Stay At Home Garage

Let's have some fun with cars, trucks, and anything else that has an engine! I don't know everything but I know a little about a lot. So, let's learn together and have fun doing it!
My Harley-Davidson won't start! Why?!?! Ignition issues? Battery? I don't know...
My 2013 Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200 won't start. It was an absolute journey to figure out what was wrong with it. I didn't know if we were going to be replacing an ignition switch, replacing battery, or a computer. Some people said to replace the ignition switch, and some said the battery was no good. In this episode, I took the long way to figure out what was wrong with this motorcycle..

Quadrajet Carburetor Fix!!! The K5 is having flooding issues! WHY??
มุมมอง 2095 หลายเดือนก่อน
The 1980 GMC K5 Jimmy is having flooding issues. Let's see if we can find out the reason why it's flooding. In this video, we take a part the Quadrajet carb to see if we can find the culprit! Is it the needle and seat? Is it the choke? Is it the float? Is it just dirty? You'll never guess what I should have checked first before buying a carb kit to put in this!
K5 transfer case seals, axle seals, u joints, and more! Can we get this Jimmy ready for winter?
มุมมอง 2687 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this episode, I replace the transfer case seal, axle, seal, and differential cover gasket. I also try my hand at doing U-Joints in my 1980 GMC Jimmy K5! Since we have applied the Poppy's Patina to make the outside look great and put in new carpet on the inside, it's time to turn our attention to getting this truck ready for the winter! We need it to be reliable to get us through the rain, sl...

FALL FOLIAGE is the word for this video. My little family and I are taking my 1966 Pontiac GTO on a small family vacation. I built this car to drive so I want to take it down the Talimena Scenic Drive. This is a drive I've always wanted to go on. We wanted to see how the leaves were changing with the fall season now here! The Talimena Drive is a national scenic byway that connects Talihena Okla...
1966 Pontiac GTO - Small changes to make a big difference! Let's get ready for a car show!
มุมมอง 3.9K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
I'm fixing small things on my 1966 Pontiac GTO to get it ready for my favorite car show of the year! Let's change the oil using a new type of oil, wash it, and stop the brakes from squeaking. Then we will get rid of the old radio system that I put in as a teenager. Then let's go to the Southwest Street Rod Nationals Car Show! It's my favorite car show!

Did you put a new acumulator and compressor on or is that the original?
I’m not sure if it’s the original but I’ve owned the truck since 2015 and have never changed it before.
@@stayathomegarage are those 134 adapters or are the high and low built on that
can i wet or dry sand instead before washing and applying?
Hmm. I’m not sure. I read the directions and it didn’t mention that but the scotch bright acted like wet sanding a little bit.
Did you convert the system over from r12?
I didn’t. It was already converted by the time I had the truck.
Quick question, I had the same problem with my base coat color absorbing into the pad too. I assume this was because the clear coat was going directly onto the exposed base coat which removes some of it due to the solvents and wiping it onto the vehicle. When you did the 2nd and 3rd coats, do you remember if there was any color leaking on the pad? I would think there shouldn't have been any because it was going directly onto the clear coat layer. Thank you and great video!
Hi! When I did the second and third coats, there was no color leaking on the pad.
That's mine 10mm
How much Poppy's was left at the end if any? Was 10oz enough for each coat?
Yea. There was plenty left over after putting on 3 coats. The thing that I was getting close to running out of is the catalyst that made the clear coat chemical resistance. That I almost ran out of after mixing the appropriate amount for each coat. But again, that may have changed if I didn’t do my coats over 3 days.
Which Noco charger did you get?
The Genesis 1 smart charger.
Doesnt look bad at all
Thank ya!
Good job on that clear coat but please man stop acting like that embarasing yourself you just cant see that Please
Ha ha ha! Man.. it’s who I am!!! Love embarrassing myself. Like I say, burgers are better with some cheese. Thanks for watching man!
You got this man, I got an 82 chevy k5 and it is always fun to work on a k5
I won’t stop! Love this thing! Hope your build is going well!
So basically super expensive clear coat that is 5 times more expensive than your local paint shop has
I mean. I think it’s all relative. My kit was $184 for everything shown. So, if you can have a body shop clear your truck for less than $200, that is fantastic! But I really enjoyed the product and enjoyed doing it myself. So, just depends on what you are looking for I guess.
Such a relatable video. I have reupholstered seats and new carpet sitting in the garage but have to patch panels in the floor pans first. Just need to do it, even if it's not perfect, to get it put together and back on the road. Wish you showed more of that step but love the hot bolt trick.
Thank you! The bolt trick has really helped me out! I learned it from Vice Grip Garage. I can’t take full credit for that one. Next time I’ll share more about the patching!
I've been thinking about Poppy's for my truck too. Great video. Thanks for showing me how it all works and what to look out for. I'm glad you mentioned the scratches were on the truck and not steaks made by the coating.
It's a Harley.period. absolute garbage
Ha ha! To each their own!
Do you think the clear coat dissolves the paint?
I don’t think so. It hasn’t been my experience. My paint still looks good.
@@stayathomegarage I’m at a hardware store and think the black sponge brush from the paint aisle could be a nice applicator? No streak
I don't think it dissolves the paint but I believe it will remove some of the base coat due to the solvents in the clear coat, and the 1st layer of initial coating. In addition, it also removes a portion of base coat from the wipe-on process. I was wondering though, after the 1st layer of clear coat if the 2nd and 3rd layer shouldn't have any base coat because it will be going directly on clear. I wanted to confirm this though since I'm not for sure.
for months I blamed the Battery for it's weakness... My tinder is a 2amp... thought seriously of replacing the battery... Solution: replaced the Tinder for 10amp version... DONE!
Love it! I haven’t had an issue since replacing mine!
I have a 2007 Heratige. It had some Electrical Problems. Most of the problems were corrosion on the ground side of the circuits . Look at the Ground cable to the frame. If that connector is Black, That is corrosion. Use very fine sandpaper to clean and reassemble.
Thank you for the tip! Seems fixed now though!
So what’s the consensus, 30 minutes between coats and scuff? Or 24 hours and scuff? Directions aren’t clear
If I had to do it over again. What I would do is wait 30 mins to 1 hour between coats. I don’t think you need to scuff after first coat. The mistake I made is after waiting 24 hours, I used the same paint tray and applicator. Do not do that. I think that is the biggest thing that cased me issues.
I dont usually watch a video all the way through of someone doing work, but you are doing a good job of being entertaining and informative. Keep up the good work.
I appreciate that!

Nice ride. I have a 66 with a 428 and hooker headers. I use Wix oil filter #51042. Works good for me.
Thanks for the tip!
GTOs were soft sprung. Mine always set low in back but not in the front. Looks great!
Thank you! I really like the way it sits too.
The RA manifolds are decent, but FYI the Doug's D564 headers will allow you to get the oil filter in and out very easily.
This is great to know and why I love this community! Thank you for telling me that! I appreciate it!
@@stayathomegarage You're welcome. I had planned on using ram air manifolds in my '66, but the company that makes the best castings for those (Ram Air Restorations) was pretty flakey and after close to a year and a half of waiting for them to ship my order, I cancelled and installed a set of Doug's headers. No regrets. The Doug's headers fit great and don't need to be dented or clearanced anywhere to fit in the car. Oil changes are a breeze. They're expensive, but it's a buy once cry once situation, so money well spent, IMO.
Thanks for this post. I have a new to me 65 and had no idea headers existed that allowed an easy oil change. I have a lot to learn about this engine. What are the advantages/disadvantages between the RA manifolds and Dougs headers? I would assume both of those would be a big upgrade over the stock exhaust manifolds. @@ZeGermanHam
@@mark63366 Advantages of RA manifolds are they take up less space, are more durable over time, and are quieter (may be a disadvantage to some). Main disadvantage of them is they don't make as much power as headers. Advantages of headers are more power, more aggressive sound, cool looks, and less weight. Doug's headers are the only brand I'd consider in a GTO, since they fit right and don't hang down too low. RA manifolds are good too, but don't have the performance edge that headers do. That may not matter so much for you depending on your goals, though. And yes, either option is better than the standard manifolds.
All of the headers I've seen are such a tight fit I haven't upgraded. I saw one that was so tight, he used a remote mounted oil filter. Now I have two choices thanks for the information. @@ZeGermanHam

Good luck growing the channel! I just learned about Poppys and the mighty analytics sent your video to my feed so you gained another subscriber! Only thing I would recommend is to cut the fluff and get to the point on review videos like this. I definitely skipped a lot but learned a lot at the end so that's what matters!
Thank you so much for subscribing! I checked your channel out too and I’ll for sure be subscribing as well. Thank you for the suggestion man! I keep it in mind.
@stayathomegarage I'm excited to see what all you have in store. My channel is all over the place because I do projects everywhere, but I'm about to start restoring my grandpa's 46 Chevy Truck so I'll definitely be filming all of that!
Great car.....I used to tune the carbs for guys. It's a wonder you didn't burn out your MSD unit when you failed to ground the coil.
Thanks! And as far as the MSD and coil. It’s been like that for over 5 years. So, it seems to be working. But thanks for the tip! I’ll keep in mind when I install another one.
Nice trip 😁 woooooo
Are you trying to be funny?
Always!
Good job!!!! The truck looks great!!! 👌
Thank ya sir!!
Needs to be lowered a couple inches so it doesn’t look like a truck. Looks weird sitting too high.
I like the way it sits now. But to each their own!
@@stayathomegarage It sits like a stock GTO. Factories were building cars that were practical for driving on roads, smooth and rough, up driveways and down, summer and winter. Your GTO will look just fine to all those people who appreciate muscle cars that look stock. I lowered my car, but now I have to be so careful parking because my front splitter will hit typical parking lot concrete bumpers and I can bottom out in some downhill driveway exits. And I just lowered it a mild amount compared to a lot of cars. As you correctly put it, “to each their own”.
