so one scene I remember from this anime was the guillotine scene, where 3 criminals were to be beheaded: one who was framed, one who stole bread for his family and a crazed mass murderer. Then the count laments about their crimes, then makes this kid pick a card out of 3, each representing one of the criminals, not knowing which represents who since they were shuffled or something (I was 7 okay). After the kid picks the card representing the serial killer, an official appears with a pardon letter from the king for the serial killer, so the kid watches in horror as the mass murderer is pardoned, proud of his kills, while the other two are squirming, crying, begging and what not until they're finally beheaded
