I made $2,000 selling used burlap sacks
The story of a guy with a silly idea: could he build a business selling used burlap sacks?
I'll tell you right from the start: this isn't a business success story.
Sure - thing started off okay: there was profit and revnue in month #1 but things never really took off from there.
This video is my attempt to tell an honest story about what worked and didn't work.

One graph explains Netflix's most popular shows

Netflix just did something they have never done before: They shared the hours viewed for every title they offer - and there is something very interesting hiding in the mountains of data. You see most Netflix titles aren't notably popular - but a few are. And very few that break out, break out A LOT. The most popular Netflix titles are SO MUCH more popular than the average Netflix title. This is...
He went bankrupt building this mansion

Can a mansion be TOO big? George Vanderbilt built the Biltmore - the largest mansion in North America. But here's the thing: Vanderbilt spent very little time there. It was too big. Didn't feel like a house. He himself called it: "utterly unaddressed to any arrangement of normal life." This is my exploration of the world of mansions and large homes. Do these homes make sense? Can they be too bi...

Why does Apple use cliches EVERYWHERE?

There's this one marketing trick that Apple uses all the time in their copywriting: they "tweak" a cliche. They take a cliche - something we're all familiar with - and they subvert our expectations by changing it up. By doing so, they hope it strikes you as clever or memorable. In todays video I attempt to reverse engineer this marketing trick with a special dictionary and using ChatGPT. The re...

    As someone who consistently goes to the gym 4 times a week, and does 10-12k steps each day for the past 5 years, I can tell you that you cannot rely on discipline alone and you shouldn't. Discipline and motivation are necessary to start a routine. But you cannot rely on them alone. We all have bad days, we all have things going on. We are not always motivated and if we are gonna power through on sheer willpower alone, we would get mentally burned out. Instead, think of discipline and motivation as tools. Use them to develop healthy habits and get into routines. Once you develop a routine, it's a lot easier to stick to it. Don't get discouraged if you have to skip once or twice. A few bumps in the road don't matter in the long run. Consistency and showing up over a long period of time (years or sometimes forever) is what truly matters.

    Get a smartwatch. That's how you get addicted to getting your steps in every day. Also switch the way you think about it. Instead of trying to work while on a treadmill, try to get your steps in the treadmill while knocking some of your work done. The treadmill desk is also best when trying to do something for leisure like browsing the web or videos where you don't have to concentrate too hard.

    It’s not surprising you didn’t loose weight in just 30 days, but it can actually have a meaningful impact in the long term. An average man expends 150-200 calories per hour of walking, so if you walk 20minutes a day that’s 10 hours of walking per month which will equate to burning 1500-2000 calories per month, which is 18-24 thousand calories. A pound of fat loss is 3500 calories so in a year you could loose 5-7 pounds a year, that’s not bad, specially if it becomes a habit and you slowly increase the number of steps.

    The reason no weight was lost with the treadmill exercises was because it was not being done at a high enough intensity. What's actually needed is a high intensity interval training program. So you start slow and then increase your speed incrementally over time, until you're doing a final 30-second burst of sprinting at 95% to 100% of your maximum heart rate. In fact if you only do this 30-second burst once every 2 days (or three times a week), it will allow any calorie deficit you're enforcing to do it's job by preventing your body from going into starvation mode and slowing your metabolism as a result of eating fewer calories. So by keeping your metabolism high through this effect called "excess post-exercise oxygen consumption" (EPOC), aka the "afterburn effect", your body continues to burn calories at an elevated rate even after you've finished exercising.

      My goal wasn’t to lose weight - I’m pretty explicit about that in the video :)

    • @gingerperksgaming
      @gingerperksgaming 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You can lose weight from doing this (especially 10k steps a day), it’s all about the food. You don’t need to do high intensity (hiit) to lose weight. Technically you can be sedentary and lose weight as it’s all about calories

    • @mikmop
      @mikmop 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@gingerperksgaming The problem with trying to lose weight through a caloric deficit only, is that your body goes into starvation mode in an effort to conserve energy and it slows down your metabolism so you you'll then burn fewer calories at rest. And when you start eating normally again, because your metabolism has slowed down, it then takes a while to re-adjust back to normal, so your regular caloric intake will then make you put back all the weight you've lost. Furthermore, without adequate protein intake or strength training, your body will also start breaking down muscle tissue for energy, so about a third of your weight loss will be muscle tissue with the other two thirds being fat. This further decreases your metabolic rate because muscle tissue burns more calories than fat. Therefore the only way to keep your metabolism high is through doing cardio and strength training and . And that way it allows the caloric deficit to do it's job and all of the weight you lose will be fat and not muscle tissue.

    • @jansen6583
      @jansen6583 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MacIraq well from food. but tbh I just watched a kurzgesagt TH-cam video saying that your body adjusts to your level of activity. So if you run 5 kilometers every day your body will adjust over time (like in a few days) and then you just burn about the same amount of calories again. You're body will become more efficient in calory usage vs the amount of activity. That's what I understood from it. :)

    Just try walking a bit faster on it, emulate the "commuting way": 3 mph and faster, for 10 minutes or so at a time. "Very slow walk while editing videos" will surely make you sick. Try just walking quickly while listening to music or watching somebody talking :-)

      Oh very interesting - hadn’t considered that! Will have to try. Thanks for the tip!

  • @walsky1
    @walsky1 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'd set not a "steps goal", but a "mode goal". When you commute, you walk faster. Your heats beats the other way. You are not trying to do something at the same time. And then you feel refreshed. It's another mode of walking. I also have a walking treadmill in my room. I watched this video while walking at 3.7 mph. I feel refreshed now :-) So if you still have it - it might be a good idea to change the walking mode. And change the goal to "for X minutes per day to be in THAT walking mode".
