The Introvert Hiker
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 7 ส.ค. 2011
Hike along with me for video trip reports of northwest Washington State trails. I concentrate primarily in the Mount Baker - Snoqualmie National Forest area, but venture elsewhere as often as possible. My hikes feature no music, no talking - just the trails and nature, as you would experience yourself.
2024 #24 Goat Mountain
Wikipedia: Goat Mountain is a 6,844-foot (2,086-metre) summit in the Skagit Range which is a subset of the North Cascades of Washington state.[4] It is located south of Mount Larrabee and north of Mount Shuksan in the Mount Baker Wilderness, which is managed by the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Goat Mountain has a subsidiary 6,725 ft summit known as the west peak, and remnants of what was colloquially known as the Swamp Creek Glacier rest on the northern slope between the two summits. The nearest higher neighbor is Mount Chardonnay, 2.75 mi (4.43 km) to the east.[1] The Silver Tip Mine was located on the south slope of the mountain near the 3,000 ft level. The mine produced silver and gold in the 1940s.[5] Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains into tributaries of the Fraser River and the Nooksack River.

2024 #22 Big Four Ice Caves with Ripley
มุมมอง 1034 หลายเดือนก่อน
My Granddaughter's first hike. Auguest 26, 2024. We visited the Big Four Ice Caves, and learned several important hiking rules, such as leave no trace, and that uphill hikers have the right of way. She learned that ice caves are very dangerous, and not to go near or inside them.
2024 #21 Slesse Memorial Trail
มุมมอง 4865 หลายเดือนก่อน
On December 9, 1956, Trans-Canada flight 810 departed from Vancouver with 62 souls on board. It's destination was Calgary. It never arrived. In May 1957, wreckage of the aircraft was finally located on Mount Slesse. Due to the inaccessibility of the area, the wreckage and remains of the victims remain on the mountain. The Slesse Memorial Trail leads to a memorial, with views of Slesse Mountain,...

This is the only trail in the Mt. Baker Ranger District allowing mountain bikes and motorcycles. Start in an old clear cut on the Damfino Lakes Trail 625 and quickly enter mature forest. In 0.7 miles encounter a junction, take the left fork on Canyon Ridge Trail 689, turn left and continue 0.5 mile to the junction with Boundary Way Trail 688. 2024 #17 Lanham Lake
มุมมอง 2816 หลายเดือนก่อน
From leavenworth.org/trail/lanham-lake/ This forested lake is not the most spectacular hike in the area but it’s a fun jaunt for family picnics. Part of the hike goes under power lines which make an eerie noise like sizzling bacon. The trail is steep and hot so bring water and be sure to have a healthy supply of treats to get your kids to the top. From the Stevens Pass Nordic Center find the La...

"Seattle City Light’s first superintendent, J.D. Ross installed colored lights at the falls in the 1920s and 30s to create “a paradise of color in the wilderness.” The lights were part of his dedicated efforts to win public appreciation for the municipally owned Skagit Hydroelectric Project. The designs were largely a product of his personal idea’s and inspirations for artistic illumination. Fo...
2024 #15 Talapus and Olallie Lakes
มุมมอง 3767 หลายเดือนก่อน
This was a very pleasant hike along a beautiful forest floor with gentle elevation gain to two small lakes. Campsites were available at both lakes, and I am told it is a very popular hike, and the 30 or so other people we passed was about as sparsly populated as one will find here.
2024 #14 Putrid Pete's Peak Attempt
มุมมอง 3147 หลายเดือนก่อน
I knew that this hike would be steep, with some scrambling, but after 400 feet of scrambling upwards, I looked downslope and came to the realization that it was a little too exposed for my comfort level, being a solo hiker. I was about halfway up the exposed section of the scramble, so this video will give you a good idea what to expect of this trail up to this point. Other videos posted seem t...

I love the sound track; same as it was for me 25 years ago.
Having just watched a video on the geological history and composition, your video of the scenery was a nice juxtaposition. I appreciate your adding the names of the landmarks.
Nice trail. Thanks for sharing. 👍18
Beautiful area, the fall colors were really popping out.
Nice and quiet over there! Thanks for uploading.
What a beautiful hike! Stunning views 🗻
Wow, those are some gorgeous sceneries. How long did this hike take you to get to Lyman Lake and how much weight is your pack? I'd love to plan a hike there for 2025.
My total moving time, out and back, was 12 hours, so figure 6 hours each way. I probably had about 40 pounds in my pack. Be prepared for the worst mosquito swarms ever at Lyman.
@@ttirremttocs Thanks for the info. Especially of the mosquito swarms. atleast i can be ready for them now. lol
Ironic that I just found this video when I wasn't looking for it. I found your site a couple months ago and today I looked at your list of all your videos. It was fun to find this one as I just went to these tarns a couple weeks ago on August 10th, 2024. This was really fun to see this scenery again. I'm a little conflicted about this location getting more and more discovered and talked about online, but, oh well, it's nice that people can experience this incredibly beautiful place. I suppose the difficulty of the scramble to reach it may keep the numbers of visitors down a little bit. Thanks for posting! I'll be watching more of your videos.
one of the best hikes!! great spot🌲🌲🌲
Is there still a big Boulder taking up the whole trail just before the catwalk?
No, I did not see any obstacles.
my Alltrail app tracked the last mile with a 1500 ft elevation gain (including part of the ridge line traverse)😅
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. 👍3
I've never heard of sleese cairn, is this in the north cascades or maybe the pickett range?
or Mt. Slesse in Chilliwack, BC?
It's just across the border in British Columbia.
The cairn is the monument to a plane crash in 1956. 60 + people.
How many miles is it round trip?
I love the Newberry Volcanic area. Plan on going back there this Fall to explore more of these lava trails and take-in that beautiful geology. Cheers!
It looks like there is 300 yards of tricky trail where you need to be super cautious and careful not to fall.. The views are stunning
Thank you for sharing this, you've inspired me to get up there soon!
How steep is the incline up relative to Rattlesnake Ledge? Awesome video!!
We have several like that in the eastern mountains of Appalachia. Sheer rock wall on one side and a thousand foot drop straight down, but with a great view.
Beautiful video. Amazing views. Enjoyed watching it very much. Thank you for sharing. 👍 1
Wow this hike looks amazing. I dispersed camped in my truck kinda near there a couple of years ago and you’re right about those roads, very rough. I think I might try this hike this year before it gets snowy again. Great video, I ran across your trip report on WTA and recognized your pic.
Beautiful video. Thanks for sharing. 👍6
Excellent video. Very informative. Thanks for the update on the road to the th.
How were the bugs? We are heading up Excelsior this weekend.
Mosquitoes were present. I applied repellent and had no issues. Not too bad.
thanks, beautiful!
What a great hike.
Thanks for sharing! This trail has always seemed too short for the drive to get to it but maybe I'll have to combine it with something else some time
You can continue up the road at the Nordic Center and access the PCT to Josephine Lake, which is another fairly easy hike. I have a video for that on my channel as well.
Cool trip!
As a fellow introvert it’s always nice starting a trail out in a nearly empty parking lot. A lakes surrounded by mountains are always beautiful.
Is there any old growth up there? Looks like mostly smaller trees from your video, but I couldn't tell for sure. I love old growth so i'm just curious.
No old growth, sadly. Have you checked out Rockport State Park? There is a loop trail through gorgeous old growth. Also, Trail of the Cedars at Newhalem has gorgeous old growth cedars.
@@ttirremttocs No I haven't been on either of those trails, but thank you for the suggestions. I live in oregon so I don't get to visit the washington cascades as much i'd like. I am planning on backpacking up to surprise lake though in mid july, I was there once with my hiking club a long time ago. I remember that trail had some really nice old growth and surprise and glacier lakes being really pretty. Another area I really want to explore someday too is the Suiattle river, there is a trail in that area called milk creek which is supposed to go one of the largest western hemlock trees in all of the cascades.
@@danielmoung9098 It's my understanding that the bridge crossing the Suiattle River to the Milk Creek trail washed out several years back, so accessing Milk Creek Trail will require a potentially dangerous crossing of the Suiattle River. Ive done the Suiattle River trail up to Miner's Ridge. It looks like you could take the Suiattle River trail to the PCT and then use the PCT to access Milk Creek Trail from the back end, which I have considered.
I did this one a few years back I believe. Got eaten by flies….or skeeters…
Beautiful area for a hike. I appreciate that you leave the natural sounds of the trail in rather than put music in your videos.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. 👍2
Altho I’ve used Newhalem Campground many times as a base camp for day hiking, I’ve never seen the light show.. so thanks! Fun!
Very pleasant looking hiking trail and beautiful lakes. You certainly earned a mellow trail after that steep one in your last video.
it is a notorious trail for scrambling down. You could walk the ridge across to west defiance after reaching the top, and come down back to the trailhead via Mason Lake.. That is a nice loop I did last year
That hike looks brutal but you made it to a spot with some great views.
The breathing….i feel you brother.
Your efforts in trying to demonstrate what the trail is like are appreciated. Summit views are fine, but the trail details are important to convey for challenge hikes like P3. I also understand the difficulties in giving the viewers a good idea of the incline of a steep trail with a camera.
Wow, @ 2:40 is just an amazing look into the woods!
What a name for this peak! Great hike and views even though you didn’t complete! Those scree fields were no joke! 👌👍👍
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for posting
Awesome great info
Beautiful hike! I’ve just been there one time- it was at the end of August… pretty to see it in the spring! The Carbon River is so powerful, beautiful lake and wonderful waterfall! 👌👍👍
I had never been to MRNP before this. The old growth forest was amazing. It was the highlight of the hike for me.
@@ttirremttocs I loved that too! You picked a nice quiet spot in the park- Amazing trees! The Paradise area can be quite crowded!
Wonderful scenery and a beautiful day for that hike.
Beautiful place. Nice video. Thanks for sharing. 👍4
One of my favorite places MRNP.
Beautiful views. Great video. Thank you for sharing.
This is now on my bucket list.
