I really enjoyed this episode, but I feel like it's a step down compared to Afterglow, especially in the writing department. It's also admirable that they're trying to increase the scope with voice acting and more cutscenes, but the amateurish nature of them takes away a bit more than they add, especially with how some NPCs (it might've just been the sergeant) are really inconsistent with what lines are voiced. I'd rather the voice acting be used to punctuate some scenes rather than be given to every character.

Fallen Aces and Gloomwood are two of my current favorite games. Love seeing them both get more recognition.

found you through the youtube algorithm, and im really impressed! i tried out both games and both were really enjoyable, but i am so sad that its so short on both ends. i loved playing through gloomwood esp since i was never apart of the thief era, and replaying the old thief games (and even the new one) was a bit of a chore due to its age. loved the analysis though! keep up the good work mate <3

You can one shot the goat man. First go to the attic and keep going forward till you can see an explosive barrel and gunpowder. Then place a bear trap in front of the crate thing next to it. Then just lure him up, get him stuck in the trap and use a fire round from the undertaker on the GUNPOWDER and it should one shot him. I play on blood moon and it works fine so on lower difficulties it should be easier. Also the hunts/woodsman are infected with something not necessarily cult members.

Just finished the game a month ago and I went with the other path and shot Baker which made the rest of the game more interesting because you no longer have the black market equipment/loadout screen and you have to make due with what you scavange from the levels. Really like it when games take everything away from you as a final test of the game's core mechanics. Nice review and best of luck👈

While Fallen Aces looks very good, my complete interest is in Gloomwood. I played some Thief a few months ago and while I respect it and is cool, the fact that you don't have any real form of defending yourself turns me off. Gloomwood is a perfect stealth game that gives you the opportunity of shooting the enemies if you screw up. Its art style is amazing and future levels sure will look on par or even better than the Thief games in that aspect. Very excited for it.

Those radiation empties were pretty easy to deal with unless you're in a single file corridor tbh. I think you had more trouble than you needed to because you wanted to crowbar everything, even on survival ammo is plentiful enough to just go at it imo.

Man, this game is so much brighter in your edition. I think a subsequent patch made everything darker and more atmospheric - those NVGs were a lifesaver as a backup tool in the dark since you use the lantern so much.

The bayonet is actually super useful for mutants - a charge and immediate follow-up shot can quickly wipe em without needing the whole crowbar dance. Kills human enemies in one hit, and is often easier to land from a safe distance than a strong crowbar attack due to the forward charge and I think a subtle lock-on.

Man, now the next installation of ashes is on the way. Crazy how time flies.

It's strange how hl1 fans seem to hate certain chapters. The puzzles and platforming are what defines half life.

I didnt like the second half. Felt really easy and made you run around far too much.

Dropping this for the sake of anyone in the future: you don't need to fight everything in the gym or the game. Just take out a few then book it out the door as there is literally nothing to get between there and the exit. There's a few spots in HR that are just straight up booby traps for the incautious, a true 100% run is gonna be tough.

Just finished it and it was fantastic as always. OH and on the flashlight, I honestly found it faaaar better than the lantern. Could have been my settings, IDK, but the lantern just illuminated things like crap for me and barely went like 5 feet in front of me. I hope for episode three the flashlight makes a return. Oh and BTW, episode 3 is looking to be called Ashes DEATH ZONE.

I initially cheated on the Hat achievement pre-Xen release. I reclaimed that glory into doing it again, and even went leagues into bringing it to the endgame. It was hell of an experience but damn it was worth it. Soon, I will go for the pizza achievement. Subbed!

the vr mod for black mesa makes xen the original xen, kinda disappointed that i didn't get to see the new stuff in vr (also i dont remember gonark in vr black mesa but that could be my shit memory but i deffinately remember it in half life 1 vr)
