Kodak 3A Using 120 Roll Film - Frame Spacing 1,3,5,7
มุมมอง 14K10 ปีที่แล้ว
The Kodak 3A camera was designed to take 122 roll film which is no longer made, so I made spacers so I could load 120 film, but you have to use frames 1,3,5,7 in the window to get 4 shots per film, this video shows this. You could probably squeeze 5 out of a film, but this is a nice easy way.

    Be careful when taking this lens to some countries. I went to Russia in 2022 to photograph hot models, I got this lens confiscated at Moscow airport. Freaking bastards. I paid 3000$ with adapter for Pentax 67. Russians guys came with dogs and special forces to block me and started to measure. Obviously their method of measuring were false they just put so close to rear element to it was screaming radiation but once they were like 15cm it was normal , they didn’t respected measuring protocol and when I requested the manual protocol they said it’s too secret. Haha top secret my ass. Received answer from them , because they send the lens to the lab. Answer « must be buried immediately, extremely dangerous for public health » . Yeah my ass , sent to Ukrainian war that’s what they meant. But I agree it’s a highly radioactive lens , be careful

    Thankfully the double-8 cine film is again available. Enjoyed your home movies, especially the gardening part, but liked the modern age drone flights being filmed with a 80 year old kodak camera. Wish George Eastman could have seen that, or even guessed his miracle would still stir people's imaginations today. Thank you.

    • @Garglon
      @Garglon 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Carl, yes it is still working, incredibly reliable. We had one problem with the light sensor on the original unit, but Chicken Guard sent us a new one and were very helpful on the phone. The sticky front protective panel became brittle after about a year but again they sent us a new one with no hassle. We change the batteries about twice a year. We only use the timer to open and close now and just adjust the time every few weeks as the season progresses. We just wouldn't keep chickens without this device, it's excellent.

      The door is a very light weight aluminium one, is yours a heavier wooden one perhaps?

  • @Garglon
    @Garglon 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    To make the adapters you need two spare 120 plastic spools. Take one of the spools and load it in the camera and measure the gap that's left to fill (make it a couple of mm shorter than the space so it will fit in). Cut the reel with a junior hacksaw and then insert a large paper clip bent over down the side, secure this with electrical tape. Then put this on the end of a normal sized spool for your take up spool, and another on the film spool. I'll do a video when I have a little spare time.

  • @Garglon
    @Garglon 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    They worked pretty well, but there must have been some light bouncing around inside and this showed up in places on the film. I've now put a piece of thin black cardboard (artist board) in the gap left above the film, using black electrical tape to stick it down. Haven't had a chance to try it since, will let you know how I get on.

    I now exclusively use the Pocket Light Meter app on my iPhone to take light meter readings for just about everything. Set the app to 100ASA and set the speed on it to 1/40th (shutter fully open,18fps) - you can actually see the scene on the iPhone and the app gives you the correct aperture. You can tap on various parts of the scene and the app takes the light reading for that area and the aperture adjusts. If you half close the shutter, just adjust the speed to 1/80th sec. Hope this helps.

  • @Garglon
    @Garglon 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Nate, I have mine set so that the "15" mark on the inner ring lines up with the "18" (fps) mark on the outer ring (I run the camera at 18fps as that is what my projector runs at. Having said that, I came to this setting by using a light meter set at 100ASA and 1/40th second (close enough to 1/43rd second shutter fully open at 18fps), and then compared the camera against the light meter, adjusting the camera until they agreed. More in the next post, running out of characters!

  • @nchapmanproductions
    @nchapmanproductions 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, I have a B8L as well and wondering how you shot the 100D film without over exposing since the built in meter is meant for the older, lower ASA film stocks? Were you able to just shorten the shutter angle or did you shoot mainly at f 16- 22 ? Did you use ND filters? What frame rate/shutter angle/ f stops were you using? Your film turned out great and I already ruined 1 roll by over exposing, so I want to try and avoid that this time. Thanks a lot!

    I’m always impressed when people methodically take dosage rates at various distances-that’s how to do it right. You got the complete package, with what looks to be an original wartime box. You can determine the production date of the lens using this code: where C=1, A=2, M=3, E=4, Y=0 etc. EA= 1942. EE = 1944 etc.

      @@daveandrews6384 ER means is was made in 1945. In the early 1940s Kodak made up the word "Camerosity" with 10 non-repeating letters so they could include the last 2 digits of the production year at the start of a lens serial number. Kodak parts in the UK used the word "Cumberland." C A M E R O S I T Y 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 C U M B E R L A N D

    Hi spangleJ, it looks as if the ASA ruled against Clearview on all three counts rather than for them. All I will say is since buying this stove I've stayed in many country rental cottages and the non-Clearview (ie cheaper) stoves are without exception inferior to Clearview. There is always some problem with the non-Clearview stoves; tricky to get going, blacken the glass, poor quality, not a good view of the fire, lack of control, the list goes on. Save a few quid or buy the best.
