Customizing Layer Mask in Capture One
In Capture One, the default mask color is red, which works great for some subjects, but can be problematic when creating masks on faces. Not to mention staring at a saturated red (or any color) mask for a while can create after images in our eyes when we turn the mask off and momentarily change how we see colors.
I'll show you how I solve these problems simply by changing the mask color.

Watermark your images in Capture One.
มุมมอง 3K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Small watermarks in proofs don't prevent clients from using the images anyway. They can photoshop or crop it out, or, worse, just use the photo with a partial watermark showing. So perhaps the solution is to create a watermark that covers the whole image. This video shows how to create one like that in Photoshop, and then how to use that (or any watermark) in Capture One Pro. Thanks for watchin...

Fixing White Backgrounds in Capture One

Fixing White Backgrounds in Capture One
Thanksss!!!
Great tip thank you!
Perfect. Thanks so much!
Thank you!
aDo you have any control over headroom? It looks like this is cropping the tops of heads, and I have a few clients that don't like that.
I use the crop intensively. I still think lightroom is way better on that part. Thanks for the video.
My impression is that for the average Amata just wanting to have their photographs organised, then the system of catalogue or catalogues and then collections with albums, which echoes aperture et cetera works very well. But sessions I can see will be better if you are professional and selling your photographs et cetera
Hello, I have one question, Can I use this action for fullbody, not only headshot?? I work with fashion and I want to use autocrop on e-commerce jobs.
This is more or less what I was looking for. But if your background has a light green color, is there a way to change it to white? A white background is needed but my wall is light green. Thanks for any advice 🙂
You can do the layer the same way, then go to the advanced color editor to pick the background color and change the saturation.
Thank you for all of your videos. My brother recommended your channel while I have been learning Capture One and it's been so valuable.
Great video. Interested in your program.
How you cycle through rule of thirds, golden ration in c1 22 ,I just have one setting while cropping?
Thanks so much!
Can u remove just backgrounds in the software
Thanks a lot Robert!
Thanks for this video!
Hi Robert, you havent posted in a while. Hope you are well. Looking forward to more!
Thanks for sharing, I have a question if you allow me. In E-commerce shoots we take 3 to 5 photos per item and we use an excel + Terminal trick to extract the original file name from the images then create new folders with those names then move all images that has this first name in them inside this folder, So we basically sorting all images using Terminal. Is there's aways do those steps in capture one? For example: i have shoot 5 images with the name AAAAA_1 + AAAAA_2 + AAAAA_3 etc. and i need to export all the images with the name AAAAA in them and take all the images with the name AAAAA and sequence in them and put them in that folder that was created. I think it's an advance method and not sure if there's aways to do that in capture one, i really hope there's and it's easy to do, it will save us a lot of time and effort :) Waiting for your reply.
Hey Robert, I just landed in your video about Sessions Vs. Catalogs, excellent explanation in that one. With this, is just magnificent how you solved one of the main issues that I had now with organization and shoots for clients.
Can you process Raw files only instead of using Tiff file?
Very helpful. Thank you. I'm having trouble finding the video on 'process recipes' that you mentioned. Can you help me out?
This video give me the answered to what i was wondering about, excellent. Thank you.
I shoot for HS yearbooks. I save all my assignments in Windows Folders with the schools name, date shot and the event that was covered that day. I need to leave those folders as is. I want to open the individual assignment's folder, crop, edit and also delete images I dont want. What would be the BEST way for me to do this? Thanks!
Great job of explaining. CO does a great job of editing but image management is ridiculously convoluted and overly complex IMO.
I know what you're mean. Most confusion comes from trying to adapt a library structure into C1 session. Ideally,, you take individual projects into Sessions, then once you have that organized using the C1 folder structure, you then import those Sessions into a Catalog.
Excellent! ! ! Thank you.
Wow. Super helpful. I have about 40,000 images now stored on two hard drives (one main, one backup). My photos are organized into separate folders and labeled by date and subject. How complicated would that be to migrate to C1? If I created a session for each of my existing folders, where would my Capture One session adjustments reside? Would I drop that Capture One session folder in each of my existing photo folders that I have already created? The organizing part sounds much more complicated than the actual photo editing part! Thanks for you help!
With sessions, the adjustments are stored in folders where the images are stored. So you could use one session for all the folders if you wanted, or create one per folder. Another option would be create a catalog and import the images using the "Add to catalog" option to keep the images in the current folders. In this case, the adjustments would be stored inside the catalog instead of in folders.
@@RobertRead3 Thank you so much Robert!
Hi Robert. I use Lr since version 3 and so used to it i think its so intuitive, moving to C1 has been a hassle mostly with folder structure, the import new files and folders to an existing folder and batch editing where Lr is so much intuitive and faster, among other things. Of course C1 engine is much better and if i want to stay with the same C1 version for a couple of years and upgrade only when i want, i can... Lr almost forces you to upgrade, 2 months ago i could not sync between LrC and Lr on my iPad if i didn't upgrade also i couldn't upgrade because my 2010 Mac Pro wouldn't allow further updates. I bought C1 3 years ago and still struggling with it because i end up using Lr.
Not really sure why this won't work with Version 22 but I get as far as moving the curve and nothing happens. I really must be missing something but I have tried 4 times now and same result.
Hi Trevor, I tried today with Capture One 22 and it worked for me so I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe double check that the right layer is selected?
@@RobertReadPhoto Appreciate you getting back to me I'll give it another go and thanks for all your Capture One expertise. It seems they seem to be lacking tutorials but I love it hands down over LR.
@@RobertReadPhoto HI Robert! It's Alex Abercrombie from HSC (for some reason I'm signed in on my other 'unicorn' YT acct, sorry.) Anyway, same as Trevor posted, I am trying this tonight on an image (using C1 21Pro) and when I move the curve left nothing happens to the make the white whiter. And I AM clicked on the correct layer. Note. I had used this same tutorial of yours about a month ago on another image from another shoot and it worked perfectly on that one. Not sure what is going on. Any suggestions? Thank you!
wow thank you so much for this incredible tutorial! you just saved me so much time and money. Thank you!
Thanks, glad it helped!
None of them - don't leave whatever you are editing your raw files in - you will have fewer frustrations in the future if you avoid capture one.
Hi I'm using this plugin as an agency photographer and It may have the ability to save a ton of time, I was wondering if a standard 8x10 option is available or is it just square hex and circle? The ratio in the format and size of the plugin to publish doesn't seem to be working...and there is no contact or customer support on the Cropt plugin website. please respond to advise.
Hi Brian, currently the only crop options are square, hex, and circle. We could add 8x10 option, though. Are you thinking of a vertical 8x10 (or 4x5) crop? That should be doable. Sorry about the missing contact info on the website. I’m pretty sure the email with the license code has some contact info, but I’ll makes sure it’s added to the website, too. You can reach out to help@getcropt.com
@@RobertReadPhoto Thank you! yes in my case vertical cropping where the eyes are on or just above the upper third in a rule of thirds grid, I need to be able to show the clients full face and hair. My dream options would be to have the option to have the images cropped in an vertical 8x10 or optional 4x6 both are standard in my industry. If the plugin could do full body crop! with room above the head and equal room below the feet. lol I don't want to ask too much! I digress! If the plug in could do optional headshot cropping ratios with room above the head, showing the hair, I would be a monthly subscriber for sure! Also when searching Cropt Plugin Capture One in google, I can't find anything! It's a shame because this tool is awesome!
@@brianmcquain3384 OK, I'll see what I can do. Thanks!
Great tip, Robert!
How did you get the outside to be white? When I click the background drop down menu nothing but “background” is listed
Click and hold the + button next to the Background menu (ie layer selection) and choose the option to create a New Filled Layer to create the new layer for this technique.
Cool! Thank you Robert
Well done! Cheers!
Great tutorial! Thanks.

Hi Robert Any idea if the Cap One exclusive versions like "For Nikon Only" come with other base camera brand profiles to play with? Or does one have to purchase the "For Every Camera" version?
I think you answered your question in your question.
Probably not, but I’m not sure. I only have the all camera version available so I can’t check.
@@RobertReadPhoto Thanks Robert. Cap1 support finally responded. All the ICC profiles for various cameras will be available in Capture One for Nikon.
Thank you for posting this video. I tried several other Capture One techniques but couldn't accomplish what I wanted. However your video helped me accomplish my desired effect quickly.
Hello @Robert Read Photo would you be able to make a video on your audio settings you used when recording your voice for this video?
I use a Sure sm7b mic and the McDSP SA-2 Dialog Processor for a bit of compression and filtering.
Hi, ty for the video. Very confused, (not just on your video). Catalogues, collections, albums, folders, groups. I don't see the delineation for these terms. How do they function in a standard workflow? This is not an easy transition from L/r ...
I think just use catalogues and collections then its the same as LR?
is there a possibility to open 2 or 3 raw files out from C1 in Ps in layers. similar to Lightroom. for example for luminosity masks. thanks
That was a nice tips :-) Thank you for shearing.
Thanks!
I did find this helpful. This is magic. What would we do without TH-cam and people like you?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
One thing i find strictly with Shadows and clarity in C1 is that it is way too harsh when using these tools. I've seen others use the shadows and clarity tool in LightRoom and or Affinity and the intensity is much more pleasing and does not bIow out the highlights or contrast. To me, C1 doesn't really seem like it will allow you to take it there with it's default tools like you can in LR alongside LR's algorithms. both different developers, though it sort of is a let down but at least you have the freedom to move the photo over to Affinity as TIff... but at that point you are no longer editing the raw photo, which may defeat the purpose. Q: When saving as Tiff and then editing with Tiff in a photo editor like PS or Affinity, that means the editing is destructive right? Q2: does Tiff preserve ALL the data and dynamics from the raw?
Yes, editing a tiff in PS or Affinity is generally destructive, though you can use smart objects in PS to do non-destructive editing. A tiff does not preserve all the data and dynamics from the raw file. So you need to make sure you've pulled out the dynamic range you need in Capture One before going moving to a photo editor. I think I've had the opposite experience with Capture One's clarity - to me it feels more natural and less overpowering than Lightroom and is also more flexible, but perhaps it depends on the raw file and subject as well.
@@RobertReadPhoto I never got to thank you for your reply. I have taken this and kept it in mind when I try to edit photos and have since tried and integrated phtoshp into the mix. I appreciate you taking the time to reply, thank you :)
Ah, the soothing sounds of Robert Read, how I've missed those.
Great video, i can't decide which version to get :/ since i might get the new apple silicone.. i think best option for me is, annual subscription with pre pay, 179
There is good news there - Capture One has recently confirmed the next update will support Apple Silicon. No release date yet, but usually when they make an announcement like that the release comes out a few week later.
