vs QPR in the first half, he set up very defensively with a low block and very little closing down until the ball was in Wednesday's defensive third. It was then a case of counter attacking but with few bodies being thrown forward. Dull as ditchjwater but effective vs a passing team. In the second half, Wednesday pressed much more offensively, and reduced the risk of being countered themselves with dozens of minor fouls when possession had been squandered. As a QPR fan,this drove me close to insanity, but, with the ref keeping his yellow card tucked away in his pocket, Wednesday were highly effective at attacking with overloads, swift and accurate passing and plenty of chance creation. QPR were out-thought, out-fought and, in my undoubtedly biased opinion, done by a ref who didn't punish repeated tactical fouls.

As soon as were prompted to league 1 the owners and Simmo kept managing expectations saying we were promoted too soon. Instead of trying everything to stay in league 1 they prepared for league 2 but heaped too much on the players with talk of instant promotion back to league 1. Plus we bought perpetually injured players. Kelly has sat at home for the best part of a year. Wyke suffered an injury that finished his season in October. Armstrong is a back up striker at best. The owners are brilliant but spent too much time on the 'fan experience' around the ground rather than concentrating on what's going on on the pitch. UTB!

Some good points. Although Mellish isnt a great loss for me, excellent servant, whole hearted 110% kind of player, but not good enough technically. This wasn't an issue in a PS team, but its a prime example of us having the wrong players for a MW team. Hopefully the full new team we have signed in Jan will gel quickly and get the results required. Early signs are promising. Fingers crossed we get a few wins quickly to get us out of the relegation zone as soon as possible, then we should be fine for the rest of the season. On the pitch the last 18 months have been one of the worst and most worrying periods supporting the club that I can remember. Which is bizarre because its the first time we've ever not been close to financial ruin. Cant fault the owners theyve spent a fortune on and of mf the field but some of the people running things day to day and advising them on transfers etc should be moved on.

Nothing to do with tactics… more to do with having much higher class players than the rest of the league and spending an unheard of amount of money at that level… opinion will be blanked because I’m a villa fan… but I think blues will still need a better manager when they reach the higher levels… I can’t see Davies going much further than championship. Blues have ambition and even as a villa fan it’s exciting because we could get out beloved derby back after too many years of blues being run very poorly. I can see them upgrading next season if he’s not cutting it.

So….injuries have really been killing us! Williamson has only JUST got the players he wants! Wyke? He has had a season ending injury from October! Set play? Honestly it’s not such a strong point. Having signed 10 PLAYERS IN JANUARY the mind set of the dressing room may have altered. Jordon Jones is an example of a player whose been injured frequently throughout this season. Mellish yeah…committed player but not really working out in the Williamson line up. We just don’t make chances!
