They should have kept this in. It doesn't clash with the rest of the movie, it completes it. There was such an onslaught of tragedy and despair in the movie that when Paimon won it was almost a relief. This would have given us a moment of light and hope, a reminder that these are people who *could have* healed and lived together as a happy family. It would have made the tragedy in the end more powerful.

i cant believe i didnt see this. this almost drove me to tears. i get the intention for cutting it but i do wish this wasnt cut. even just the slightest ounce of comfort for peter. this is such a good look into the dynamic for what it really was at least originally. love the dad (we needed MORE of him - i'd say the dog too but in a way i get why the dog was such a BG character, like the dog was meant to sort of be just... a dog for the family itself, yet sort of 'insignificant' in the way that steve was i suppose? idk how to describe it), and annie sobbing out "im sorry", and peter unintentionally repeating annie's "i want to die". fucking yowch </3

They could have left this in if they just removed Annie saying sorry, we could hear her cry and that would communicate enough. I’m pretty sure the paint thinner nightmare would play immediately after this. I don’t see the argument that it detracts from the dour and oppressive tone to hear Peter apologize and give Steve more development. Even if there is one moment of respite in the whole film, the scene would make the story and characters better, which I believe is just as important as tonal consistency.

Id like to think that in an alternate universe, if everyone just put aside their egos and forgave everyone, they wouldve lived passed this horrible moment in their lives. This scene wouldve redeemed everyone... I get why Ari removed this, it relieved too much of the loneliness and tension that exists in the original film.
