    Hi, thanks for the video. Interesting points. I have found that RDT isn't needed (it made no difference to my retention and static) and if you do away with that the issue you mention of beans sticking to the anti-popcorn forks almost disappears completely. Similarly, when adjusting the grind setting it's fine with the grinder off and if it's on then a gentle push of the bellows sorts it out (the noise/tightness) as it's caused by air flow, given how tightly engineered it is - appreciate you don't like bellows. You may also want to remove the adjustment collar if you don't like the look, you don't need it unless you are switching burrs. I used to have a Eureka grinder, so this thing is next level for me!

    • @SteveHowkins
      @SteveHowkins หลายเดือนก่อน

      Now the burrs have settled a little I may grind a few doses without RDT and see what happens. Anything to reduce the workflow is good thing to me. That’s true. Didn’t think it could be the moisture! That’s for the info on the noise. No damage being caused then, excellent. I did think about removing it but then there will be a mark from the grub screw (to be expected) and seeing that will annoy me haha.

      @briantaylor1595 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @SteveHowkins yeah, the collar doesn't look great but it doesn't bother me really - to your point on the finishing, it's a shame they didn't make the collar or the fixing mechanism a bit cleaner!

    1 Key spec that gets overlooked often, specially on "stepless" is the adjustment "intervals". not sure the term, but how minor of a adjustment does it make when you make the least change. Some good ones are at .05 um /micrometer

    • @SteveHowkins
      @SteveHowkins 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not bothering at all. So the pressure changes but I don’t think the flow rate does. That is dependant on the grind. So at 77 in order to get a 9 bar shot I had to grind finer than at 87 as the machine was doing the work there. If you want 6/7 bar shots then yes use a lower pp and grind the same. Hey man, great video. I've been watching your videos about the dual boiler for a while now and I really like them. Ive got one here myself as well and I had a lot of hesitation when It came to opening it up and voiding the warranty. I just wanted to say that if I could give you one piece of advice is just go for it.. .adjusting the OPV to 9bars its extremely easy and once you've done that, you have so much freedom to play around with pre infusion time and pressure before even getting to 9bar full pump pressure... It will open a whole new world for you!! I know voiding the warranty is not ideal but the reality is that if you take good care of your machine, chances are your machine will live way past the warranty period anyway with no issues. regards from Australia.

      @@SteveHowkins It's a used grinder. I've had it for a year, and it's basically loaned to me. I have no idea if the previous owner ever cleaned it. I've never cleaned it, and I use it once a day to make an espresso. I have no tools -- if they came with the Niche, they weren't passed on to me. I'm not a mechanic, so I'm not the sort of person who dismantles engines and knows how to put everything back together again successfully. Assembling IKEA furniture is hard enough! And yes, the grind setting is currently at 7 (out of 50 possible settings) and I think it still might not be fine enough, so the espresso pours in 12 seconds with no crema now. I thought maybe cleaning might help, but I'm afraid I'll be unable to reassemble it. I also tried to recalibrate the Niche without cleaning it, but that made it even worse. @@SteveHowkins No, I don't want 12-second espressos. I'm not sure what's wrong. Could be the espresso machine or it could be the grinder or both. I still haven't gotten the courage to try dismantling the grinder. I'm the sort of person who can't even refold a map properly without getting it all bunched up.

      Is that apple or android app? I used apple App Store with no issues but I have to say I’ve not used the device for some time so the developers may have changed bits or ran into some issues with releasing updates. I would reach out to them for further troubleshooting. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

    Thanks for your review. I wanted to upgrade to this one from a Sage Barista that served me quite well the last couple of years. I'm getting more serious about coffee and that machine just didn't cut it any more. Then last week someone offered me his complete setup for a bargain, consisting of a Baratza Sette 270 and an ECM Casa V. The grinder is awesome, but the machine is actually kind of scary to use. My morning coffee routine turned into kind of a job really and I'm not sure if I like it. It's definitely more of an occasion and the built quality and general feel is in a completely different league, but I do miss the ease-of-use that Sage provides. Let's see how it works out.

    Crap. It's less quality then the tamron in image quality and it's got no VC or OSS. And it's not even a linear motor system and the Tamron has weather sealing and VC

    Just remove the group head shower screen and see that melting, flaking, pealing coating. It's common with every Breville Dual Boiler and they are saying it's cosmetical. I dont think so! This issue it's been for years and they do nothing about that. I just sandpaper mine completely. I'm so disappointed..

    • @SteveHowkins
      @SteveHowkins 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes mine has that too. I think there has to be a compromise somewhere for the price. Has it made a tangible difference to your coffee as you say it’s more than cosmetic. I have noticed no difference at all.
