Puyallup Pinks
Back out on the Puyallup with my brother, Jalil. We slayed all morning and left with a bag full for the freezer. Good company, fun times, great memories.
In this video I was running a 15lb florocarbon bumper from my 30lb braid. I had a 3/4 ounce rubber coated cannonball weight connected to a two-way snap-swivel. Off of that I ran 12lb mono for my leader with a #4 red Beau Mack hook with a pink corky and pink yarn in the egg loop. I had an 8”6’ Okuma Cililo with an Abu Garcia RevoMax bait caster. I drifted my setup to about 45 degrees past my left shoulder (the direction of the flow) before reeling back in after casting straight out in front of me to nearly the opposite side of the river. I pretty much hooked up on a fish every few casts once I found my rhythm. I kept tension on my line throughout the drift and due to how light my rod is and my gear is, I could feel every bump along the bottom of the river. As soon as I felt a slight tug different from the normal bounce or suddenly the gear stopped moving I would gently pull back on my rod while reeling down to set the hook. No need to try to rip it back like a lot of guys are doing out there. If you do this right you should be nailing them in the side of the mouth nearly every single time or right on the tip of their lip where they are biting down on the hook.
FYI: I name this river because it is not a secret as you can see from the video.

Late Fall Steelhead in the PNW
มุมมอง 421ปีที่แล้ว
As the first snow ❄️ starts to fall in the Pacific Northwest, the pursuit of steelhead picks back up. As the first winter run begins and the chrome ones begin to enter the river systems from the ocean, there still remain some decent holdovers from the summer run that are fun to catch. In this episode, my brother Jalil finally gets his first steelhead and it’s a dandy. We were helping a fellow a...

The Green: Chum Run 2022
มุมมอง 1.3Kปีที่แล้ว
The Chum run on the Green River begins yearly just as fall is setting in and lasts through November. Just as the frost starts to set in is usually the best time to be out there on the river. Once these salmon begin to make it up through the higher part of the system, they have been in the river for a while and become increasingly aggressive. They will attack just about anything that gets near t...

Another beautiful fall 🍂day in the Pacific Northwest 🍁 Some of the best rivers in Washington State are operated by Native American Tribes. As inheritors of a sacred legacy, they do an amazing job of keeping the rivers healthy and stocked with millions of Salmon and Steelhead. The only way non-Natives can access some of these fisheries is with the support of Native guides. We have been fortunate...
Twitching Fall COHO

The rain 🌧 has finally arrived in the Pacific Northwest. After historic heat and a dry streak that has lasted longer than any of us thought could last, the rain we have all been waiting for has finally pushed the COHO up into the the tributaries of the mighty western Washington rivers. And these silvers are biting like crazy. In this episode we are out on the river tossing jigs. When there are ...
Fall Chum: Bobber Down!

Went back out to the river after all the recent flooding. I had just under an hour to check things out. I wanted to see if the water level had dropped enough to get bank access and see if there were still Salmon. The CHUM were stacked and bitting like crazy! We weren’t planning on really shooting anything today, but the bite was too good.

    Toward the end of last pinks season, I hooked a huge chinook... just before bringing it up to those same rocks... it gave one last thrash, and not only did it break my line, but it broke my pole. I didn't get mad. It made me fall in love with this spot even more.

    Day 2 of Seeking Summer Steelhead. Was blessed to shake hands with this beautiful specimen . 35 inch buck peeled drag so hard I thought my trusty Abu Garcia Revo was going to explode. We duked it out for several long minutes before he let me get a few cool pictures and shots with him. He wasn’t clipped so I sent him back up the river. #summersteelhead #streelheadcandy for the dandy.

    Summer Steel in the early Spring is always a special treat in the PNW🏔️. Special shoutout to @camologan12 and @northamericantarp. Years ago Logan gifted me the bag featured in this video. It was the original Rugged Made ™️ 🦾prototype for a line of the worlds best quality Fish Kill bags. I own their large bag as well and have used it well over the years and it still feels brand new. If you’re local you can find the entire Rugged Made ™️🦾 Fish Kill bags @bobssportinggoods or go online to Ruggedmadeusa.com or Northamericantarp.com

    • @salmonseeker1202
      @salmonseeker1202 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is the West Seattle bridge behind us. I use a heavier main line off of bridges and piers, usually 50-65lb braid. On my leaders I use 12-15 for pinks and sometimes 20-30lb floro for my bumper and 8-12lb floro on my leader.

      I’ve been up to the Skagit a few times in the past couple months. It’s been lit. Coho everywhere. My buddies have been slaying on the Nooksack. Even without much rain, the fish are there. It just takes more effort to get them to bite. For that reason, until now it’s been pretty much a hardware game all season

  • @hypershadows5374
    @hypershadows5374 ปีที่แล้ว

    It sucks that most fish are dark already. Have you seen any chrome fish? I caught my limit at Cascade today but all of them didn’t cut well. I got desperate because the rain finally made them not jaw locked anymore. At least it was fun and I got eggs and crab bait.

    • @salmonseeker1202
      @salmonseeker1202 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah brother, it’s been a wild season so far for sure. There is still fresh silvers rolling through. However, it is getting late in the season, particularly for the northern tributaries where the runs are nearly over. But there is still some good fish to be had if you’re willing to travel around a bit.

    • @salmonseeker1202
      @salmonseeker1202 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was on the Upper Skagit. They are not locked up there. Plenty of action! Try spinners and spoons when the coho are fresh in the system and float bait after they’ve been in a while.

      @hypershadows5374 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@salmonseeker1202 thanks! I didn’t mention the rivers because some people don’t like that in their comment section. The second river that I was referring to was the Stilly.

    • @salmonseeker1202
      @salmonseeker1202 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hypershadows5374 it seems the silvers have been locked up all over. This seems to be more common when the pinks are not running. I’ve noticed this for also two years ago. Perhaps without the presence of all the pinks, the silvers are less aggressive? I’m not sure. It also may be the weather. We have had almost no rain this month. Usually salmon rely on the rain to make their push up into whatever system they are entering and then relax a bit and tend to take bait much easier. I’m not a marine biologist so I really don’t know exactly. We’ll figure it out.
