Saab 9 5 non start solved
As I promised in my first video of this problem, here is the solved video, turns out all these strange problems, car going into limp mode, gearbox fault on the dash etc, was all down to a faulty ignition switch. (Just a side note, the car weirdly turns over faster when starting now)

If you hear this noise coming from your car, check your front shock top mounts
Saab 9-5 noisy power steering pump

Fitted a new power steering pump, belt & front pipe which was leaking, and bled the system properly with the proper stuff. Leaking in a different area now and the pump is still noisy

Skip to 1.05 for the good stuff! Unfortunately the mic on the camera bottomed out from the noise but the noise was unreal!

❤ I have sabb 95 it's nice car but sometimes it wont start it drive me nuts trying to find the problem 😢 Still looking 😮
Hi do you have the model number for the ignition switch please let me know thanks
Thanks for the run-through here. My "always-on/DRL" headlights would only come on with switch in first position. New ignition switch solved the issue. The updated replacement part looked different from the original, and came with an additional connector to bridge the old connector port with the new switch. Also, I believe on Dame Ednas there is only a single air duct that runs from front to back, the rear section secured to the inside of the center console housing.
Thanks very helpful. Hit a pothole and it started making this sound. Best to replace both sides as the NCT will read an imbalance in shock absorbers & fail test. Both cost €240 to buy. Not bad.
Is it dangerous to drive?
Mine just passed it’s MOT making this sound
That depends, have you had the car long and if so, has it only started making this sound? If so, it will be ok to drive for a month or two (average mileage). If you've just bought the car and it's making this noise, you don't know how long it's been making this noise so I would say get it done sooner than later
@@ff40mad Thanks. I’ve had the car for 4 years or so. Not quite sure when I first heard the sound but today it got a bit more obvious and more frequent so I’ll get it checked out. Thanks for sharing the video. I feel like it should have been picked up on the MOT and service.
Am not getting any instrument panel lights and it cranks but won’t start, any suggestions🤔 thanks for the video.
Ive got the same issue now, did you ever figure out what it was with yours?
Power steering fault
Think I too have the same issue, so thanks for the video.
I got the same prob with my Saab, code p0400,egr prob
My car is doing this has any one found out the problem?
Is it starting now..?
Yeah it started after fitting a new (second hand) ignition switch 😀
Spring are not in the right pozition
Hi. I’m in the UK. I really hope you can help. I bought a 56 plate Saab 9 5 2.0 T auto. Went to see it last week, was starting in front of the guy’s house. It belonged to his dads in law who passed away. It started on jump start and we drove around the houses. This week I went with a friend to pick it up same thing started with a jump start and drove it 50 miles no issues. Soon as I stopped in a petrol station in my town, when I wanted to start again, it won’t start. Went to eurocarparts and got a new battery(jump start the car with it), once home I have replaced the battery and it started, left it over night, I couldn’t start it in the morning and central locking wasn’t working after few trials. I am assuming something is draining the battery maybe when car is parked for a while?
Well, seems I might have same thing needed to replaced. Took a voltmeter and measured the old battery, it’s perfect, put the voltmeter on the new battery that I have installed yesterday, shows 10.6V or so, tried started it and it did surprisingly this time and measured again, 12.6 V, turned on the AC, lights and radio, voltage measured 14.16, so alternator is good, switched off the engine and waited and it went back to 10.6 V measured. One of the side effects of ignition switch is battery drain. Can’t find a new replacement anywhere online (sold out everywhere) so that means I’ll have to go with a used part.
did the ignition switch solve the problem, i been having this same issue for a while now and think it’s time to replace the switch itself
@@jamainemchai7120 Hi. A battery with higher crank power sorted out. Never had any issues after.
@@japanluv Glad you fixed it, just on a side note I have seen alternators putting out 14v when running and still drain the battery due to a failed rectifier diode, caused me weeks of head scratching.
@@mercedeslove4291 Sold now. Road tax £600 plus, they increased my insurance as well so had to let it go and got a 2015 Seat Leon FR TDI instead. I kind of miss it.
My Panda started making same noise this week. I will check struts.
Did the car start when it wanted then wouldnt again or did it just not start one day until you switched it
Was completely intermittent for a short while, then refused to start. Also, when it would start, I had crazy error lights on the dash, wouldn't drive right, all sorts of mad stuff
Friend told me it sounds like a solenoid?? Hers would cool down and start too
Are you able to read the computer now
Yes, everything went back to normal after changing the switch, display comes on when the ignition is switched on, runs it check, everything
@@ff40mad interesting. I havent been able to read my computer for a while now, but thats the only problem.
Did you end up finding the problem
Yes, the ignition switch was faulty, I changed it and it has worked ever since and I'm still driving her. Hope it helps
All that it needed was a full battery
No. it was a faulty ignition switch
Here's something simpler and cheaper to try first: Simply replace the Starter Relay. Less than $10 from Amazon. I'll bet you still have the original Bosch starter relay and these are notorious for being at fault intermittently. In other words, your car might start fine twenty times and then not start but all accessories illuminate. Then, after waiting from 10 minutes to an hour, car starts fine. This simple fix may be your solution, before replacing more expensive parts. I've had no problem after replacing the starter relay several weeks ago. Hope this helps!
That's true and could work, it happened to me with a Mercedes I had a few years ago, starter motor relay was causing an intermittent fault which slowly got worse until I replaced it. In this case though, it was a faulty ignition switch which caused the fault and hasn't happened since changing it, and I daily drive the car. Thanks
You all probably dont give a shit but does any of you know a tool to get back into an Instagram account..? I somehow forgot the password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Sullivan Crosby instablaster :)
@Erik Alfonso I really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Erik Alfonso it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D Thanks so much, you saved my ass!
Nice, i have a no start issue. going to give this a shot.
So did you put a new power steering pump on?
Yeah, I put a new power steering pump in it, new water pump and a new fan belt. None of it made any difference. The only thing i can say for sure is, when I started the engine with the fan belt of, the car sounded perfect, no noise, when i put the belt back on, the noise came back. The alternator was reconditioned just before i bought the car and idler pulley and tension pulley made no noise when I checked them with the belt of. I think the only thing left is the A/C compressor, something inside that may well be making the noise as the A/C in my car is not and has never worked. Hope that helps in some way
@@ff40mad I used a siphon hose and ducked out the old fluid and put new in with a bottle of that Lucas power steering stop leak and conditioner and the sound of mine is almost gone so I thinking maybe the rack and pinion is whining since you have done the power steering pump. My car is a 02 saab 93 2.0 turbo convertible I love car but I hate that loud whining sound I hope with in next few days sound goes away I just did the replacement of fluid and sound went down 40 percent at least so keep me informed I'll keep you informed. And I thought these cars have electric fans.
@@ff40mad is fan belt maybe a air pump belt for emissions
@@ff40mad My car is making the exact same noise, and I was also guessing that it was the power steering pump. But when I was looking for the source of the sound, the sound seemed to come from the A/C compressor. My A/C also doesn't work for quite some time now, so I don't think that's a coincidence. Luckily, I have the exact same car that I keep for spare parts, so I will be changing the A/C compressor one of these days. I will keep you posted!
@@SeamonVB please let me know if you change it and it solves the problem, I havent had a chance yet to change my one so I can't say for sure, thanks again
Does the noise stop when you depress the clutch. ( I have a similar noise and it stops when pressing clutch)
Your talking about a clutch release bearing, no it's not that, my car is an auto
@@ff40mad That's very helpful - thank you . 'Hope your's gets sorted
Never found out the noise, I'm still driving the car and it still makes the noise but hasn't got any worse. I did get under the car one day and I moved the power steering pipe (where the pipe drops down from the pump and passes the air intake pipe) around and the noise stopped. It seems the pipe is resting against the air intake pipe. The noise didn't fully go but it did sound a hell of a lot better
What made that noise?

did you find out what was wrong in the end?
That there was some mighty fine kid wake up alarm ! :P
Is there any videos of it I wonder? wouldn't like the repair bill for putting a 6R4 right, everything would have to be custom made for it
