      @@johnpauly5524 The microwaves the size that fits in the Sienna are only ~700W max power. Unfortunately we found that it is not fast enough to heat food for two people. Also, the rotating platter in the microwave needs to be secured every time before we drive or it creates horrendous rattle. Removing the microwave allowed me to reconfigure the 3rd row seats area for more space. Our 1200W electric kettle and a gas stove for cooking outside works great for us. Cheers!

    Great video. In your first design you had both the jackery and frig under the floor. I asked if that created any ventilation issues for the two units, you said convection through the holes in the should resolve that issue. In this newest release you have the frig mounted top side, was that simply for convenience or did you experience heat build up when both items were mounted under the floor. Given my requirements and the length of my trips, 2-3mths, i need a higher platform for storage. I haven’t purchased either the power supply or frig as I’m not sure that they would have enough room under the floor to adequately ventilate. I guess the only way to resolve this is to buy them, set up a bluetooth thermometer and track and test it. Your videos are Inspirational

    • @Tellvia
      @Tellvia หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@saywhatuask I did not notice the heat buildup with both fridge and battery in the 3’d raw seat well, but we used that set up only for the first year during which we mostly camp in moderate temps near the ocean. Ambient temperature outside effects the time how long the fridge compressor stays on. Even at 95 F during the night we never had the temperature inside the fridge rise above target of 40º F. When you test you set up monitor the temp inside of the fridge on the fridge’s display and listen to how often the compressor turns on, and how long it stays on. That will tell you if your setup is functional. Good luck with your project!

    Good morning, Great youtube site. I have a bed setup similar to yours, the big thing I’m missing is a refrigerator. You put both the refrigerator and power station under the floor. You’ve cut a lot of holes but they’re covered with your bedding, does the inhibit the proper ventilation both units. I go on two month road trips, a refrigerator and power station would be great, i always stopped as i never got a good answer regarding ventilation of both units. Under floor is the best option, placing it on the floor of the van uses too much floor space. Which always drives me back to my Yeti, a bad solution on road trips. Additionally,Could you please comment on the sound level of each unit, I’m a light sleeper, noise does impact my sleep, think cheap refrigerators in hotel rooms Thx Jim Wonderful site, I’m inspired. Enjoy

    • @Tellvia
      @Tellvia หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@saywhatuask Hi Jim, thanks for reaching out. The refrigerator we use in our van has the inlet and outlet for the air on both (longer dimension) sides. There is al least 5” to the nearest wall and wide open on the other side both of the fridge in plywood and aluminum designs. The warm air from the fridge is rising by convection and there is enough circulation for efficient operation. We went of a 3 day backpacking trip and left the van on the parking lot, with the refrigerator running on power of the 1500W Jackery battery and with day temperatures outside reaching 80 degrees, the fridge kept at 39 degree C, and still running when we came back. On very hot nights (90 degrees) the fridge is running more frequently and the sound, while very quiet could, be a disturbance to sleep. In part this is because the nights are typically so quiet at campsites. Recently we started to use our fridge in freezer mode to freeze Yeti ice packs, we have 4 packs, that we rotate as set of 2 pack every 24 hours between the freezer and our Yeti cooler. It works very well for keeping our food cold and we are able to bring more food in the Yeti, especially when we travel for longer than 2-3 days. Cheers!

  • @saywhatuask
    @saywhatuask หลายเดือนก่อน

    You created holes for ventilation of your refrigerator and power station and than covered those holes with your bedding. Ive read the manual for each of the units, they have very specific requirements for ventilation. With all the holes covered were you able to run both units without overheating

    How do you handle heat at night during summer while in a campground close proximity to others? Thank you.

    • @Tellvia
      @Tellvia หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ralam7559 Realistically, you could ask your camp neighbors if it would be okay to leave the engine running every 15 min for 5 minute (see my video about HVAC system). And, if they’re okay you can run AC at night. You may have a camp host or a a ranger visit you at night, however, as most of campgrounds have curfew from 10 pm to 7am for engine or compressor running. The other option is to pre-cool the van with AC on until 10pm - at least you’ll be alble to sleep a part of the night. In hot summer months we camp in cool places near the ocean or in the mountains. Cheers!

      @Tellvia 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@wittwisebram4333 Congrats with the upcoming delivery of your Hybrid Sienna! Creating a hinge platform for sleeping with second raw seats folded all the way forward might be possible, similar to what we I did with the first (plywood) design. You may need to use two sets of hinges to avoid hight restriction when unfolding the platform. In my recent rig update video Toyota Sienna Hybrid, Camping Rig Update th-cam.com/video/YTcO_a41ozY/w-d-xo.html, I show how I added a hinge system for accessing space under the platform and easy removal of the sleeping platform when we want to reinstall second raw seats. thank you again. i agree with your way of thinking. i wonder how much it will cost to have someone build this kit. one question, i see that you carry several things on your bed when not sleeping/driving. what do you do with them if you need to do stealth parking/sleeping and need to sleep? thank you.

    • @Tellvia
      @Tellvia 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@steviewonder275 As with all services 80% of the price is labor and 20% raw materials. The total cost of raw materials for my build was about $1500. That’s why I decided to do this myself. To my knowledge, there are no aftermarket camping kits for Hybrid Sienna yet. Regarding the camping gear we carry on the top of the bed - when we camp at campgrounds we set up the tent and keep the gear boxes inside. When we arrive late in the evening we often store the gear next to the van with a tarp over it in case of rain, and setup camp in the morning. Stealth sleeping in urban areas with all that gear inside would thought, as many towns have regulations about sleeping in a vehicle. If you travel light you can store what you bring on the bed for the night in the front seats area. It is surprising how much staff can be packed there. Alternatively, you can have a ready-bed and all your gear inside in a B-Class van, like a Mercedes Sprinter. There are, however, expensive, no-fun to drive and consume twice as much gas. So, sometimes less is more. Cheers!

    I have enjoyed your videos as I anticipated my 2024 Sienna (Canadian version), took delivery in April 2024 and built it in a camper (taking ideas from you and many others on TH-cam....thank you!). This current video is making think of rotating my tires. I am also thinking ahead and planning for winter. My question has to do with wheels -- steel or alloy?

    I love your videoa. I hope Toyota bring back the removable 2nd row seats capability. I think Toyota lost a lot of customers because of it. 😅

    : ) THANKS MUCH for sharing! I would love to have a hybrid Sienna, but still too rare and expensive for me right now :( I HAVE to ask, how you removed 2nd row seats as I had read they are difficult and not recommended. ALL the BEST and Cheers ! ! : )

    Sheesh. Excellent video. Sad because I want the X but the practicality of the Sienna is so much better

      That was the Friendship Ridge trail. A bit of a hike from the campground but was well worth it. Happy camping ⛺️

    Using the back well for a fridge is good, but it seems like a waste of weight and space for the bedding. You could have used milk crates throughout for storage and an inflatable mattress to sleep on. The matrix of crates would have easily supported the weight and when not inflated, the mattress would take up far less space than the memory foam.

    For us the Sienna is a great day camper. I liked your bathroom in the back idea so much I have a set up for our car only because around this part of California public restrooms can be either dirty or just closed. Now we can stay out at the beach or the mountains or shopping a lot longer. I know people say we have no bathrooms because of the homeless and stuff but bathrooms are expensive upkeep even for schools so it's more about the money I guess. Then you have two bathrooms men and women so double the coast. I do understand. This idea is actually useful outside of just camping. 😃
