เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 23 ต.ค. 2022
Sea Kayak Life is all about our stories, adventures and journeys. We have over 20 years of paddling experience, and have paddled over 12,000 miles, exploring destinations from the Chesapeake Bay to Tampa Bay. We started Sea Kayaking because we believed that this was the best way to go places and find adventure on the water. What started out as a hobby, has turned into a lifestyle. Welcome to our Sea Kayak Life.
EP20 Kayaking The Hiwassee River Blueway

Thank you for the detailed descrption My next project.
Good luck! Let us know how it turns out. Thanks for watching
And... we just found the same problem on our other Epic 18X, so that's gonna be our next project as well!
Amazing job, guys! 🇧🇷
Thanks! We appreciate you watching. Share with your friends please 👍
Nice drone shots!
Thanks!
Nice ride. Was it low tide, high tide? Any wind needed for that kind of ride?
As I recall the tide was coming in. The wave wasn't that big. Sometimes the smaller waves give the best rides. Wind was not a factor, but I remember it being a cool day. Thanks for watching!
@seakayaklife thanks for the reply. I'm driving up this weekend for memorial day and it will be my second time. First time i had wind and waves and allot of craziness.
Yes the wind can really complicate. Admittedly, surfing is not my strength, but I enjoy smaller waves. We also like surfing on a sandbar or the mouth of a river. That way the waves don't dump us on the beach.
Great job guys. I have an old Prijon Seayak (2003) you may ask how come I have not bought a new one. Well, it is indestructible. LOL. But at my age now 62, I may want to get a bigger cockpit entry. I love this day hatch project... another inspiration from you guys. BTW, I am passing the word to some friends about this channel. For all those tinkers... :) Cheers!
Thanks for spreading the news about the channel! Mark has an old Dagger Atlantis and I have a Necky Elaho and we really keep them around for the same reason, they're indestructible. Thanks for the kind response. It's good to hear from people who enjoy our films
Hey guys that’s a great video and a beautiful river to kayak on. I notice you have Valkyrie kayaks. I have one too but I have an issue with the footrests (the fixed part underneath, not the part on top that moves the rudder). Whenever I put some pressure on the lower footrest, it moves slightly and makes a clicking noise. I wonder if they all do that, or if there is a way to fix it before I buy a new part. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
Just guessing based on what you've described; the bottom "fixed" pegs on ours have a little play in them, so maybe that's the clicking noise you're hearing? We haven't really noticed any clicking on ours. The only other thing could be a loose adjustment slider, but ours seem really snug.
I was thinking that we had to tighten up the side rail screws supporting the foot pegs on my boat. But I don't remember any noise.
Thanks for the replies. Maybe mine are just not good. You can buy new footrest kits so maybe I will do that. Also there is a small grey screw pointing out the front of the footrest bar. You can turn it a little to adjust something. I was guessing it was fine adjustment for the rudder (what else could it be?) but it seems to make no difference whether it is all the way in or all the way out. Any ideas on that? I really liked your video on lowering the thigh pads too. I hope to try that one day. Regards Martin.
That gray screw is for adjusting the "angle" of the toe steering pedal (smaller top one). It can make quite a bit of difference towards how much you have to bend your ankle to steer.
@@seakayaklife Aha! I will try that then, many thanks for the replies guys and keep up the good work.
Hi there, from Brazil. I have the same problem on my Epic V7. What is the thickness and manufacturer of the tube you used?
Glad to help out! We used 6mm Pneumatic Nylon Tubing made by TAILONZ PNEUMATIC 【Model】Nylon Tube - Air Line 【Size】6mm OD, 4mm ID tailonz.com/product/tailonz-pneumatic-blue-pu-air-tubing-pipe-hose-pu-air-hose-for-air-line-tubing-or-fluid-transfer-tubingcopy1671674695906copy167167499copy1671688589712
My kind of guys… I got a nice Prijon Seakak 2003 as my first boat, love it but has a small cockpit and same tight braces… could not fit right, but this video gave me confidence to modify the pads to make it happen! I also added hip padding. Thanks!! New subscriber here!
Awesome! Outfitting the kayak to fit you is so important. Glad we could provide you encouragement. You made my day with this comment. Thanks for subscribing.
Such a hard job cutting plastic 😂😂
If you're making a joke, we probably do deserve a laugh for how dramatic we seemed. I mean, cutting plastic is easy, right? What makes it hard is when you realize you have to make a perfect cut cuz there's no real way to recover if you mess up, cut too big, cut in the wrong place, etc. We've done tons of plastic boat mods over the years, mostly drilling holes here and there. If you mess up, you can just plastic weld it and start over. But cutting a 6" circle within 1/16" in a $3000 new boat? It was a little stressful! 😃
To pull the string through the tube, first push a thin wire through, attach the string to the wire, then pull the wire back out. This is often the technique used for model aircraft control surfaces. I also saw another Kayak repair video where they use a vacuum cleaner to suck the string out. Thanks for the video.
Good idea with the wire. We might try it for the next time. The vacuum sounds interesting. Thanks for watching!
That was so fun to watch. What a fun little adventure!
Thanks! This is one of my favorite trips, and I think it might be my favorite video. Thanks for watching! Please share with your friends and help us grow the channel!
Beautiful! What waterway is that?
It's an offshoot of the Tennessee River. I guess technology it's Wolftever Creek. It is a beautiful area
Thanks for watching!
Perfect time to travel, all the NPCs were too frightened to leave their homes. I was loving it, looking forward to the next one.
Well certainly the traffic was better.
Happy Father’s Day!
It was a very good day
Sometimes a small adjustment is all you need. Kayak fitting is an art that for sure!
Absolutely! I like your word "fitting". It's the truth.
Thanks for watching!
The big guys aren't going to do this as 2 of the biggest are goneish? Lendel hasn't made a thing in a year and Werner was sold to river focused Jackson.
Good point indeed! Well... all the more reason to take matters in your own hands... that was an unintentional good pun 😃
Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Little tip for a hole saw run in reverse on plastic
That is a good tip. We actually tried that for a bit but it generated so much heat that it started to melt the plastic. It might have been ok on the actual boat since it's a much harder version of polyethylene, but we didn't like the "all in" one shot you get with a hole saw. That dremel attachment was so easy to control and I'm a big believer in cutting slowly and leave yourself a way out!
That is actually an excavator to be specific. Great video!
Ya we know, but excavator is hard to say. Backhoe is inaccurate but it rolls off the tongue. LOL
Great work. I guess it’s difficult to have a a mass produced boat that’ll fit everyone. I find the ratchet system really good, you can really torque yourself into the thigh braces but obviously you needed a bit more refinement. P&H are receptive to feedback in my experience.
We love that ratchet system. We had a similar system back in the day but this version seems better. The main thing for us was having your knees more vertical, which is typical for racing or a "fast sea kayak". Glad we figured it out cuz we love these boats. So where do paddle? You seem to know P&H.
@@seakayaklife I live near Aberdeen, Scotland and paddle all over the UK really. I just sold my P&H Virgo which was a great boat, but I wanted something faster, with more storage. I’ve had a Scorpio in the past and had a shot of the Delphin, which has the ratchet system. I’m familiar with it as they have them in Pyranha white water boats.
Back to the open waters !
Our happy place
Those trees on the beach are so pretty looking! Peaceful
Yes! It's almost amazing that there are islands with no people.
Made it all the way to the beach !
My landing was all sideways, LOL
There are no machine guns in this video
Well, you can hear them.
What don’t you wear your buoyancy aids ?
Looking great! Keep the videos coming.... You should give the TI a try!
Thanks for watching and subscribing! What's the TI?
Oh Tybee Island? We have two videos about Tybee and Little Tybee
Hobie Tandem Island. (sailing kayak) www.youtube.com/@seewind
Great video. Its a beautiful location!
Glad you enjoyed the video and subscribed. Share with friends . Thanks
Love the map of the islands with the explanation! The sound of the machine guns were cool. Almost like fireworks.
Thanks for watching Patrick. We need to get together and talk shop.
Always Great to find someone else making content! G'day from Australia
Hey Dan, it's Dan. Thanks for watching. I'll check out your channel and send some thumbs and subs.
The gunfire you heard is from the rifle range, likely a training day. First round will be a couple hundred recruits firing single fire,,, the longer sections will be rapid fire where they are each firing 10 rounds.
We've heard the training many times. Always fun to listen to it. Thanks for watching
Pretty well done. My wife and I were caretakers for the privately owned part for 5 years in the late 1980s. We helped maintain the jeep trails throughout the island for the Feds. Loved the north end. We'd watch the fireworks on Tybee from Fort Morgan on the 4th of July. There were occasional issues with poachers so you likely came across one on one of your trips. Nice job! Brought back memories.
Thanks for watching and subscribing . We love Wassaw! I can't imagine living there. Wow!
Loved this one!
Thanks! We had a blast on this one. Wild ride going back.
❤ love this channel youtube.com/@ournexttrail6029
Thanks so much!
Wow, this was such a great video. I Really enjoyed your filming / editing style.
Thanks so much for the feedback. We're working very hard to deliver something unique and engaging. Thanks for subscribing. Share with your friends. Thanks!

Very cool video as all of yours are great! One of my kayaks, a Carbon Petrel Play, is pictured at 1:37 and is owned by a guy named Joe. Tybee is one of my favorite spots to paddle! If you guys are up for a little road trip and possible paddle, I'd happy to have you out to my shop and put you in a couple of my kayaks for a test paddle.
Hey Joey, we've been talking about doing an east coast trip in the summer. Your shop and paddling your boats could make a great episode. Additionally I have an epic 18x which needs a little work. Mark and I have been talking about doing the work ourselves, but maybe we could have you show us how to fix it as an additional show. We could do a little cross promotion? Just some quick thoughts. I'll talk to Mark to see what he thinks. Thanks for watching and reaching out.
@@seakayaklife, sounds great! Maybe you could teach me some video editing tricks as well. Would love to have you guys and have a really cool place I can recommend for accommodations while you are around.
I enjoyed the video as always. 18mi is about the limit of my sea kayak life 😀. I just wish you two got views commiserate with your content and editing prowess. Kayaking YT seems rough go with the algorithm. Maybe a bit more gear reviews will bump things up? It seems to work a bit for Ken (paddle tv) and Brett (otaku).
ya, this is a long one. It's a little more cinematic in style with the long shots. I'm always learning and experimenting with what works best with YT. But I'm really happy with this one personally. I have a backlog of videos right now of adventures. We are planning to film a few videos that are gear specific, but no reviews unless companies send us stuff :). Thanks for watching. I appreciate you and the feed back
Outstanding video! Mark you did Kirchoff proud.
Glad you liked it! I hope it was long enough for you :)
Spot on. Great story line.@@seakayaklife
Hi guys. Great video! Random idea: if you are ever interested in coming east, my son and I are thinking about a long paddle from Lewes DE to Cape May NJ (and taking the ferry back). Would be about 16 miles open water, so fairly long, but would be great to have you join.
Thanks for watching! That sounds like a great paddle. We do paddle up that way from time to time, so we'll keep your offer in mind. We actually did a 16-mile open water across the Chesapeake Bay a while back, due west of where you're talking about.
Hi guys. Peter here from Aus. I am a huge fan of a minimum of at least a front tie down. Roof racks are designed to have weight bearing down. The are not designed to have the wind causing intense upwards pressure. Particularly at highway speeds and even more so with huge oncoming semi trailers creating even more uplift on major highways. Just saying! Otherwise, love your channel.
We are also fans of front (and rear) tie downs. We have used them in many situations, especially when hauling multiple boats in rough weather. Great advice. One of the advantages of hauling certain sea kayaks upside down is they become so aerodynamic that they actually have a slight downward push on the front bar. But we realize that's considered strange by many car toppers!
Glad you are also a fan of front and rear tiedowns. Interesting point you make about the downward pressure when boats are conveyed upside down. Sounds pretty reasonable to me. Take care out there.....Peter@@seakayaklife
Fantastic - I'm really pleased to have found you both. Best wishes from a fellow sea kayaker.
Thanks for watching, subscribing, and the positive feedback back! Share us with your friends. Thanks!
Nick, hi this is Dan. I just went to your site and started looking at your videos. Very nice! Can't wait to watch more. As I subscribed, I notice how many subscribers you have. WOW! We launched our first videos in February of this year, and growth his been slow, but steady. We have 257. I'm a little disappointed because we work very hard to have high production values and quality stories. I would be very interested in some feedback on how to grow our channel. You're an example that it can be done with this niche topic. Thanks
Hi Dan, my suggestion is to keep going as you are. You will be discovered sooner than later and viewers will appreciate your natural style of filming kayaking. I’m lucky because I have quite a big Twitter following (@LifeAfloat) and whenever I put a film up, I let them know. Do you have social media outlets for your channel? This might help. From what I’ve experienced, it’s a game of patience. All of a sudden you’ll make a film which captures everyone’s imagination. Very best wishes, Nick
Thanks for the encouragement. We use Facebook for additional social media. I post on other kayak sites, but I feel a little awkward doing it. About two months ago I started posting "shorts" and that seemed to give us some momentum. I'm in it for the long game, but it's a slow process. Great hearing from you. Dan.
Great job, thank you for sharing. Happy paddling.
Thanks for watching. Hope you subscribe and share with friends. Paddle on!
Im really enjoying this production quality of your show!
I love hearing that ! We work really hard putting together a well crafted show. Share with your friends please, we're really hoping to grow the channel. I'm working on some new content from our latest trip.
Wow that looks peaceful !
Except for the alligators
Will you guys be making a video of your trip?
Yes! We got about 4 in the que. Awesome footage! Thanks for watching. Share with your friends!
Will do!
Great tip for the roof rack noise. I'll do that to my rack also.
It's like a miracle! Thanks for watching. Share with your kayak buddies
I wanna try that roll with just the paddle blade!!!
It's super helpful to have that roll available. Practice using the front of someone's at first, then move to the paddle blade. And when you're really get good , move to the hand roll. I'm very inconsistent. We use paddle leashes, too. Practice just rolling over without your paddle in hand, pull on the leash, find a blade, and roll up.
Never let go of your kayak and paddle. During the rescue take your paddle and your partners and place them under your deck bungies.
Right or we use paddle leashes
Safety is the number one key!
🔥🔥🔥
Let's compare notes sometime!
Really enjoying your channel, excellent content and tips - fellow seakayaker in Ireland 👍🍀🌊
Thanks so much for watching! I bet you have beautiful places to paddle in Ireland. Please share with friends so we can grow the Channel. Thanks!
Love your videos!!! Quick question: what type of compass do you use on your old kayaks?
Those are Ritchie Kayaker, model S-59W. They don't make that model anymore (too bad because they were great). The newer model is S-99W.
Hey this is Dan, thanks for watching. Glad you're enjoying the videos. Share with your kayaking friends. We're trying to grow the channel.
@@seakayaklife do you recommend that compass? Or is there another one that you think is better?
If you can find the older one I'd get it!. There are still a few around at random outfitters, maybe Ebay. The newer ones are pretty good too if that's all you can find.
Thank you!
thanks
