These are _advanced_ mindgames going on here lol.
So you’re not going to rate the GDragon/Taeyang/Daesung performance that all of Korea was talking about so much that the comment section of the performance video is now known as the most active National Group chat? Okay, thanks for wasting my time
I guess it's a good thing the F tier is empty, even considering some of the more “international” releases. I'm going to try to watch the S-tier, at least. I want to see what the… uh, top tier performances look like, haha.
46:08 - Now I'm wondering what happened after they jumped off the scaffolding. I remember a K-POP group tanking a meteor in a music video once, so I'm hoping it's something along those lines, haha.
I like how a lot of K-POP music videos have creative narratives to them, I feel like that's something you don't see to the same extent in western music videos anymore. (I could be wrong, don't quote me on that. 😶)
True! Stories and such always enhance our experience with music videos!
@ Very true! Hopefully not knowing the Korean language won't be too much of an issue when it comes to interpreting the stories in the videos, haha… 😅
I just watched it! I liked the “Meta” element of the main character being an electrician(?) on the set of a K-POP music video who keeps getting shocked until he masters the electricity at the end, I think. Seems like a very unique approach, haha. Also, I liked the editing this short particularly how all the “so”s in “so so so so so agree” were all over the place lol.
Glad you liked the video and thank you for appreciating the editing of the short! 😄
@ You're welcome! 😁 Keep up the good work!
I watched the He + She = We music video and I agree with everything that was said here! It feels like for a lot of music videos you can go “Oh, here's the dancing part” but for that music video it was really… seamless, I guess would be the right word? The song already sounds like the upbeat type of music where people would just dance and generally have fun going through the abandoned(?) building they were in, so it almost seems like the choreography parts and the rest of the music video got put into a blender and became one, if that makes sense, haha.
I like the name Fury X-atron! It sounds like the name of a high-tech robot defender of a city, haha. I hope no one takes this video (or this comment, for that matter) too seriously, but I agree with you about the comments! I like constructive criticism but somehow doing it in the comments section of a music video doesn't seem like the best time. Maybe if they're specifically asking for feedback it's fine but most of the time I don't think that's what they're looking for when they look at their comments. I also agree about people complaining about matching outfits. I kind of expected that sort of thing honestly, so it just seems slightly strange to complain about to me, haha. I liked listening to your thoughts again and I’m looking forward to the Green Flags episode!
Thanks for letting us know what you think! We're glad you liked listening to the episode!
Wow, going by the ending it sounds like the choreography was really something to behold. 😮 Let's hope AMPERS&ONE keeps bringing that same energy making 3 hits in a row! haha
“Roller Coaster era” sounds fun lol. I'm wondering how the music video is like a game ad so I'll have to make a note to watch it. Hopefully it'll remind me of some of my favorites!
I do think it's interesting that artists have their own unique sound! It's almost like the person distilled a piece of themself into the song, haha.
I just watched the “Imaginary Friend” music video and it was awesome! It had a good combo of surreal imagery, dark imagery and glamorous imagery which really appeals to my… music video tastes, I guess you would say? (The dance in front of the burning building is a good encapsulation of this.) Not sure how to describe it but it was a great experience watching it, haha.
Not to spoil anything, but what were the chances the game would end like that? I guess it's sort of satisfying in a way, though. I feel like I've learned so much about what type of K-POP music/videos/behis you watch/listen to. It sort of feels like that every podcast, but *especially* this one, haha. Since you encouraged us to leave Truth or Lies in the comments I'll leave one: In terms of K-POP aesthetics my favorite is fancy hotels and my second favorite is anything edgy-ish. Those are aesthetics, right? I hope so, haha.
Thank you so much for leaving a truth or lie! Ghertrude is going to guess that it is the truth and Devin is going to guess that it is a lie, because she's unsure about the edgy aesthetic part. 🤔🔍 We also recognize your use of "behi" and it is appreciated, haha!
@ It was a truth! 😁 I guess by “edgy” I more meant something like the “POM POM POM” music video by WOOAH rather than anything truly disturbing. I appreciate both of you making guesses and allowing viewer participation like this, though! And thanks! I guess I'm picking up some stuff listening to your podcast, haha.
The Meowtro's so catchy. 🥺 I’m going to have to check that song out later, haha. Looking forward to seeing what future episodes are going to be about now that you're all “caught up” on K-POP releases, haha.
*BlushCat comeback!?* 🫨 _On a Wednesday!?_ Two surprises in one video, haha. I liked all the comparisons you used when you were describing the songs (Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, Anime Ending Songs, A Video Game Ad, etc.) It made my mind race imagining what you were talking about and gave me sort of a point of reference for what it's like, haha. I kind of want to watch and compare now…
Gonzalez Susan Hernandez Christopher Brown Amy
Woo, new BlushCat video! Even if you can't upload as regularly as you want we'll still be here when you get back, haha. I think my favorite was “Insomnia”. It sort of reminds me of Videogame music but maybe not necessarily music made for a video game, maybe something they paid for and put in the final level to hype you up, haha. The determined sounding vocals add to this. I can see a hero ascending up a dark, stormy tower while this plays in the background, to emphasize the sheer *strength of will!* 😤 haha I liked hearing your thoughts as always, though. I agree with you on how good the opening to “Road Movie” was, and… actually, most of your other thoughts on it, too. It sounded so *E P I C* lol.
I definitely find myself going back to Insomnia a lot, one of my favorites for sure! I usually like when songs have a video game feel to them, but I didn't even pick up on those vibes in Insomnia initially. Now that you pointed it out, I like the song even more, haha. It's cool that some of my thoughts on the tracks were relatable as well and that it was an enjoyable listen!
@@BlushCatOfficial Glad I added a new dimension to your listening experience, especially since you said you like the song even more now! haha 🎶🎮
I think it's funny that you mentioned how easy it is to find yourself singing along to a lot of these songs since I kind of imagined a group of friends on a road trip singing most of these songs while I was listening to them. A lot of these songs just have that sort of “me and all my friends have this song memorized and we all turn up the volume and sing whenever it comes on the radio” kind of feeling to them, haha. 2X might seem kind of slow for that but I can imagine it playing during sunset/at night when everyone's asleep or half-asleep and it's chill time, haha. Boom Bari I could still imagine playing on a “Road Trip Playlist”, but I could also imagine it being played at a party… like, maybe a graduation party? I don't know, something about it just makes me think of a dance floor full of people just sort of groovin' along lol. Liked listening to your thoughts as always! Glad you seemed to enjoy all the tracks, I’m not familiar with EVNNE’s usual style but you seemed to like how they were trying to do something different with this album so I’d say they succeeded in branching out! haha
I agree, it would be a great album for a road trip! Thanks for listening to the track by track and checking out the album!
@@BlushCatOfficial You're welcome! I like listening to new music, haha.
Interesting how Japanese releases seem to be pretty common in the K-POP industry. I wonder if the reverse is true, with a lot of J-POP idols having Korean releases?
Everlasting Miracle is the song that you think is a duet isn’t😅 it is a song that is mainly taken sung by Jay Chang but all a the members sing in the song, B.U have no real idea or clue on why the rest of the members have less lines in this song in particular😓 We have many theories that maybe in each future release of a album a song will be mainly sung by one member, or that due to Jay placing 1st throughout the entirety of the whole show that was a little gift for him but again just theories that some fans made
I like the background music (Accendio) it sounds so… artistic? I don't think art galleries usually have music but if they did, this is what I imagine it would sound like, haha. Or maybe it's more of a fashion show sort of vibe? Either way, it gives me a really “high class” feel.
And to think there's more to come since the year's not over yet! haha
The BlushCat hosts suffering the summer heat for us… 😭 🤧 so admirable. Also, I was kind of surprised you said you didn't like many music videos this year but I think I'm going to check out the ones you did mention (And the dances… And the stylings…? I'm probably going to be revisiting this video a lot lol.) since WOOAH’s POM POM POM, Sunmi’s Noir and BLITZERS Macarena music video made me want to see what type of music videos are out there. Finding something that's fun to watch is always… fun, haha. Also, some moments I liked in the video: 43:54 - “…Like denim pants? 'Jeans' 👖 some might call them?” (Weird how only the pants get their own name lol.) 1:14:26 - “…but they are not from this year, and they're not from last year.” _”Oooooh…!”_ 🫣 (Something about how Loremire said Ooh in response made me crack up laughing, hahaha.) Liked listening to your favorites! Hopefully the year has more in store for part 2!
POM POM is still so good listening to it again… ⭐️_⭐️ This short prompted me to watch the music video again, but I ended up watching it a bunch more times lol. For me, it feels like the first few times you listen to it you notice the really high-energy, heart-racing parts but after listening to it some more you notice how well the mellow parts complement those parts and vice-versa. It's like after the slower parts the song goes “Alright, I’m charged up again! Let's Go!” and then it goes back into one of the more intense parts. Very good song. 🤩
Was this a Stage Show or a Music Video? I want to know what to put in the search bar so I can watch it, haha.
You can search "Kep1er Problem music show" or even just "Kep1er Problem" and it should show the stage performances :)
Thank you, BlushCat! I watched it and I wasn't expecting the 90s…(?) Hip-Hop aesthetic, but it was done well and I agree about the styling and stage presence! I like how I never know what to expect when I watch something K-POP related since there's such a variety of styles, haha.
I think they were going for a sci-fi feel in the music video and I can totally hear it in the song! (Especially the distorted vocals at about 35 seconds in… I like that part, haha.) It kind of sounds like alien music in a good way. Like Earth is having a cultural exchange with a bunch of aliens and one of the diplomats from our planet starts listening to this song and goes “ 😮 Woah, is this what you guys listen to? This is pretty boppin'! 😌🎵🎧” 👽: “Reminder to self: look up Earthling slang 'boppin' later.” hahaha
🥲 The Meowtro tribute to Weki Meki. It sounds so tragic what happened to them! It reminds me of a situation I heard of where this creator made a show called “Making Fiends” that was bought by Nickelodeon and put on one of their channels… for a short while, then they never aired or did anything with the show again and the creator can't even make more animations of the thing she created because Nickelodeon is arbitrarily holding it hostage. Large companies neglecting their talent seems to be unfortunately common… Also, I watched Sunmi’s “Balloon In Love” music video, and I don't know why but I like her music videos. It seems more like an upbeat, happy song than “Noir” was, but there's still something about both music videos that I like. (I still like Noir’s sort of zany, unhinged vibes a bit more, though. Haha) I also also watched WOOAH’s POM POM POM and I agree with Devin on it sounding and looking like a “rival” song/music video (The red/black color combo probably helped since that seems to always be what the bad guys wear lol.) But besides that, I like it because of how it sounds like they're really pulling out all the stops and holding nothing back in the song. I’m sure idols always give it their best, but this song just has a really *UNLEASHED* feeling to it, y'know? haha I liked listening to your thoughts as always! Very eloquent about your feelings on the music videos.
It's always nice to hear when others can relate to how we felt about something! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and listening to the episode! Stay meowin'!
@@BlushCatOfficial 🐾
I listened to it, I think it has sort of a nostalgic feeling to it and it reminds me of an earlier style of music. Not sure if it reminds me of 90s music or early 2000s music, though. It kind of reminds me of something that would play in a movie when the main character finally gets to go on a trip or something and there's a “good times” montage happening. It's very upbeat like you said, haha.
From what I'm hearing, whoever thought of this subunit is an artistic genius 🎨🎤🎵 and should probably be promoted into a position where they get to do this sort of thing all day every day, just making subunits for the good of K-POP as a whole, haha. I think a subunit is a group of two (or more?) idols? Just wondering, BlushCat, if you could make a subunit of any two (or more?) idols who would you pick?
Ooh, we actually did a whole episode where we each made a subunit or "supergroup" in the past (before our comeback), so maybe that will be something we can do again soon! Also, yes, a subunit is a group of two or more idols. Usually subunits are made from idols that are already in the same group, but there have been instances of subunits or supergroups with idols from different groups coming together to make a special unit.
@@BlushCatOfficial Another subunit episode sounds like it would be fun to listen to! haha Also thanks for clarifying what a subunit is.
The Meowtro is so catchy this week! 🎵 Also, I was wondering about something and it was brought up at 59:27. Is there any advantage to taking members from various groups and putting them in another group? Why not just promote the original group(s) more? Does the new group made by the show get an inherent popularity boost because of… uh, the show? It seems like very strange behavior, haha.
Usually the main goal of these new groups formed with members already in groups does seem to be to boost the popularity of the members that appear on the program since the programs are usually very popular and people usually end up checking out the original group. Sometimes the original group doesn't even end up benefiting at all though if the show that made the new group wasn't popular, and it's worrying to think that it could actually be negatively impacted by having members appear on a survival program. It can be fun sometimes but we think it certainly would be nice if companies would just properly promote the original groups!
@@BlushCatOfficial Well put and agreed!
I don't think I have much of a reference pool, so I knew I was going to get stomped into the ground for this, haha. 🥲 But I did some guesses anyway! (Not all of them, though, since nothing came to mind for some of them.) Scene #1 Guess : “Sweet Juice” by Purple Kiss - I guess I figured since a lot of the music video happens in a fancy hotel a tea set scene wouldn't be too out of place? Scene #2 Guess - Eve, Psyche And The Bluebeard’s Wife by Le Sserafim - I don't know why I thought of this, since rewatching the video it doesn't fit the aesthetic at all. I guess I figured since there were a lot of indoor scenes maybe someone looked at a notebook at some point? haha Scene #5 Guess - …one of the songs I’ve heard that had a circus feel to them but that I can't remember off the top of my head right now. I figured maybe the music video would match the music? I was still wrong, though. 🫠 I think my favorite aesthetic was… the abandoned library one? (Scene 4, I think.) Iunno, it looks like some sort of post-apocalypse where someone just left the library to rot and you could do urban exploration or see what books the library has and go looting, basically! haha I dunno it looks like it would be a cool place if it were real. Thanks for doing another ASMR video! 'Twas very chill. 😌😴
Thanks for sharing your guesses with us even though you didn't think you'd be able to guess the scenes! It's fun to hear what our descriptions made you think of!
@@BlushCatOfficial Any time! It's not about winning… -it's about sending a message.- it's about having fun! haha
I imagine Giseok must have an at least sort of chill personality for you to associate him with collecting seashells at the beach? I dunno, it just seems like a sort of leisurely and sort of slow-paced (in a good way) activity to me, haha. 🏖️
This kind of makes me wish there _was_ an event where all of the K-POP idols designate a certain day to take off and hit the beach to make a beach episode. (Though, if it's being filmed is it really a day off…? 🤔) I thought of an activity that I don't think was mentioned in the episode: burying people in the sand! I'm not sure who would do that but I imagine maybe any idols who make sort of goofy/zany videos and have fun with it? The one that I think of off the top of my head is BLITZERS MACARENA, so maybe Blitzers would do that? Also the group who played the Zombie game where you “killed” eachother by popping balloons attached to the “zombies” with a pick. That might have been Blitzers again. (Am I supposed to spell the name in all caps? I forget. 😵💫) I dunno, who do you think would bury a member of their group in the sand? I don't feel like I know the idols or K-POP in general to speculate that well (even though I just did). Anyway, I liked hearing your impressions about which idols would fit which beach activities, haha.
That _would_ be a fun event! We actually did briefly discuss who we thought would bury people in the sand, but we didn't consider BLITZERS! We can definitely picture them doing that! Thanks for enjoying The Beach Episode!
@@BlushCatOfficial Oh, I guess my memory's bad. 😓 And you're welcome! For some reason I’m just now noticing that you replied… ugh, I’m feeling too scatterbrained lately.
_Ohh…_ 😮 I looked at the video in the description and I can see where the inspiration for the fanart came from and, y'know, the name and the entire podcast, hahaha. Devin's always been very creative coming up with things on the spur of the moment, like the tangents she goes on for her Let’s Play videos as an example. The BlushCat nickname is no different, hahaha.
I feel very brushed up on my BlushCat lore now! haha (In particular, knowing the origin of the nicknames is something I can stop thinking about now, haha.) Also, I can understand why you decided to make a mascot. Using an actual person’s likeness would be kind of awkward if they ever started watching and went “Wait, I never gave you permission to use my face” etc. Plus I think the new logo fits the channel while still maintaining the same… “essence” or “feel” of the old one, haha.
Getting a win at a music show would be a good sign, but I think the companies should look at more than just that like popularity, reception among their current fanbase, reconciling that with the group and where they want to go, etc.
I think you mentioned on the podcast once that there was a music show that had an actual helicopter on the stage but it was decorated with flowers and other things. I went and checked it out and that was definitely an interesting aesthetic/concept that I don't think I’d see anywhere else, haha. (Or at least not that often) I’m also not 100% sure this was during a music show, but I think it was…?
Pagatraya Amandanson Makkronnie Yartkinfin kind of sounds like it would be the name of royalty or a noble in a Sci-Fi story. I like it! haha But I hope music shows find a way to survive, even if the industry feels like they serve no purpose any longer. It'd be like if the government banned vinyl due to the fact that we can get music online now. Like yeah, it's convenient and stuff but Vinyl discs still have their unique points and experiences that they can bring. I hope things don’t get to the point where they stop doing them completely…
Oooh, thank you! That's a nice comparison as well!
@@BlushCatOfficial You're welcome! And thanks! There's something sad about things disappearing even if technically they're not “needed” anymore…
Just another day in the life of a K-POP idol! haha
“He needs to wash his pig 🐖, okay?” “😌 Respectable.” I'm so glad I got context for that, hahaha. I don't think I’m going to explain anymore so I don't spoil it for anyone else watching lol.
I watched the video (it said it was posted 10 days ago, I hope it was the same one you're talking about) and the crowd looked like they were going crazy, so I think that's a good sign that they got some new fans! If they like the performance enough there's a good chance they'll want to check out more of their stuff! That’s kind of why I'm here now since I watched Devin’s Jenny LeClue Let’s Play and started watching her other videos then the BlushCat channel had a grand revival and then I started watching these oddly relaxing/entertaining even though I still don't feel like I know that much about K-POP podcasts, too, haha. Let's hope the same thing happens with some of the people in that audience!
i know this video is from a while ago but the post chorus of melting point also sounds like DJ got us fallin in love by Usher. I think it sounds even closer to his song
Oh yeah! It definitely does sound like it!
I like how sort of free-form this content is, I dunno I just felt really informed by the end of it, haha. 1:12:04 - I appreciate everything you do to keep this channel up and going with fresh new videos and shorts! I wish I could phrase that in a more inspirational way, but hopefully it helps? haha
Thanks so much!
@@BlushCatOfficial You're welcome, keep up the good work! 🙂
I keep missing these! Maybe my brain 's being pulled in too many directions… 😵💫 Anyway, you can just feel the sibling energy with Devin’s comment at the end after Haencient goes all detective mode, hahaha.
Hahaha!
bros making a podcast with herself
Just listening to this I feel like I'm absorbing knowledge of K-POP idols by osmosis. Probably partially the point, but still it's interesting hearing about who's into meme culture or was on a survival show in the past, haha.
You could even group the playlists by series! Like a “Detective Grimoire” folder with Secrets Of The Swamp and Tangle Tower in it and a “Psychonauts” folder with Psychonauts and Psychonauts 2. Folders like “Feel Good Games” *would* be good for curation purposes even besides that, though, haha.
I missed this short yesterday! …somehow. But anyways, good job on the tier list despite your struggles with it!
Throughout the video you were talking about how certain songs were “Red” or “Velvet” or both. After listening to the album, I think I know what you mean? haha There was a mix of spooky, sort of scary, macabre sounds (Red) and ethereal, tranquil, relaxing sounds (Velvet). So I think I understand the band’s brand a little bit now. I think my favorite out of all the ones I listened to was “Nightmare”. I agree with a lot of your thoughts on the song, like how it sounds like a creepy carnival and how it mixes the “Red” and “Velvet” together well, haha. I think I liked all of the songs, there weren’t really any that I hated or anything but I kind of want to give a special mention to “Bulldozer” just because of the sheer “If you get in my way I'll crush you 😤” feelings it evokes, appropriate for the song’s name, haha. I liked listening to your thoughts as always, I found myself agreeing with *a lot* of what you were saying about the songs this time around, haha.
It's a relief that my thoughts were conveyed and relatable and I'm glad you enjoyed the album as well! Thanks for listening and remember to stay meowin'!
@@BlushCatOfficial You're welcome! Meow 🐾 haha
When I heard the intro I thought Oliver was talking about placing the songs on the tier list, not the actual process of _making_ it. Well, I'd like to say your struggles are appreciated! The visual system to differentiate who placed what was pretty useful I'd say, haha. Also, you both mentioned that there are changes coming to BlushCat soon … I kind of like the cats talking with the cotton candy-colored void background but if you're making any big visual changes hopefully I'll like it. I tend to like a variety of art styles and aesthetics so I probably will, haha. Also also, I didn’t know about Devin’s struggles making the art for the ASMR episode. I really liked listening to that episode, so I really appreciate all the drawing and re-drawing you had to do. I enjoyed -seeing- hearing about what goes on behind the scenes like this so thanks for the episode! It's kind of weird to think there might not be that many episodes of BlushCat as I know it left, considering the change coming up 🥲 but I’ll probably like what the new changes are.
Thanks so much for enjoying this behi and appreciating our struggles haha! Don't worry, the cats aren't going anywhere 😏
@@BlushCatOfficial Hooray, long live the cats! 🐈 haha
