subsequently also its interior and a temperature sensor built into it. It is always disadvantageous if a temperature sensor and a component that generates heat are on the same mounting plate (here the half shell of the PIR housing). Over time, the heat will reach the temperature sensor, either via contact on the housing or via the heated interior air. I would store the temperature sensor in a separate small housing, decoupled from the main housing, in such a way that it is only connected to the main housing via very delicate (filligree) connections. These housing connecting elements should avoid heat conduction by using as little material as possible and also allow the energy to be released to the outside air (acting as a heat sink surrounded by outside air). Perhaps this theory will help a little.
Cool and all. But m8, where is the github-page for the esphome code?
The YAML for all the supported sensors is included in the files
Great Design....Now I must decide which ones or get both!!!!
thanks! from Indianapolis, IN!
$100.00 or a few once's of plastic.... no thanks
The cost is more than just plastic. It’s weeks of my time developing it. It’s the hardware which is included. It’s my Dad’s time preparing all the battery boxes and JST cables. My manufacturing partners time soldering all the cables. My wife’s time doing all the packaging. It’s the cost of building a print farm, renting an office, paying tax. There is profit, of course, but it’s not exorbitant and I have yet to receive a single complaint in over 1000 orders. Here’s an offer for you, buy one and if you don’t agree it was worth the cost I’ll refund it 😉
@@zerofox3d I do understand that being a 3d printer guy. But I still find it to be expensive. Add 25% for Canadian currency exchange and it's over the top
@@cukymonster33 Bender is 19.99 GBP, that’s 34 Canadian dollars. Add international shipping and tax (if you actually get charged) and the total should be under 60 Canadian, not sure how you get to 100 dollars. I sell the files for £9 too bye the way. I wish it could be cheaper but I have kids that demand food and I don’t own a cow. Of course you can just not buy it, free will is a wonderful thing! 😆 (Irony here is it was the badgering of a lovely Canadian chap that made me offer international shipping and dealing with the logistics in the first place 😂)
@@zerofox3d I'm so very sorry. I'm in Peru right now and the currency is in Peruvian Soles. For $1.00CDN you can buy almost 3 soles. I did not notice the posted currency. Makes more sense now ....
@@cukymonster33 Well that explains it 😂
Just built my six Benders and four Nibblers. The craftsmanship that went into these goes way beyond hobbyist, I'm impressed. I do have one question about the Nibblers though; without the Bender's convenient on/off switch, and given the Nibbler's built-in rechargeable battery, is it possible to turn the Nibbler off when not in use? My mesh is intended to be used as a backup comms network for my friends, family, and a few people in my neighborhood when the power/grid goes down. In Florida, it's an annual concern to prep for. Should I just let my Nibblers' batteries drain to dead and then recharge them when it's time to hand them out and use them?
Thanks my Magical Potato friend! There is a secret many don’t know… hold down the top button to soft shut down the Heltec. It’s not fully “off” like a power switch that cuts the battery connection but it does use little power in that state.
