Wonderland In Miter Basin
Join me as I head into the MAGICAL Miter Basin. This was originally planned as a 3 or 4 day trip but I turned it into an overnighter for reasons that will become apparent in the video. Still what an AMAZING place. If you're thinking about going to the Miter Basin check out my video. It'll convince you to go.

This is a 4 day trip from Pine Creek Trailhead over Italy Pass, White Bear Pass, Feather Pass, and Pine Creek Pass. Along the way I climb Mt. You should go for it! Definitely! Being a strong hiker will be a major factor. Durability is even more important. If/when I do it again, I'll be planning for fewer daily miles. Maybe I'll get up later and get to camp by 3 but that additional rest will help me avoid overuse injuries that seemed to pile up on me by the final few days. Next year I'm planning to do the SHR. Been dreaming of that for a few years now. That'll be a big test but the learnings from the JMT will be with me.

    I think we must have missed each other by a week or so. In late July I did a clockwise version of a very similar loop, adding the Royce Lakes but skipping the section you did between Italy Pass and White Bear Pass by doing the boulder-hopping traverse from Dancing Bear to Italy. First time in Bear Lakes Basin for me, and I'm already planning how to get back. It's hard to describe just how deeply that place affected me -- I'm glad to hear you had a similar experience of it. Thanks for the beautiful footage!

    • @wellseasonedhiker
      @wellseasonedhiker 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, Dancing Bear is the fast way in/out. I chose the long way around intentionally because I wanted to check out White Bear Pass and because I wanted to see Lake Italy again. Bear Lake Basin has always been a magical place for me. I had a number of fond visits there in my teen years. Glad you appreciated the video and that you feel the same about the basin. Hopefully the video brought back memories for you. 🙂

    • @taylorbrady1424
      @taylorbrady1424 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@wellseasonedhiker I managed to make Dancing Bear longer and much more difficult than it needed to be -- probably would have done just as well going via White Bear and not letting the minor infamy of that one scare me off. Somehow in the course of repeating to myself on the way up "as you approach White Bear Lake, turn north and ascend a grassy ramp", I managed to turn it into "when you REACH White Bear Lake, turn north." The problem is that, by the time you've gone through that rock-walled chute down to the lakeshore, the only ascending route is up a very steep, very crumbly scree-and-sand slope with a lot of exposure and not much solid rock -- at the top of which, you look to your right and immediately see the 100% walkable ramp you could have ascended had you turned a hundred yards earlier. Lesson learned...

      Yeah, the melt is nearing it's end but still full streams everywhere. Feet were wet quite often. 🙂

    I never tire of seeing and experiencing the Sirrea 😊 Beautiful hike you had, and I enjoyed the scenery along the way. I just love hearing the constant sound of running water up there 😊

    Wow this is so Professionally executed! Especially for a backpacking scenario. Was it difficult to get a pass to get into these areas? Great music selection as well.

      Thanks for the kind comment. It is difficult to get a permit into Cottonwood because JMT folks suck em up. But Cottonwood Lakes is amazing!!! Just keep trying and you'll get a permit. Takes patience.
