Music is my biggest love, I also love anime and Gankutsuou is one of the most magical. Art transcends the human experience, it's refreshing to know that whenever you become bogged down with life's bullshit there will be the fallback of others who have put their heart into a work of shared experience.
@AvatarYoda I liked the lack of bean swords and laser cannons. They may use that in their military use, but these guys are nobility; they're probably trying to keep that classic dignity combined with the battle armor that they were trained with. It was a nice touch and I'm happy that they didn't have a bunch of "we're in robots" kind of scenes. It was treated as any old suit of armor.
I also was startled at the inclusion of mecha in episode 18, but was pleasantly surprised at how well it was pulled off. They used mecha with the same dignity and seriousness that people in the past would have used with sabres and pistols. In the future, we use robots instead of guns and swords for duels. It's normal to them and they treat it as such. And the episode itself, especially the second half, was something special.
I loved this show! Y_Y Poor Edmund. I wish he had been Albert's dad but then that would have been a gag moment for me since the show was gong in the direction of secret lovers. I'll just read the book for the family ties. This song didn't fit the show until the end then it was like "OH! THIS SONG IS PERFECT FOR THIS SHOW"
That style of writing is called tragedy. It is usually not popular among people who want to use media as an escape from the harshness of reality, but it could be if they let it.
@Ericanious : I have to agree especialy from the episodes where he really dished out cold, hard,f***nuttery revenge every time the song starts at the beginning it sounds so derisive hypocritical so aaaargh i can't find the right words to describe it
in the beginning of the anime i cracked jokes about how albert's gay for the count, but as the series progressed i realized how serious he was about the man. it nearly broke my heart. the count used him, destroyed his life, stole his innocence, and intended to kill him, yet albert still chased after him not out of vengeance, but with an open heart. ive never seen a character in an anime with such love, such conviction, and for someone enslaved by hatred. he may have loved him more than eugenie.
when I first heard this opening, I didn't like it, but I secretly knew I would fall in love with if IF I liked the anime. WELL I now absolutely love it. After watching some of the tragic episodes I now spontaneously burst into tears when I hear this song. Gah I'm such a sappy girl lol
I love this song *u* When I heard this song, it feels like I was sailing on a ship right when the sun was setting. How beautiful the gleaming sparkling orangeish ocean would be. Oh, and don't forget the wind! It adds to the Titanic-effect ;D
@MasakakiC Thanks for the advice, I did listen to the lyrics and really did have a very very different feeling about this song. I just love to feel it my way. That's not a problem, isn't it?
I agree with the robots part thingy you mentioned, it was going so, so well until that part... but you know, just a clarification, cause I'm OBSESSED with the novel, in the book Albert is NOT Edmond's son, and there is not fight between them, you probably saw the 2002 movie which completely destroyed the story! :p so I had to clarify that because it was obscene for me :p
@DanJun009 FYI, I did. It's just my impression about the whole song elements; the melody, mood, rythm... It's somehow romantic if you hum it! Did you have any problem with the freedom of expression???
Hermoso tema compuesto el gran Burnel, lider inmortal de The Stranglers, aunque es extraño que no haya sonado su bajo destructivo y caracteristico de el. Gram tema
***** Im not saying its some great composition or a masterpiece or anything. I just personally like the song because of the emotions i feel when i hear it with that voice. Nostalgia plays a large role especially.
+Kimberly Dutton have you ever seen Gankutsuou ? the anime is great but it has many feels... Even If you have never seen in your life anime you will love it ! :D you will see the lyrics different.. This song is a sad song not happy...
@CountessOfPluto & gankutsuou, as a fan of the book you should be stoked! it kept every single plot point down to minutia that would be tossed out on a screenplay, villeforts old house & son, Caderousse, etc., if anything it was the closest to the book anyones gotten yet, the only new things were aesthetics, & it kept Albert unrelated, since that upset you so much. if you're really going to toss out such a legitimate adaptation based purely on the manner in which they dueled, i feel sorry for ya
By the way does anyone know where I can get this song online??? I have looked for the actual cd but I can't find it anywhere where I live, and I really want it!!!! :(
@crimsontowers Ehm... you CAN have plenty of Japanese tales without mecha :p And yes, that is exactly my point, it IS the best adaptation I've ever seen, which is funny in a way, I just didn't really like the duel part, it seemed kind of pointless and forced, but that is my opinion. I love this anime anyway and I do know it's got more good things than bad things, which is why it is one of my favorites.
Fauno, Dantes did what he wanted until it fully took him over, so Dantes is the badass, and the demon just gave him the power to escape and not die. Everything else was Edmond. So you are wrong.
FUCKING MASTERPIECE.
Just finished watching Gankutsuou for the 2nd time and it's still a masterpiece. Can't wait to read the book too!
makes me sad thinking about Edmond Dantes while hearing this :'(
You Greek?? And you’ve seen this!!
coming back after a long time still a masterpiece
Music is my biggest love, I also love anime and Gankutsuou is one of the most magical. Art transcends the human experience, it's refreshing to know that whenever you become bogged down with life's bullshit there will be the fallback of others who have put their heart into a work of shared experience.
the best story ever 💗

I have to admit, I randomly burst out singing, "YOU AND I WERE LOOOOOOOVERSSSS!" at inappropriate times. Gotta love this song.
best anime ever
This song, because of the piano, made me love classical music AS WELL AS dubstep and screamo.
This song is so sad I love it Everytime I hear it it makes me cry 😢
This is actually Frederick Chopin's E Major etude :)
thanks I've always wanted to here the paino alone
I always thought I know this piece from somewhere else but I couldn't find. Thank you, thank you!
It makes me so sad that Geneon published this series and the few remaining copies are well out of my price range...
This song is just so awesome like the anime
Una hermosa canción!
This is a truely beautiful song! :)
so much love
i wanna hug you and lick your lipps
sexual harassment.

even though the singing isn't all that i actually really like this song and can appreciate the words and what it could mean... kinda touching. :'(
it feels me with joy but yet depressing.. i love it!!
This and Casino Royale are the best intro songs ever.
So interesting how even when the count of Monte Cristo is a story of vengeance this piece of music brings peace to your mind in such an amazing way.
ty for uploading this great song!
This is the best anime I have seen in a long time and the music really helped that. All of the OST is great.
essa música é linda...
This anime made me bawl all over the place. It's so great, but I can't watch it anymore, it's so sad.
I love how shounen-ai saves the day though.
Hermosa melodia, hermosa serie.
moi j'aime aussi Gankutsuou c'est mon prefere personnage.
lindo d+, tanto a musica quanto o anime
i loved this song ever since i saw the last episode of the anime
just amazing.
good series
i loved this song the first time i heard it.
Oh, beautiful...
Very nice song!
I know, I never listened to anything like it before and yet I fucking fell in love with it!
I loved this show! Y_Y Poor Edmund. I wish he had been Albert's dad but then that would have been a gag moment for me since the show was gong in the direction of secret lovers. I'll just read the book for the family ties.
This song didn't fit the show until the end then it was like "OH! THIS SONG IS PERFECT FOR THIS SHOW"
I think it's funny how he keeps saying nothing can go wrong. But I dont think one character ended up alright 😂😂😂
That style of writing is called tragedy. It is usually not popular among people who want to use media as an escape from the harshness of reality, but it could be if they let it.
the best anime i ever saw T_T song makes me cry..

@Ericanious :
I have to agree
especialy from the episodes where he really dished out cold, hard,f***nuttery revenge

This song is very beautiful!
It gets better... Think of it as the calm before the storm
Damn this song fits in perfectly
when I first heard this opening, I didn't like it, but I secretly knew I would fall in love with if IF I liked the anime. WELL I now absolutely love it. After watching some of the tragic episodes I now spontaneously burst into tears when I hear this song. Gah I'm such a sappy girl lol
經典 平實中那淡淡哀愁 總在憶起往事
再度被吹醒 但這次特別深刻
因為一切都將.....
I love this song *u*
When I heard this song, it feels like I was sailing on a ship right when the sun was setting. How beautiful the gleaming sparkling orangeish ocean would be. Oh, and don't forget the wind! It adds to the Titanic-effect ;D
I love this song... so much!!!
I'm so glad you agree sir.
Because the book is in the public domain, you can get the ebook for free at Project Gutenberg (along with lots of other classics).
I love this song.
I'm the same way, I used to hate this song and skip it all the time... then I found myself singing it randomly.
@MasakakiC Thanks for the advice, I did listen to the lyrics and really did have a very very different feeling about this song. I just love to feel it my way. That's not a problem, isn't it?
feeling the beautiful soft music then 0:32 came and am like O_O
Amazing!
Farewell song etc.
It is a concerto to Random Harvest.
Thank you good-bye ....
So Nostalgic
Beauty
Cool
I believe you're right. It sounds like Brunel took the motif right from "Tristesse."
masterpiece anime
Such a great song...
too good its been a long time
Beatiful^^
thanks for uploading!! 11/10 ^.^
still the best song for me!!
The melody, I believe it's chopins etude no. 3 tristesse... the two sound very similar
I cry every time I hear this
Are there any anime out there that are just as good as this one? I really need to know cause I absolutely loved this!
Monster is pretty good.
Lucas Quirino I have watched that a while ago. I also enjoyed that quite a lot :)
have you ever seen kino no tabi?
Lucas Quirino I have not.
Havndrup
short answer no. but their is what can be in the same stand like treasure Island, sanshiro, the mysterious cities of gold...etc
@DanJun009 FYI, I did. It's just my impression about the whole song elements; the melody, mood, rythm... It's somehow romantic if you hum it! Did you have any problem with the freedom of expression???
Thx for the warning. Saved me from being spoiled
Tristesse - Chopin
boa musica, otimo anime.
good music , great anime
@Windofscarblade I know he's not his son in the anime, I was talking about the book.
Pretty unique opening.
magnifique *o*
Great song 👌👌👌👌👌✌
@FerraraLolyta OHSHIT! The count doesn't die in the book!! OMG! You have just inspired me to read it :D
I have a feeling this song would be infinitely better in french
a musica é xoxita mas é brutal sim senhora ^^
Watch It....There will then be no need to explain...
I love the song and all but I wonder why he ain't hitting the notes?
This song would sound wrong without the mistakes. DOn't kid me. Seriously that's the point. He's meant to be a normal person like any other.
***** Im not saying its some great composition or a masterpiece or anything. I just personally like the song because of the emotions i feel when i hear it with that voice. Nostalgia plays a large role especially.
He’s not hitting the notes? You mean the notes he wrote?
6 people betrayed the count.
Made me smile
+Kimberly Dutton have you ever seen Gankutsuou ? the anime is great but it has many feels... Even If you have never seen in your life anime you will love it ! :D you will see the lyrics different.. This song is a sad song not happy...
Emond isn't Albert's father in the book either.
such a sad story...
The anime was nice, i just found stupid that they decide to put Edmond ''cellmate'' as some sort of alien demon instead of Abbé Faria.
Who is here from Gigguk?
Just me? Lol
I'm here brother.
lol watched the whole series over the weekend on Funimation because of Gigguk!
@@djmartinez93 lol
Dude... ‘ve seen u on every version of this song xD. But ye
Check out the "Popular Derivatives" section in the Wikipedia article for "Étude Op. 10, No. 3 (Chopin)."
THIS GODDAMNED SHOW STILL HURTS MY HEART
I AINT EVEN MADE IT TO 30 SECONDS AND I CAN FEEL MY HEART TRYING TO KILL ITSELF
quelle merveille
then some one could make this movie again to clarify the story and to satisfy your obsession hehehe
By the way does anyone know where I can get this song online??? I have looked for the actual cd but I can't find it anywhere where I live, and I really want it!!!! :(
@crimsontowers Ehm... you CAN have plenty of Japanese tales without mecha :p

You can record the song instead. It's what I did.
Fauno, Dantes did what he wanted until it fully took him over, so Dantes is the badass, and the demon just gave him the power to escape and not die. Everything else was Edmond. So you are wrong.
Amazing. I hated this song and now I love it.
