Ultimately USC should have gone to the title game over OU, becasue the Big 12 would get exposed badly in bowl season. K-State went on to lose to Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl and OU lost to LSU in the title game. Matter of fact the Big 12 had a disastrous bowl season in 2003 going 2-6, and one of the two teams that won that year, Nebraska, OU didn't even play that year! I know Texas won in '05 but even that needed a crazy comeback to do and the conference hasn't won a title since. It was really this year that I thought the conference had ran its course and there hasn't really been a true world-beater team since

This was a memorable day in college football for three reasons. One was the tackle at 5:44 - often dubbed the worst no-call in history. Hard to see with the low resolution but it was a facemask grab where Crouch's helmet literally was twisted 180º around as he was pulled to the ground backwards by only the facemask. Two was at 6:09 where KSU, up 34-30, scored to go up 40-30. Notice that's the final score. Why no extra point? Bill Snyder correctly realized Nebraska might get one lucky score, but couldn't possibly score twice in 4 seconds, so all he needed to do was have a 2-score lead. The *only* way he would fail to have a 2-score lead is if NU got a defensive 2-point conversion off a blocked kick or bad snap or something. So he kneeled the ball on the conversion to have a 100% chance instead of a 99.99% chance to win. The line was KSU by 10.5, so his decision swung the cover/no-cover in one of the most crazy betting moments in sports history. Three was that, at almost the exact same time that KSU scored that fumble return TD to go up 40-30, a more well-known fumble happened elsewhere - Clint Stoener of Arkansas slipped after taking the snap and put his hand out to stop his fall - that hand held the ball, and he lost control. The "Stumble And Fumble" as it was called, allowed Tennessee to recover and win the game, putting the Vols in the National Title Game. All three of those moments within 15 minutes or so of real time.

Most Hypseman winners wait until their bowl game, or their NFL career, to throw away a big game like this.

Really? 3-5 B10 Michigan gets selected over a 5-3 (conference) Nebraska for the BWW Bowl to play K-State. Wow. Why? UN-L was selected to REPLAY Georgia in Jacksonville instead of Orlando. Is this a new rivalry no one has heard of? Isn't this what the defectors were talking about? Meeting old rivals in bowl games. Cannot believe this. Don't blame UN-L, though they probably, or rather, their higher-ups had some say. We'd be glad to play and possible erase our memory of Martinez running wild, while T-Magic was still at the helm. Wait for a favorable year, is what I'd do, if I were Tom Osbourne. Would rather have ASU in Holiday if we'd known the 8th B10 was gonna be our opponent. Bowl games are dumb.

My apologies. I meant we did, and continue to, strive for excellence in the pursuit of perfection. Your opinion on the great '95 husker team is shared by many, but can never be proven. They dominated their time and place, but the game has changed. The '01 hurrianes, '04 trojans, '05 longhorns all were explosively good, and teams are just getting better, methods more intricate, kids stronger. Should have lost? 15 yards leaves you at your 47 with a first down, you needed a touchdown to win. Sorry.
