@@RhondaJanePottery thanks so much Rhonda 🙏💜
New sub here! Your work is beautiful! Going in to year #3 as a hobby potter. I'm in love!
@@janetlarue1231 aww thank you so much! So happy you found me 🙂
❤
Completed a 6 week beginners course and now moving onto a further set of classes where you make your own projects. I plan to start focusing on hand building to get to know the clay, so best books on handbuilding would be great to hear about. I have your book, which is a treat to look through as well as very accessible.
Awesome Elena! No problem I will be creating a vid for the best hand building books soon 🙂 Thank you so much for buying my book 💜🙏
Wonderful. Love your extended wheel legs! I am a tall gal and have started on an ancient new to me Estrin wheel. Dreaming of a new wheel!
Thanks so much for this!

Seeing your face always make me feel more cheerful. Even the rainy overcast lends a cozy atmosphere to feel of your video. ((hugs)) 🥰✨
Oh thank you! That’s so kind🥹
It was lovely to see your studio set up! Thank you for sharing that! I also work in the same way as you, I like to make a big batch of items and then I move on to the next stage and so on, I can spend a good week or two glazing as I do it all together and paint the glaze on by hand. I also fire my kiln only a couple of times a month! It was very reassuring to me to see that you work in this way also, I’m just a hobby potter but I have sold my work in the past and I’m aiming to do so again one day! As I said, it’s lovely to know that my set up isn’t weird or anything, and that I’m working in an efficient way! I really enjoyed your tour of your studio and I’m also looking forward to receiving your new book, although I think Amazon won’t deliver that now until late March? Thank you for your videos, they are so good! 👍🏼🤗 Lisa x
Thank you so much for watching Lisa! Definitely not weird. I know lots of potters who work this way. I find working in batches the most efficient for the space I have. Thank you SO much for ordering my new book!!! It has been delayed by a couple of weeks but I promise it will be worth the wait 😊
Wow, you’ve got your glazing off to a fine art, which of course is what it is🫡
Thank you so much 🙏 It's taken years of practice and I still mess up sometimes.
They are so beautiful ❤
@@Zai-yo7qf thank you so much! ☺️
Great video❤ Thanks for the tips!!
You are so welcome!
What type of plaster do you recomend?
I include a couple of options in the video. For this I used Keramicast.
The best video describing how to pull a cylinder!! Great tips to figure out how I keep messing up! Thank you for posting!
Thank you so so much! that really means a lot.
Great to find someone understands we have start some where thankyou
Thank you for watching I'm glad it's helpful.
If the top is too fragile do you disregard the trim and maybe use sandpaper?
I sometimes do need to tidy up the rim afterwards with a sponge. I dont tend to use sand paper because of dust. I throw the rim to be 2 - 3mm thick. I also 'set the rim' after every pull so it's strong and can withstand the trimming process.
Congratulations , 🎉
Thank you so much 😀
You really need a real propane torch. It will heat those coils cherry red in seconds and make the job a breeze. If you break an element, heat the ends about 2 cm red hot and twist them together. I repair kilns.
Thank you for the tip!
@@KaraLeighFordCeramics You're very welcome. Old kanthal coils are extreamly brittle when cold, but workable hot. Just remember the coils always need to be cherry red hot while you''re twisting them together or pushing them back into the brick slots, or they'll break. The hotter they are, the softer they become.. If you need to contract a stretched coil, heat to red hot and squeeze the coil axially with needle nose pliers. Good luck !
Love your work 😍 and what’s the kiln you use?
thank you! it's a Rohde TE-95S
Plates are so fun to make! Ceramic bat?
yes they are!! Defo recommend a batt.
So well done. Watching from Germany 😊❤
Awesome! Thank you!
Gosh so freaking pretty

Thank you so much!
Thank you it is the best explanetion i have seen ❤❤❤
this is such a soothing video i love the way you film things <3
Glad you enjoy it!
Lovely! Then how do you make sure it’s in the right place to trim?
Im not sure I know what you mean.

I've looked at many pottery videos and for me this throwing tutorial is one of the best I've seen. Her description of what she is doing at each stage makes it much easier for me to emulate. Thank you.

When you make your dragonfly tool, do you measure the outside diameter or the inside? to make the horizontal piece
I measure the outside.
Hello! Thank you so much for this video, I've been wanting to know what to expect as I am going for the first time this year (2025)! I would love to meet up with you if you have any desire for another pottery buddy while there if you're going again! I feel like I will be a bit of a lost sheep lol.
Utilizing tools instead of hands 👌 amazing idea, I hate the feeling of really wet clay

Love your content! QQ..where are your shelves from?
They're from a company called The Design Shack on Etsy.
Cat didn’t realize it became internet star 😅 Thank you for lovely video
Very helpful, thank you 😊
Glad it was helpful!
How do you secure the bowl to the wheel? I usually use lil' blobs of clay to anchor it, but that causes me problems when trying to trim the whole bowl. I don't see any blobs on yours, how are you gettting it to stay in place?
I dampen the rim. This creates an airlock which keeps the bowl attached to the wheel. Try it!
@@KaraLeighFordCeramics thank you!!!
Lovely video! Can I ask.... Do the under-bed storage boxes have completely flat bottoms inside? If so, can you point me to where you get them? I have some but they have ridges which isn't ideal. Also... do you dry your thrown pots to leather hard and ready to trim in the open on those shelves or do you slow the drying down by placing them into boxes before then? Just wondering about s cracks. Thanks and keep up the lovely videos!
Thanks David 🥰 Yes my ones have a flat base. I think I got them from Wilkos which is a shop in the UK (not sure where you’re based) You could prob get them on Amazon too. I dry my pots in the open and then place them in the box when they’re leather hard. Our weather is generally wet so I can do that.
I love seeing other people’s set ups, thanks so much for sharing☕️🍁
My pleasure, so happy you enjoyed it 😊
