I love the photos of your dads Metro. There is always something about the slightly scruffy examples that I like.

My mum's work colleague had one. I remember riding in the back during a lift home.

You have a very tidy Metro! My friend had a silver/blue Vanden Plas in the 90s.

I picked up a CD set full of "80's car songs" from HMV for around £5. CDs are definitely more user friendly than tapes as one can skip tracks! I wonder if it's possible to have both a tape and a CD player. My dad's "modern" 2005 Volkswagen has that.

Really nice video, my grandmother had a 1300 estate for years when I was growing up. Really wanted it as my first car, but sadly it was one of those scrapped in the early 1990s. I've still got the badges my dad pulled off it before it was crushed 😢

I'm sorry to repeat to you, what I say to everyone - but Harris Mann didn't actuslly style this car. No one person did - like Alec Issigonis didn't mastermind the Morris Minor (, he only oversaw its development. Which is more than Harris Mann did - he just submitted a sketch, which was less dumpy, but less characterful, than this eventual MASTERPIECE, in my opinion! BUT the shape was taken from an earlier, exclusive sporty coupe , using parts from the Mini 1000! That was called the OGLE SX 1000. By Ogle Design. ( please look this lovely car up on the internet - there is a feature on it!)

Great video. Sully car show is a fab day. Sadly I couldn't be there in a classic this year, but I did come down for a few hours to see the cars. I couldn't believe how many cars were there! Your Allegro looked great as well. Hope you made it back safe👍

So cool seeing all those Allegros in convoy, it could've been a 1970s British Leyland promotional video for the Allegro haha! Your Allegro sounds like its running really well. Can't believe how lucky you got finding those old photos of your car. I love old photos like that, it reveals and documents a bit more of the cars history. Great upload, glad you made it back safe. Its giving me more confidence in my Mini lol, which is making a similar trip from south wales to London next weekend 👍

That started up really well! I'm not sure why Allegros ever got a bad reputation for being unreliable. It started up better than my mini which definitely isn't happy starting up in the cold haha.👍

Great job! Sounds like its running really well. My good friends Maestro recently had this conversion as well and its made a load of difference👍

I love the allegro and most if not all BL cars

Nice clear instructions for a learner, and tho' an offset square steering wheel may be a bit confusing, the Allegro is a nice little car to learn to drive in, not least because it isn't too crazy and that engine whine helps judge gearing well.

Fantastic video and car I had a Allegro 2 back in the day it was a good car not many problems at all and I had a Austin 1100 as well in blue the Allegro was lime green not a popular colour but different keep up the video's a little light resto on the paint and it will be great Dan

The Allegro was a popular car in New Zealand until the arrival of Japanese imports local Allegro assembly was carried out by NZ motor corporation the largest engine was the 1500 although a few 1750s were privately imported from England . I learned to drive in my brothers chocolate brown LE 1300 it was a fun little beast the handling made you feel like you were driving a larger mini yes it had it's faults but what 70s car didn't
