    • @BeyondFabric
      @BeyondFabric 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think it would be super cute quilted!! You can always use batting instead of fusible fleece.

    Would there be a problem using a #5 zipper, instead of an invisible zipper?

    • @BeyondFabric
      @BeyondFabric 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No problem, you would just change it to have the overflap over the zipper which will just thicken that back area- you will need to change the height cut for the top back piece to accommodate it. You can also have the teeth show too.

  • @karenlefkowitz2007

    This is exactly what I was looking for! Do you think velvet fabric would work with this pattern? Would that still need interfacing for the flange?

    • @BeyondFabric
      @BeyondFabric 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi! It depends on the weight of the velvet as to whether it would need interfaced. The one in the video was a mid weight chenille and did not need it. If you are using a home dec./upholstery weight then no. If the velvet is more fluid and does not hold it's shape, then yes. If not sure, it never hurts to do a lightweight interfacing :) it will just stand up a little more.

    I’m using 55” wide fabric (selvages removed). My window width is 64”. So, for 2 ties, how many inches wide should each panel of fabric be?

    • @BeyondFabric
      @BeyondFabric 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If your window is 64" and each shade will have 2 ties- I would do just 2 shades at a finished 32" (cut size would be 35") or piece the fabric to make one big shade with 4 ties. You can always email me at sar.claxton@beyondfabricinc.com or call the shop to discuss further. :)

  • @nancyhessler3358
    @nancyhessler3358 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Okay so I’m stuck at time stamp 2:40. Doing the math. I see where you added the 14+ 1 1/2 + 4 where I’m lost is you added an extra 1 1/2 to the 2 inch for the header to make it 7 but you already included the 1 1/2 to the 14 at the start. Ugh sorry for being a pain.

    • @BeyondFabric
      @BeyondFabric 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Not a pain at all! So the 14 " is the finished height from rod down. The 4" at the bottom is for 2" folded up on the backside and then folded again to create the weighted hem and have no raw edge exposed. The header sits above the rod, so you have 1.5" showing on the front, 1.5" going down the back to that rod top and then 2" for the rod pocket. Now you need to go back up the 2" of the rod pocket and 1.5" for the header. This gives stability to the top and removes any raw edges. So all together that is 8.5" which is the 1.5" + the 7". The 7" was all on the backside of the valence and the 1.5" was showing above the rod on the front side. For every front there is a back :) Hope this helps- if still confused, you can always call the shop (912) 673-8662 and I can walk you through over the phone.

    I am 3 valences into a 6-window kitchen, and my windows are 3 different heights and widths. I'm working with plaid fabric, so I'm also dealing with matching the pattern as I make curtains for my 2 sets of adjacent windows. Your video made it so easy for me to construct balanced, proportional valences for each window size. It took me 2 hours to measure out and sew my first valence, but once I got the hang of it, I was able to do the other ones in less than an hour. The illustrated math at the beginning of the video was very helpful. Thank you so much.

    Great instructions and visuals are excellent! Thank you SO much. I feel like I CAN do this. I have sewn since I was about 8 years old but have only made pillow covers with a flap type closure on wrong side. Also do not love to install zippers, not sure why, they are not THAT hard. Would you use the same size cord for a 20 x 20 inch sofa pillow? Thinking to bias fabric width would need to be cut a bit wider if cord was much bigger

    • @BeyondFabric
      @BeyondFabric 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use the same size cording for most of my pillow sizes. On larger Euro bed pillows-26" to 30"- I will go up to a larger cording, especially if I want to make a statement. :) If you go with a larger size, the bias strip size will change. I will cut a tester fabric strip and make about a 6"-9" cording tester piece to make sure the size is correct before cutting the fabric to be used for a project. Thank you for watching the video! Happy Sewing!

    Before zipper install, I know you marked off 3.5 inches from both edges But in video it looks like zipper is installed to start and finish into that 3.5 inches ? Please advise. Thank you! And is that piece the 4" x 25" ?

    • @BeyondFabric
      @BeyondFabric 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You will need to sew the bottom and top fabric pieces together, 3.5" from both sides and then install the zipper starting at about 3" from each side so it will be at least .5" from the opening. The zipper is longer so we do not have to sew near the pull but it is not sewn from end to end. You will see after it is sewn to each side, the excess its cut off. Hope this clarifies. :)

    For those of us who are "voluptuous" ladies, the 21" width might not be wide enough. I'm extending mine to 28" so the sides where my pens/pencils are fall on the sides rather than in front. Also, for those of us who are newbies, she mentions at 15:43 that you will need a larger needle -- a 14 or even a 16, to sew through the heavy layers.

    For us new sewists, it would've been helpful to define "home dec" (which I thought was "home deck," as in outdoor furniture fabric). Luckily Joann's website has an entire "home dec" section that lists cotton duck, canvas, etc. so I know what type of material to get for my apron (I got cotton duck) and whether it will need stabilizer (according to the video, it doesn't).

    • @BeyondFabric

    Are there other alternates for the rice?

      You can also try whole dried corn (like feed corn), flaxseed, or walnut shells.

    Excellent! Thank you for your teaching! How much material are you using for your skirt?

      For this one I used 1.5 yd of 44" wide fabric.

    One more question. I'm re-watching the video so that I'm figuring out my fabric and lining length & width properly. At around 2 min's you start talking about the upper hem with the tabs. It appears the 1/2 inch at the top might have gotten added twice? My curtains are going to be inset, so I want to make sure I'm figuring out my measurements correctly.

      The 1/2" at the top just gives added assurance that the rod won't show. So when calculating your cut size you have your front measurements and then the back measurements (which is your hem and header). On the front you have your finished height plus the 1/2" above rod for assurance. On the back you have the 1/2" + rod pocket size for the tabs and then you double that because the fabric goes back to the top to give structure to the top of your panel. On the liner it just goes to the top not folded over. On the back you also have the hem amount which if you have a 3" hem, you add 6". The 1/2" is actually added 3 times because you have it on the front, back, and then folded back inside to the top. Hope this clarifies. :) Good luck!

    You deserve more views, well explained and I like the idea of stabilizing the hem part.

    I've found a cotton quilt fabric I like and fits the decor of the room that I plan to make curtains for. Would you wash & dry the fabric prior to making the curtains? Also, what liner did you use?

    • @BeyondFabric
      @BeyondFabric 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you plan on washing the curtains regularly, then yes prewash. Because you are using quilt weight cotton which is a lighter weight than home dec., use a heavier drapery liner than what I used in the video. Go with more of the cotton sateen mid weight liner.

    Are you referring to the bottom as the hip? And you got 28 for the waist but said 14 for the "hip". Should it be 15? If it's 28/2=14 the add 1??? I'm more confused now than ever. Also what is the steps 4 and 5 for? Why is it halfed yet again?

    • @BeyondFabric
      @BeyondFabric 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry for any confusion. The worksheet is intended to go in order with the steps. So on the left of the worksheet you will see an example using specific measurements different than what was in the video. In the video- 21 was the waist, 28 was the fullest part of hip (which we call bottom). Following the worksheet you need to get your waist, hip and desired length(dl). Next determine how full you want this skirt. We used a multiplier of 1.5 for 1.5 fullness. Step 1- take your waist (top of skirt) and multiply it by your fullness multiplier. Then divide it by 2 because you will have a front piece and a back piece. Then add 1" to that measurement for seam allowance. Now you have your top number. Step 2- Take your fullest hip measurement and multiply it by your fullness multiplier. Then divide by 2 and add 1". Now that will be your bottom number. Step 3- Determine you desired length and add 1". Step 4- We will be working from the fold of your fabric so the left and right side are identical. Because of that when you fold your front piece fabric in half to mark from- you will need to take your number you ended up with in Step 1 and divide by 2 because we are working with half the fabric. The same with Step 5- you will need to take the final number from Step 2 and divide by 2. Get your numbers and then follow along with the video one step at a time. If you are still confused, you can always email me at sara.claxton@beyondfabricinc.com or call the store (912) 673-8662 and I can try a different approach to walk you through it. :)
