Product Review | In Line Water Filter [GAME CHANGER]
Dark beers toward the other end of the alcohol spectrum can also be great. I made a Munich Dunkel with Munich, Carafa Special II and Melanoidin Malt that came out at 3.8% and was as tasty as.
CJ, Thank you again for having me on. 🍻 It appears I may need to get a better webcam. 😂The interview was really fun, and I'll be doing a short and regular video linking back to you to help share the love. Thank you.
My brewing motto is “First for your own self brew”. I tell new home brewers that often the missing ingredient is patience.
Absolutely patience is key.
great interview mate and thankyou mike for tell us all about yourself
Woot! Woot! Totally enjoyed this interview🙏
Thanks mate, can't wait to have your mug on for a yarn about your journey.
I could see Bec's internal struggle to decide between Citra and Talus!
The struggle was indeed real
Biofine Clear optimum temp is 4°c.
Need to know your water profile. Sydney water is very soft yet some brewers in Sydney want RO water when it is not needed. A very little amount of Campden tablet (Phos or Sod Met) is all that is needed to get rid of the chlorine compounds(about 0.2 grams per 40 litres of brewing water). You can add 5 to 6 grams of CaCl2 and/or CaSO4 depending on style. If your water is not good (e.g. you live in Adelaide) RO water can be the answer.
I'm not in sydney luckily. but will take that on board
It wouldn't be irresponsible to be drinking at 6am. What if you are a shift worker and you have been working all night.
While that is true, not everyone is a shift worker, and therefore I didn't want to perpetuate potnetially bad or harmful habits.
Another great interview! Short, sweet and to the point🍻
Found this one far more easier to digest due to shorter interview length. Cheers
No problem, I ask the same amount of questions with each Guest, and I just them go as long or as short as they like with their answers. coming tomorrow midday is my chat with martin from Brulosophy
@FairDrinkumBrews I look forward to tuning in for that one also.
Thanks so much for having me on the show.
Absolute pleasure Martin, and more than welcome back any time.
I think you can drink any beer at any time of the year, just found your channel when Gavin was on, cheers
Thats very true, also if ya liked this one and gavins ep, I have martin from brulosophy dropping in 2 days on here.
Another great episode. Martin is an absolute legend for information and experiments
It would be interesting to do a comparison. Make two equal beers, one with R/O water and one without. Then get some friends around to do a blind taste test, like the 3 cup test. Just a thought...... cheers
Solid idea, but this isn't Brulosophy haha, Im kidding. That is a sound idea, I will give it a go mid next year.
Dr Smurto's Golden Ale..... classic
Since we recorded the interview I’ve been meaning to look up the all grain recipe and have another go for old times sake
@@curiouscraftbeerandbrewing was one of my first AG brews. It still sits in my Brewmate recipe file.
@@curiouscraftbeerandbrewing we are hoping to come to Lismore in April/May, the wife’s family has deep connections to the town, we are going to check out the Italian Heritage Centre. Will be sure to drop by for some refreshments…
@@littlejohnsbrewing please do mate, I can say thank you in person for all the advice you never knew you gave me all those years ago 😂
That was my first all-grain brew. Gee, I should revisit it after the crazy season is over.
Cannot see the water pump for the system ?
"SYSTEM INCLUDES: Two White Opaque OR Clear Tinted filter housings on a wall mountable bracket Two 10"x2.5" filter cartridges [1x 1uM sediment + 1x 5uM carbon block] One reverse osmosis membrane with flow rate as selected One post membrane in line conditioning filter as selected Three meters of high pressure 1/4" | 6mm water filter tube Tap connectors to fit a 3/4" garden tap and common garden hose clip on fitting as well as a sink mixer diverter valve" aslong as you are not running huge distance or running from a tank water tap pressure is all you really need to be honest booster pump is only needed if you havent got sufficent flow rates
The Water Pump System is in an image throughout the video. I will be posting a short video of it running etc as a short on here this week.
The Sentry filters are pretty good. More efficient than the stuff you can find cheaper. I'm in a soft water area now, so don't really need them anymore. I just add salts to brews based on the existing water profile.
That's always a bonus, I was lucky enough that while I don't necessarily need an RO Filter, it definitely won't hurt my brews, enables me to provide a product review, and help Sentry out as well. :)
will be ordering a Ro Filter this week sometime as i have been meaning to buy one for years. What would have helped with informative review would have been a short videos of the RO filter in action Also it maybe worth interviewing Sentry as a guest explaing to your viewers the purposes of an RO Filter and what all the filters provide. Top Stuff C J
Thanks mate, Be sure to use my code FAIRDRINKUM for a 15% off :) and solid idea, I will approach them with the idea. I will post a video of the RO in action exclusively for Patreon Members sometime this week.
I can't wait to see your brew improvements video now. Beer review incoming
Gossy AG brewer here, the water isn't bad after the caravan filter pretty much a 1:1:1 ratio. Shari is such a great guest, her sales knowledge and experience is amazing to hear
oh okay thank you for that, I must have read the water report wrong, I appreciate that. That being said, I was provided and RO Filter by Sentry Water Filters for free in retrung for an honest review etc (video coming soon). But for the longest time I have run a Caravan InLine Carbon Filter, which improved it tenfold.
@FairDrinkumBrews caravan filter and temp control made a massive difference. With my AG brews of 23L I add 3.3g cal chloride, 3.3g gypsum and 2.0g Epsom. If I see you down the brewshop I'll get a taster for you. The team are always keen for a free beer too
@@Matt-et8np I'll be at TUHB on Thursday if you're around then, but my local is Marks barber and brew. Send me a Message on my facebook page or instagram so we can tee up a chat.
Crafted Taste Brewing Supplies is an awesome place for your Brewing Supplies and Advice. The whole family are full of great ideas and advice. Great to see Shari knecking a Schooner or 2.
Nice interview. I think Shari made your job easy on this one. She kept it flowing nicely. Melbourne tap water is pretty soft and is what I use even when doing all-grain brews (with suitable additions of course) Cheers!
She absolutely did, I always send the guests the questions/topicsahead of time so tthey can prep some answers beforehand.
Great chat guys :)
Congratulations on another well-done interview! John is among the first brewtubers I ever watched. He tells it like it is. I've even had a quote from him tacked to my brewery wall since 2017. I do have and cherish an extensive beer & homebrew book library, but I've also learned a great deal from Little John, Gash (Gavin) and many other brewtubers. Speaking of which, you should interview TubeDinoz and Finnroo Home Brewing. If you keep this series going I'll recommend some others. Cheers mate!🍺
Thats awesome mate, I found your channel a few weeks ago and love your work mate. keep at it
@@FairDrinkumBrews Thank you so much!👍🍺
@@Skid-Baxter Not a problem at all, Do you have a facebook page or instagram for your Skid Baxter brew content?
Nice little lathe 😊
I legit mentioned that to him after we finished recording haha.
@@FairDrinkumBrews I’m a machinist by trade and have a lathe and mill in my garage. As a beer brewer.I like to build model engines.
This has been an absolutely wonderful series. Thank you for putting it on.
Thanks mate, got a bunch more coming. with some more brew days and reviews in between.
I use fwk because I don't have the gear to do all grain. I think ya might have been a bit harsh on them. I love the consistency ya get with them and when ya time poor they are brilliant. I am interested in the mint ice cream stout that was mentioned in the video.
I totally understand the not having gear to do all grain, I also dont have the gear to do all grain or the money, so I do kits but I craft my kits. FWK's are a solid way to go for an easy brew but that's my opinion is that they're way too easy and too less of a challenge to brew. That being said, I do have some FWK brew day videos coming soon though, so you may have a convert on your hands depending haha.
The stout was a normal stout bittered with Sabro at 60 minutes. Had a creamy mint icecream vibe.
Shout out to BIG LITTLE. Simon is a great brewer.
He absolutely is
Much love for the homebrew channel so much wonderful information
Little John is a dead set legend of the home brewing world, IV been lucky enough for him to do a tasting video review on my brews absolute honour. Grate interview
Amazing to see female brewers getting seen on the social media platforms
i find females that are into their beers have way better tastebuds and are more honest with there approach to the tastes and more often or not can pick things out. its really good. and refreshing that the women in the world want to do it. after all back in ancient babylon times women invented beer for their man
John is a good dude, always willing to share
Little John is a legend.
Temperature control Temperature control Temperature control !!!
for the fermentation process - Temp Control is Paramount For the brewing day process - Sanitisation is Paramount
There is nothing wrong with cooper's kits. Look at your process and work it towards a better brew. Cheers
While I value your input, and respect your opinion, I disagree and will say there is everything wrong with coopers kits, I've had nothing but dramas with them and doing everything i can to control the brewing circumstances. The best in the extract Tin business is by far Black Rock. But I definitely value your input. Dont get me wrong Ive made some decent brews with coopers kits, however Ive had even more bad batches (not out of date etc) from coopers kits than I have from other brands.
@FairDrinkumBrewing great feedback on my comment. And I understand because I've been there. However, what is your issue with Coopers kit beer. Do you think your brewing process is complete. Have you researched water chemistry, sugar/malt ,yeat nutrition fermentation temperature, yeast , d rest, cold crash , water treatment, Making beer with any kits is an art all of its own. The more we understand fermentation and the science the better understanding we have to make great beer. Get a water report ,study what's going on. It's a great journey and very interesting. Cheers mate.
@@finnroohomebrewing Thank you, and ditto for your reply aswell. I have done literally every single step you mentioned and still somehow the coopers kits turned out absolutely unviable. Given there are alternative Extract kit (not FWk) brands that offer a much higher quality product, I won't ever brew a Coopers again even if you paid me haha. but too each their own of course, just how vehemently anti-coopers I am, you and others are just as staunch in your love of coopers kits and that's totally fine.
Cheers guys, great interview
Great episode love the concept of interviewing brewtubers very interesting cheers 👍🍻
I've done this as a alcoholic Lemon Lime and Bitters, was good :)
CJ will you be kegging? Great idea on the extra yeast! ")
I actually just kegged this today, taste tested it and its delicious, fully tasting review video coming next week :)
great stuff . pirre you did great love hearing these interviews and looking forward to who is next on your ranks
Cheers!
Really enjoy the home brew channels after a 30yr hiatus wanted to learn as much as I could, now nearly a year in apart from cleaning and sanatizing the 1/2 campden tablet in your water was some of the best advice I learnt (from Pierre's Channel a while back) my 1st 21 brews straight tap water even tho you brewed the extracts the same way the taste would be varied even with the same extract , the last 25 brews using campden the beer taste has certainly greatly improved and consitant now. Thanks CJ appreciate the work your putting into your new channel the interviews have been great best of luck when the new baby arrives, Cheers.
Will be interesting to see how it turns out CJ.
Great Interview with Gash mate and i look forward to hearing mor of your brewing streams
Great video. I love watching Pierre fumble through his brewing journey and watched a heap of his video's before i started. For someone starting out i can recommend the Morgan's premium starter kit. Good solid fermenter, comes with all you need to make a decent first brew including pet bottles.
Wow! Another interview already. Good on you both for the collab. I've done that stupid tap thing too. Luckily I do it in the office/workshop/whatever, which isn't carpeted. For me the 3 keys are clean, sanitize, and avoid oxygen. nice video guys!👍
thanks heaps, my next interview with a homebrewer is abit different, it's with Kai El Brewing, who started as a homebrewer and still is too an extent, but went a bit bigger recently into a nano/Pico brewery (smaller than a micro), so cant wait to chat with him about his journey. Also have a female homebrewer who is on her way to becoming a cicerone, and also owns her own indie bottle shop.
Great Interview, really enjoyed it. Gavin was so good to me after I got very sick 10 years ago and I really wanted to continue with homebrewing. Gavin encouraged me and welcomed me into the brew tube community. I continued and worked through and have come out the other side. As a better person and a brewer I will always be so thankful for Gavin. Thanks Gavin. CHEERS
That's absolutely awesome to hear mate
Great interview. Gav has done well with his channel. I like the way he delivers his knowledge in a clear and concise manner that is down to earth. A true blue guy that is straight up with the craft. The black metal IPA is a cracker, paint your face a brew on!!
Good luck with your up-and-coming channel.
