    I loved the demo and can't wait for the final release. I have one question how do you get the hero time achievement because the demo ends when the tank shows up.

      @@christopherwebber3804 p.s. other effects? Besides terrain Bolster increases MPs by 2 and Morale reduces MPS as Morale declines (at least towards enemy but not towards friendly side of map :) ).

      @@burdenofcommand2094 Does surrounding an enemy bolster your troops? I had an enemy surrounded before I assaulted it (after failing previous assaults) and the units not attacking had "Bolster!" appear next to them. Maybe I'll find that in the Bocopedia, too

    This looks like it's shaping to be a VERY innovative game,. I loved the pace and depth. As an RPG it remided me of "Roadwarden" in tone and looks, and as an hex based wargame I'd compare it to "Decisive Campaigns: Barbarossa" an operational based but also RPG focused.

      @@fabiogovernato965 these are really very insightful comments. DC Barbarossa is good analogy. I know the designer of that a wee bit (the campaign not the engine). Brilliant, brave work (tough issues touched ine). I know of Roadwarden but have not tried but you analogy feels apt. You might also think of it as Squad Leader meets Band of Brothers if you know the former game. But with modern interface (xcom like)…we hope. There is a demo out btw on our steam page? Recent video shows what is in it as well. Luke (lead)

    I downloaded the demo and encountered an issue: my maximum screen resolution is 1366x768, but the minimum required resolution is 1280x1024😢

      @@gone41674 I am sorry but the interface justs gets to cramped at that height for certain parts of game If we ever make it work for steam deck then would work at your resolution. But not in cards right now for a little Indie. 😕 Luke (lead)

      @@burdenofcommand2094 Got it, but could you lift the resolution limitation so I can enter the game and play? I think 1366x768 is a fairly common resolution, and by restricting it, you're excluding many potential players. Even if it’s not ideal, it’s better than being unable to play at all.

      @@Azoth51 thank you. Yeah its amazing what bugs show up when you scale up from maybe 150 playtesters over its lifetime (and maybe 10-20 currently to 1500+ already. But on bright side, this demo is acting effectively as a form of ‘’early access’ to help us find these bugs rather than on full release 😳 Luke (lead)

    Great game so far! Some gameplay.And objectives are concerned.With an eye for details.Super! But the maps you play on.Look dated ( 1980s). A bit of deja vu! When you see the ingame.Compared to all those extras around it.This can be MUCH better in 2024.

      @@Portawolf thanks! Yeah I made a brilliant decision to code my own graphics engine in python because Unity didn’t see like a good fit when started and 3D to expense/tricky. So mea culpea, but many people still find existing art appealing and glad you are enjoying gameplay! Luke (least)

    I am not a fan of (bang bang your dead) While I liked xcom to an extent. Its frustrating how cover and other factors do not play very well into the mechanics of xcom 2 and other games. I have always preferred going back to games like SPWAW and the old talonsoft games for more realism and a sense of really earning a victory on the battlefield and developing some attachment to units and their loss in the game. Playing Squad Leader and victory games "Ambush" back in the day really gave me a great lesson in not crossing in the open and always using cover and concealment. Great vid.

    This is amazing, really. Guilt from killing is what a lot of games lack. I heard that this is what made soldiers more reckless, not caring if they die or not.

      Interesting comment. Yeah the psychology here is very inteesting. Did a fair amount of first pass reading on PTSD, Combat Fatigue, COmbat Stress. Some studies came out after wwii that try to model in game mechanically and narratively. WIP progress though. Luke

      We try not play such games. Our historian tells us that Cottonbalers were recruited heavily in SW United States. Therefore we were trying to represent the actual demographics.

      Well put. Modeling a different time and place si tricky. For example, I wish we had made our characters more religous because they were more then (esp if you go back to WWI1 where the bible was the central metaphor they often used to understand what was happenng). WWII often used the movies. Modern soldiers I understand often use game metaphors... Capturing the past is hard. Work in progress for us in future campaigns. Luke (lead)

    If you want to be technical (and I know you do), the M51B1 fired from the M3 gun (present on the M5A1 Stuart, M8 Greyhound, T17E1 Staghound, and others) can penetrate a Tiger I's 80mm side or rear plates at what could charitably be called close range. BuOrd penetration charts show 50% penetration rate for 3.2" (80mm) RHA plates and 3.15" (79mm) FHA plates with the shot type at between 10-100yds. Mid-war BuOrd tests show even better performance (50% success at 84mm/81mm RHA/FHA, but are considered less reliable than the post-war data sets. Not that Stuart crews would ever have been suicidal enough to try.

      OK, you are awesome! Remind me never to tangle with you on armor LOL. Seriously impressive. For your interest sake we draw on Panzer War micro rules we draw on did their own gun tests via a gov lab (or drew on the results, something like that, been awhile). So the numbers we use should be credible. But I do not pretend we have supplanted Steel Panthers or Combat Mission on this front 8-) Plus the modeling of armor is thin for this campaign. For example Morale not modeled though ' Brothers in Arms' book has now convinced me morale quite important (crew bailout). HOpefully for next campaign. And someday a Steel Panthers like but narrative campaign. God willing :-) Luke (lead)

      Ah Slim. Amazing commander. Read one of his books (about his activities in 1930s if I recall). Very true. We deliberately didn't want to do an elite unit like Band of Brothers for reasons akin to what you cite. The reality then though is casualty rates get high. Esp for officers. There we distort. But our justification is we want to give you the emotional connect without putting your through a 1000 meals and road stops . So we lower the casualty rate from historical. So emotional authenticity over physical. Thanks for the quite! Luke(lead)

      @@aaronjones2117 Ha, great minds. My vision for BoC 2.0 is dynamic campaigns where much more realistic casualty rates happen. Dynamic meaning maps, narrative, and forces involved built procedurally. Akin to what Steel Panthers did on the wargame front and what Wildermyth did on narrative RPG side.

    Might I suggest the BoC team take a look at Combat! Volume 2 campaign rules. I´m trying to aquire it for mightself but heard now from several wargamers that the campaign mode is the closest they got to a Band of Brothers experience. Perhaps something BoC can draw inspiration from for its upcoming release or future modules. An immersive campaign mode is the top point of my list when it comes to what we´re still missing in the (tactical) wargame genre.

    Realistically tho, shells didn’t need to penetrate. Crew would sometimes bail the first shell that landed on their tanks, out of fear alone.

      @@lastburning hey excellent! Yeah I think BoB gets the combat model right and Krohn has been supportive of Burden. Did you see the video a few weeks back “Squad Leader meets Band of Brothers” (TV series). Should interest :) My other favorite is Combat Commander. Didn’t yet have time to put as much chaos in as that system provides :) But the narrative event driven engine makes up for that sone plus Krohn like actions require MCs.       ​@@burdenofcommand2094 I have only played Screaming Eagles and Ghost Panzer, but I'm of course interested in the pacific one too (Old Breed). It has mandatory infantry facing which makes it slightly more fiddly I'd imagine. I have found only one online retailer that has it in stock (currently), so maybe I should buy it soon haha. Combat Commander Europe was my first "proper" wargame.

      @@lastburning wow atarted with CC. That’s starting with a bang. The latest Conflict of Heroes has an interesting chaos model as well. Every action is chaotic.you never know when you will run out of action points basically. Has a solitaire module as well.

    Imma be real from a commercial point of view this is a bad video. The game is very niche and doesn't have a lot of attention around it, so I don't think it matters that much. But as a casual consumer with an interest in the game, this video is almost off-putting. The launch window just feels unfulfilling, and my immediate expectation is that the product will miss that window. The teasing of further elaboration and answers in separate pieces of media just makes me want to disengage with the product and move on as a casual consumer. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm not the only one who feels this way. The only reason I'm even aware of the product is because I'm a fan of one of the people who worked on the game. Sorry if this seems like I'm being an asshole or comes across as harsh, I just wanted to give some feedback that might be insightful for the game's marketing.

But in existing you can tell the guy went through something really difficult, it leaves a bit more scope for the own imagination I think. He kind of looks at me and tells me: I had to make some tough calls. Now the burden of command is on you.

    My grandfather was a 1LT serving as S3 for an armored infantry battalion during a failed operation in WW2, part of which featured the battalion commander leading a beachhead on the far side of a river from most of the company. The commander kept the beachhead alive and eventually they got back-after destroying everything they couldn't swim with and swimming back under cover of darkness-but the morning reports regarding both sides of the river are a very good real-time record of morale spiraling downhill, as both positions were under constant fire for days. For his service during this time, my grandfather received a Bronze Star and was eventually relieved by a Captain once they got one. He was later made dogsbody to Bruce Clarke during the defense of St. Vith, and for the rest of his life, Clarke sent my grandfather a copy of everything he published, always with a handwritten note inside, especially if it was about leadership. There's no way I'll ever know what that was really like, but I've been waiting for this game for a long time, and I'm glad to see that it will be attempting to accurately simulate key aspects of morale and leadership.

      @@MAlanThomasII Ian (?) thank you for taking the time to chronicle your grandfather. Any chance it was in Italy? Sounds familiar to me. Know what unit p/division he was in by chance? Many of our volunteers are either current military or there ancestors were in wwii. My Dad was USN Pacific in WWII. Though he did not see combat. But definitely a motivator me me. Did you see the “Is Burden Historically Credible ?1” video a week or so back? Might interest you. Luke (lead) P.s the morale spiraling down is interesting. McManus our advising historian has written on how morale is effected by more then combat. Sleep, fatigue, shelter or lack etc. we try to capture so,e of that via narrative events effecting unit morale.

      @@burdenofcommand2094 (Alan) 23Bn, 7AD. France and Germany, although my grandfather never made it past the Ardennes due to a severe wounding. The river crossing was their first attempt to cross the Moselle near Metz. The bulk of the battalion that was left on the west bank under the XO's command was within range of Metz's defenders and had to shelter in buildings due to constant harassing fire. The elements that crossed with the CO were stuck because there were significant defenders, and no boats survived to either reinforce or evacuate-when they tried bringing in more boats, those were also destroyed-and they credited excellent artillery support with keeping them alive and uncaptured by creating a defensive perimeter of artillery fire until they gave up their position and swam back across the the river under cover of night. If I remember the morning reports correctly, the CO was wounded at some point during this, due to leading from the front, but I don't know the details. At St. Vith, after becoming one of General Clarke's ADCs, my grandfather was sent into St. Vith to keep the General in direct contact with the defenders. Clarke was, shall we say, not the type to sit back and assume things would filter up and down the chain of command quickly and accurately, especially in the rapidly-evolving chaos of the Bulge. In fact, Clarke and his opposite number with the German forces both spent the first day of the Bulge at congested crossroads, directing traffic; only they had the large-scale picture to know which units needed to be going where and which needed priority in getting through. You could say that's reflected in a game mechanic of a higher-ranked officer choosing which units to activate. :)
