Here's a harsh dose of reality for people of color in social work: most managers are entitled white women with rich husbands to pay all their bills. And these managers make the social work work experience harder than it has to be for people of color, ranging from microagressions to blatant racism.

Everything you said is 100% true in the United States right now in 2024. I'm 10 years into the profession, and I have yet to find any institution that is not worse than they were a decade ago, or even 4 years ago. They burn out everyone more than ever and never understand why their retention is bad.

As a grown man who grew up in the state for a period of time. I believe the whole institution is evil. When I tell speak my mind to these mfs they get in the feelings. Ion come of friendly I also do it on purpose, these social works are sheltered white girls who think they training gonna help them identify situations lol

I was a social worker for 21 years. I did my first 2 years in Child protection but then had to keep moving to different fields including disability, Fostering, and Asylum Seekers team. It helps to have good managers and regular supervision too to avoid being overloaded with work and burning out.

@@youngblacksocialworker293 probably not. I’m already looking at experienced CDL job positions and social work doesn’t come anywhere close to the pay.
