When it comes down to it, we’re machinists at heart.
In your search for a Lathe, Mill or other metalworking machine, you’re likely to find that the majority of people you talk with have never set foot in a machine shop. Yet they’re trying to sell you something which is just that - machine shop equipment.
And this is one of the main places where we are different. The owner of Precision Matthews Machinery Co. has personally run every piece of equipment that we sell, and is involved with the design, quality, and every day operations of the company.
Not all machines are created equal. Precision Matthews machines are a breed apart and in virtually all cases, are equipped with higher quality motors, gears, bearings-and most importantly, a higher attention to detail compared with others on the market. We offer a wide range of machines and accessories, anything from budget priced, hobby type machines, to the highest precision, top of the line industrial machines.

In this video, we demonstrate how to lift the lathe how to lift the lathe off the ground using a forklift as well as an engine hoist. There are many ways to accomplish this task, these are ones we found work for us. The spindle on my Pm25mv gets really hot. Any upgrade for that yet?
Did something quite similar in a past job, for about 4 months. It was the single greatest motivator I could have imagined...to go back to college. So I did.
The product of being paid to make a quota not being paid for quality. The sad reality we live in today its all about the money.
Pretty weak machine 😆
Can you give an estimated weight of the column and the base when they are separated? Removing the column like @walterwinnipeg7350 did sounds like a good idea. Would I need to somehow tram the column back in after reassembly?? Thanks
Man is that mill beautiful. This year i'm going to make it a point to film my projects with the 12x36 lathe i got from you guys. Cheers.
That's awesome! We look forward to seeing what you make on it.
Ah man no geared head?
The 940TV is belt-driven.
@@precisionmatthewsmachineco Yeah.... Belt driven = only the rated torque of the motor. Gear driven = rated torque of motor * the gear ratio so 1750 / 90 = 19.44 torque multiplication. So 6ft/lbs * 19.44 = 116 ft/lbs of torque with highest gear ratio.
Any plan for this size but with geared head?
We just added this machine to our fleet. We will see where things go from here.
That is a nice size machine. Good looking as well. The machine, that is 😂
We agree! This machine is a real beauty.
I've had this machine for over two years now and can say that it is a very fine lathe. Extremely precise and very well made. For those unaware, there is a forum called "The Hobby Machinist" where you can find lots of information on PM machines. You will find there that PM is very well regarded for their products and support.
The next video I would do would be on adding a DRO and the slide resolvers to your machine.
Thanks for the input, we will certainly keep that in mind for future videos!
Nice
Charlie costs me money with every video I watch...
Why does this one use a liquid lubricant rather than the pneumatics like the others I wonder if it is because of the material that’s getting milled, wouldn’t it be better to have a pneumatic hose blowing as well to get rid of the shearing

Always helpful on the phone and TH-cam 2. Merry Christmas.
The block of metal is past its expiration date.
I have a lathe from you guys looking to get mill, could make videos on the different mills options you have. Thanks
You couldn't just use a saw? Wrong tool for the wrong job.😂😂😂
I bought this mill almost a year ago (and love it), but would have loved to have these videos out then! I did fine with the manual, but I like the add video instruction as quick intro before reading the manual. I get so much more detail out of the manual after watching videos like this. Keep the videos coming!
I used a 2 ton load leveler and it was worth every penny.
I put one of your mills together every year for the Bar Z summer bash giveaway, to help with the chip pan / table alignment issue, a couple of small self drilling screws through the pan into the base will hold the pan alignment while wresting the mill into position. Great video and thanks for everything you do for the TH-cam community.
Man this is great. Fixing to order and this video answered all the questions I have.
I set my 13x40 , all went well, the placement and length of the boards in manual was perfect, But I used my rolling A-frame that has 2 - 1 ton chain falls set up , it takes some time, and take the time to do it right. No short cuts , 3 days for me , but I’m cutting chips today. BTW , I’m a crane & rigging supervisor, so I know a bit about rigging.
Setting up my 1236T was a bit more involved. I needed to get it from work to my home, then down the stairs into my basement. I dismantled it right down to the bed and carried the pieces in separately, making a lifting bar out of steel tubing to carry the bed downstairs. After reassembly I had to re-align the headstock but everything went pretty well with no damage. It really helped that I had a very understanding boss and he and a couple of other employees helped me with the lifting and carrying.
Could you guys do a coverage video on a pm-940v pdf very interested in that model but I do not see any informational videos on your channel
Is it one of those " aluminum only ' mills or it'll cut also steel like 1045 or even pre-hard 4140?
If you have the right end mills / cutting tools, steel is not any problem at all. 1045 and 4140HT cut very well.
I used a bench top mill at work that had no DRO but when I bought my PM mill for my own shop I added one. I can’t tell you how much I don’t miss having to count sixty revolutions of the hand wheel to move the table exactly six inches while everyone tries their best to interrupt me and make me lose count. I still need to sit down one day, put a piece of stock in the vice and teach myself all of the functions other than just the half function.
Your comment about the one right way to use the Ab/inc functions sound like every Facebook machining page. 😆
Excellent series of videos, recently, and Charlie is exactly the right person for this, obviously. Flawless delivery and just the right sarcasm. What are the necessary additional steps to dismantle the machine for moving easier with the ‘factory installed’ DRO? Do the scales remove and index easily, or is there a more efficient method?
The DRO is easy to remove. For the most part though, you will only need to remove the bracket on the back of the saddle, the scales etc can remain attached. If you would like a further explanation, please give us a call.
I wasn’t even aware that you had a TH-cam channel. Subscribed.
Awesome video
What length strap are you using?
The strap we used is 6' x 2".
Hello. Are metric machines and shipping to Europe available?
Unfortunately, these machines are not metric and we do not ship to Europe.
I bought the same exact machine 2 years ago. When i got the machine the table had 100 and 10 thousands back lash in it after removing the table i found that it did not even have the back lash screw in it and the screws that healed the brass nut to the table were loose also. After having the machine for about one year the motor developed a bad clicking sound. My openion was it had a bad bearing. Percision mathews did replace the motor. So far no troubles after that.
Nice video. Thank you!
Придурок
If you are boring your part , why would you ream it....used the correct grade insert and Higher feed and speeds and a multi pass method to gain correct sizing
Leaving a comment in the hopes it keeps the videos coming ! Thank you !
Nice presentation thanks.
Nice and thank you for the video. I think it would be useful if you show in a video overview where the linear scales are mounted.
Thanks for the suggestion! We'll keep it in mind for future videos.
Last year, I bought a King Canada model KC-20VS milling machine, which is of similar size and weight as this PM-728VT. My mill was delivered, on a pallet, to my garage. My workshop is down a flight of stairs, in my basement. I used the disassembly method, and since i was working by myself, I broke it down to four sections: head, table, column, and base. Strapped each part to a wheeled dolly, and gently walked it down the staircase, one step at a time. I had built my own wheeled bench for my mill. Re-assembled the mill onto my bench, where it has been ever since. Thanks, this is a useful video for anyone considering buying a machine of this size, but concerned about moving it single-handed.
As a relatively new owner of a PM-935 and PM-1440GT I'm very please to see you start making videos. Please keep them coming.
