Hi guys ,I have a Toyota Alphard the reinforcement bar was damaged in an accident..I wander if the repairs take the engine off before welding ?thanks in advance
Welding to rust... that will fix it
You guys still in business?
Probably not lmao
😮😮😮😮😮
Where u located
Really
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I have a 2018 F-150 5 liter with 30,000 miles on it. The frame and all body panels look like new with not a speck of rust anyplace. Since it lives in my garage, the sun has not oxidized any paint at all... it looks and drives like new. I live in Texas. ......
I have an inch hole on each side on the rear. Great video. I have lots of hope. First truck owner. In Pa
No sound?
I am sorry. For the most part it looks like you great work, this would be a great commercial for your business. But this is TH-cam and I live in Wisconsin and was looking for a more detailed walk through of the welding process. Did you have to cut out the entire peice you were replacing? Did you have to remove anything for safety reasons to accomplish the weld? Would you need to support both sides of the structure at the where you were doing the cut out and welding to maintain or realignment of the frame for the welding?
I would just sand it the best you can, paint then plate over the top. Cut out as little as possible. Beware of the gas tank especially if it is leaking fumes
This tutorial sucks, you have to completely remove the rust by cutting it out. Patching it over like he did will last a few years, but the rust will always creep back if you don’t fully remove it
Where you located?
I'm no expert - and I've never welded a thing. But my guess is, they wire brushed all the old rust off of the original frame before welding the patch, and then rustproof painted the whole repair. But that's just my guess. I believe he even said they would do so in the video.
Rick, can you please recommend someone similar to you in northern Illinois or southern Wisconsin. Thanks.
That's like putting a clean pair of underwear on over the stinky pair. They still stink ! 😱
I am attempting the same thing, but I have gas lines in the tank is still in place..Is it OK for me to still weld if covering up the lines and tank?
I wish you was in Albion MI. Ford should make their frames more rust resistant....pay a fortune for their product and no sooner you get it paid for...it starts falling apart.....is this intentional ?
Hey , where you located?
Rick (or anyone with professional experience), can you tell me if it is necessary to disconnect the negative terminal when welding on the frame if you keep the welding ground clamp near the weld?
Always always always disconnect the battery I do both terminals just to be sure to be sure
How much will it cost to fix a frame?
Hi, great channel. I've got a 99 chevy with a vertical crack. Would i use this same method, along with top and bottom supports? Or what would you reccomend exactly? Thanks
He didn't answer but that's what I did, unhook the battery before you weld on it. I found another truck frame very similar to my f350 that was still in good shape and cut pieces out of that for the steel stock. I cut out every comprised or thin area, grinded the surrounding metal really clean, held the new metal up and traced/cut out my pattern. I have a DC mig/Tig/stick welder and I used my mig to tack it in, then 6010 for the root weld, then 7018 over the 6010, 3/32 at around 70-80 amps worked good. I probably could have just mig welded the whole thing. Try not to weld big long continuous beads, I welded little 2in passes and hopped around so I didn't overheat the existing metal. Apparently some frames are a higher carbon heat treated steel and can crack or fail if heated too much. 🤷 Good luck hope this helps someone. ALSO MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE TO SUPPORT YOUR FRAME IN MULTIPLE AREAS BEFORE CUTTING PIECES OUT. This is critical, I jacked mine until everything was straight and factory looking again, then replaced pieces. (Jack's on both sides of the crack)
@shootinfromthehip1973 can't I send you some pics, of my frame and get your opinion?
As someone with over 35 years experience working as a designer in mechanical engineering as well as being a machinist, and possessing some welding skills, I recognize a knowledgeable professional when I hear one and Rick seems to be just that.
then youd know welding steel over rusted steel will make the rust go 10x faster and worse, ive repaired "repairs" like this
Fake ass comment. I bet your his buddy haha
Hey I'm Paul, I've got some serious questions to ask. I know it's the holiday weekend. I'm not computer savvy. How can we talk?
Good, there's hope for my Colorado then!
It'll be cheaper to just buy a welder and rig it up yourself. Definitely get better results as well
Sure, this is something just about any hack can do right? Wrong! You first had better learn how to weld from an experienced instructor, and practice until your are making strong welds. You better learn the importance of proper fit-up, joint preparation, the importance of good joint penetration, and a lot more that the average hack takes for granted.
This is NOT something any idiot can do with a harbor freight welder....this is Very dangerous shit....theres a lot more physics and metallurgy going on than meets the eye.
@@hootinouts Have any advice for new DIY welders? I have a precious vehicle that means a lot but there’s some spots here and there. Shops either charge out of my budget or won’t do it.
🤘🏻
Yea just weld a plate right over rusty metal so the new price can rust from the inside out lol..
everyone like a little ass...no one likes a smart ass....
Yep
The car will probably break down before that happens, but on vehicles that will last a while I will plate it then paint it thick with rust inhibitor and put another plate that covers a larger area over that
That's how it works bud
Where your location? Are you locate in Florida?
NEW YORK!!!
I am looking to have to do that same patch in the exact same place. My question is: What electrical parts do you guys disconnect from your trucks (if any) before welding on them. Thanks!
Just disconnect the battery to be safe and keep the neg cable of the welder close to where you are welding so as not to send current through areas that can be cooked.
Well thats an illegal repair. Go take an I-car class or get licensed period! before you kill someone!
Where r u located
See the Facebook link
The old should’ve been cut out or the old will continue to rust and cause the new plate to swell out
That truck will be at the crusher before that happens. It's the rust belt, and they accept that vehicles have a very finite lifespan.
@@ShainAndrews exactly. Might as well leave any of the old in there for any added strength it might add if any.
@@SlickArmornope. It will trap even more moisture and speed up rusting on the original frame as well as the patch.
@@ShainAndrews This is not the proper way to repair a rust damaged frame on any vehicle. If you’re charging people to repair something, do it the correct way. This weld on patch will cause more moisture to be trapped in that area and speed up the rusting on the original frame as well as the patch. Yea, on an older truck, this repair may outlive the truck, but trucks with a longer life span, it’s going to be worse later.
@@YT-User1013 Today... I have zero fucks to give you.
Moisture will get under that and corrode it from underneath.
I will happily pay you tomorrow for a cheese burger 🍔 today, Here at Rick's welding.

@@mikem5475 It's Wimpy from Popeye, it was his trademark catchphrase
I wish you guys was here in Michigan.
LOL no you don't, this repair was hack and improper.
@RichardHeadGaming You're not too bright and clearly have never done this kind of work. That repair will last longer than the rest of the truck.
Вот залипуха
You here in texas?
It will last as long as that truck will be around great job.
What's the progress of this build some more videos on this would be awesome and helpful I'm building something similar to this and I need advice

I might have to drive out to you guys. haha.
this is awesome work - keep it up - from Minnesota. thanks
Hi Ricks Welding I have a Jeep TJ which I’m sure your familiar with.. Do you install Safe T caps frame sections?
Cool video. Thanks for the upload. Exactly what I need done. I was wondering if this was possible and still be able to afford. For someone to do a good enough job, so that it looks factory and passes an inspection must take some time and cost a fair amount of money. How much does the repair in this video cost?
only 2thousands bucks
how you know that?
Your probably not too far off unfortunately
I have a 03 d150 with a cracked frame what does it cost for your type repair?
Not it’s ok it’s fixing
Outstanding!
