Cotswold Stories - Preface
มุมมอง 1597 ปีที่แล้ว
This is the introduction to a collection of stories I have written set in The Cotswolds, spanning from early last century to the present. The stories are varied in theme and character, but all have a moral drawn upon the suffering of life. The term suffering is not solely confined to the negative but pertinent of raw experience, which can often present rich and rewarding prospects. we all learn...

Nostalgic Variations (Reflections on Times Past)
มุมมอง 517 ปีที่แล้ว
Scenes from Gloucester, the Cotswolds, Bath, Weymouth, Abingdon, Oxford & others. The following is taken from the poem Nostalgic Variations which I wrote as a reflection on the past with the beckoning promise of autumn ahead. As mellow autumn turns the deciduous trees to flame, With its mild winds and abundant fruitfulness, And ripened crops stand in awe of a plentiful harvest, Older folk take ...

ENO version of Street Scene by Kurt Weill, starring Lesley Garrett.
Der Vampyr, Marschner
มุมมอง 296K7 ปีที่แล้ว
This is an erotic English soap-opera version of Heinrich Marschner's famous work The Vampire. I am sure this will attract mixed reviews, and I am not going to pretend that this kind of modern reworking of the story and script does the overall justice, but it does bring a long neglected work to public recognition and that is no bad thing!
Dancing Years (TV Studio Version) Ivor Novello
มุมมอง 13K7 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a full length studio version of of The Dancing Years by Ivor Novello probably dating from late 1970s or early 80s, and starring the late Anthony Valentine. Ivor Novello shows are sadly neglected today and in need of revival.

Who is the hilarious Irish actor he is superb
How splendid to have a complete version of this great musical preserved. It shows how important and impressive the original show was and the cast here are rather better than the shortened film version that stays clear of the Nazi themes so central to the proper production. What great tunes! If you find one memorable number in most modern stage musicals you are lucky. And what heart there is too! Ivor Novello was such a talented man. If you search around on the web you may find a remastered version of this for sale on two DVDs.
A very well made video, thank you.
😢😢😢 Sad Movies always make me cry 😭😭😭
A beautifully researched and lovingly presented documentary . Thank you ❤

Thank you so much for this wonderful movie. So many memories of when I was in the show playing Greta. The music is beyond compare!! ❤️❤️
Absolute classic ❤
The acting in this is great, as are the accents!
Well, except for Rose, who seems to slip up every other sentence…

It was a great pleasure to interview Marilyn Hill Smith on my radio show Theatre Nights some years ago. A lovely lady and a talented one. Her rendition of Glitter and be Gay I will never forget on BBC TV. Her wish was to play Mimi. I adore Dancing Years.

Is the background music at the beginning Dvorak? It works really well.. lol

Saw this production back in the late '80's..tremendous score and excellent production.
Thank you so much for sharing/archiving this for all of us. My favorite author of all time. God bless~
A gripping account I loved it.
I know it's not exactly relevant, but anyone else also finds the narrator looks/sounds like Hugh Grant?
Bravo Bravo Bravo!!
i ♥ Lullaby
An enchanting masterpiece of the past.
I envy Britain for producing few of the best novelist and story writers in history.
The attempt to claim Hardy for nationalist propaganda purposes after his death, when he was rubbished in life, is disgusting. If I were Hardy I would have stipulated in my will that is was my express will that my corpse not be used for any such monstrously demagogic purposes.
Thank you very much
I have been obsessed with this folk opera for years!
"Studio version" and in English reminds me of Donald Pippin's Pocket Opera. Even with English, I need the subtitles to understand much of the lyrics!
The antidote to the trash of today - thx so much - perhaps I'll plan a visit and pay my respects to his cottage. I always liked his - and D. H. Lawrence's - writings. Danke schoen ... :-))

The narrator totally ignores the fact that that Women's emancipation was established when Hardy wrote these so called 'risky' as if Hardy was some sole pioneer of a new take on women. The Women's emancipation had started in the US IN 1848 and came to Europe shortly after. They needed to no help from male writers to feel freed of old restrictions...Old photos show women walking in the streets unaccompanied . Women openly had lovers and so on. Men like Hardy, frequently used their wives...then dumped them emotionally . Gainsborough did the same.
Thank you so much.. Hardy is my heart beat..I love his writings ❤️❤️❤️
A great performance my friend Tom Lawlor. Rest in peace
38:30 just saving this scene for myself to rehearse lol
Oh wow I remember this being on Tv some years ago. I'll enjoy this. Thank you.
Zum Traeumen schoen !
Really very nice. I grew up with the 1956 Met english version with Cyril Ritchard as the viceroy. They did it again a few years later and it was broadcast in the 50's in the program Omnibus. I am waiting until they release it to TH-cam, it is marvelous.
That is the version I came looking for!
