We had learned that the NEC were building Frames in a part of Caprice's largest city, named Gommorah. My task in mission 15 was to sneak into Gommorah by the underground cave system. To avoid being discovered, I was restricted to only using hand-to-hand weapons. I donned my vibro axe and went into the caves.

It's a great game, so far. I like the sound and feel of the weapons.
Nice. Remembe that you can slightly modify your Gear's stats to gain more speed, maneuverability, etc.
Yeah, I will need to learn the customization system soon. It's far different the Mechwarrior games.
HG2 is easier to run, using the repack. I think it's generally more enjoyable, but the story feels a bit less personal.

One of the best games I ever played. Back when it first came out.. and I loved it so much that I learned to play it on my laptop - without a mouse or joystick, just keyboard and touchpad. Those who know the control schema for MW2:M will appreciate the dedication.

After figuring out a way to play this in 2024 I'm trying to figure out how to speedrun it.. it's got some fatal glitches that make me think it's impossible to get consistent playthroughs. By what methods do you run this game?
I installed it using the free utility, MechVM. Then, I ran the DOS version within the utility.

what windows 98 emulator are you using?
It's called PCEM, and emulates a period gaming PC, PII 300 Mhz and Voodoo 3 card.
@@LiverbestGibs Thanks! I think a year ago I tried this emulator using a tutorial I found here on TH-cam but it didn't work, I also tried with virtual machines but I was never able to get this game working, not even with the patches for windows 10 that are in reddit community.
I bought my first computer with a "military grade" hard drive (9GB) just for this game. $1,500 for it in 95.
God!!! This was the first PC game i played back in the late 90s, it ran like shit on the family PC. Plus using a mouse and keyboard from an 3 button Sega Genesis controller was rough. If memory serves me right this game is AbandonWare now.

Well, now I know. I have a lot to learn about Heavy Gear.
@@LiverbestGibs One thing that might really help your playthrough is to familiarize yourself with the weapon codes. LMG and HMG only work against infantry, HGM is a very powerful indirect fire mortar that is good against light vehicles but requires you to lock on. Heavy Gear is very much rock-paper-scissors… certain weapons are designed to work well against certain enemy targets. The Mammoth's ATM for example is a very powerful guided anti-tank missile, but it requires you to lock on first or else it really isnt going to do anything useful.
