Ah thanks for that nuts spanner man ! You have had helluva motoring time , the overdrive was a great innovation and saved fuel . I can remember a gallon costing 4/11 ! That was in the era of Green shield stamps and cigarette coupons ! I love the MGB , breaks down a bit , usually from overheating , but on a normal country run , it’s great !

Yes Patrick. , the builders did a great job with the main stand , been there since the 1930’s , the old pop side , you could see on my film , it had a big capacity when you could watch right from the back of it , in the shed area !

Great story Roger ! I was ten years old in the mid sixties so could enjoy Belle Vue Gardens when it was at its best !

Spot on Lunn ! In its heyday it was helluva place . It was there for a long , long time . Got through two world wars , it was a treat to go there for a long day out .

That be okay , no problem . I shot it all with my super 8 sound camera , I still have it !

I may still have the mini dv tape , you can borrow this as it might give you a better picture and sound , if I can find it though !

Thank you Andrew for your comments . The two films are based on what archive footage I actually have and think they are as good as I can get them . I have some other footage for a possible part three . Overall the films are as good as the clubs first history video but as you say , it is just a fragmented look at the clubs history . George Best , yes , he wasn't there long enough !!

Yes , we only just scraped home 3-2 as our defence went asleep towards the end . When the third goal went in , it was the loudest roar I have ever heard for a County goal to this day !

Nearly 10,000 in for the Swansea match . That was his best game that he actually played for us in my view .

@@DA-dw5zn I remember all the games as if it was a few years ago . It was so exciting to have such a world star at Edgeley Park , he was only twenty nine years old at the time , I think we expected a bit too much from him , but he was still a class act !

Thanks Martin . Paul Tyrer was pretty good , fearless rider but had a lot of mechanical problems if I remember but played a major part in the Aces early 1970's success .Yes I had forgotten he rode for the Ki gs Lynn Stars until I got the film reel out of the attic !!

In its heyday it was a day out I looked forward too as a young kid .My mother loved feeding the small monkeys .

@roynicol8353 I'd have been about 11 at the time. Me and my dad only ever went to a handful of Aces away meetings and it turns out that this was one of them. I was only a young lad but I can remember feeling quite upset by the way Wilkie was treated by the local crowd. I'm fairly sure that I heard on the coach on the way back that a fan had thrown a brick at Wilkie and it had injured his hand. Would be interested to know if you or anyone else had heard anything similar.

@@johnheavyside6486 All I remember was the Aces manager Eric Boocock thought the Aces were robbed , the last heat was a 5-1 toKings Lynn though … I did interview Alan quite a few years later , he wasn’t bothered about the crowd , his grievance was with Geoff Dalby the referee , who Alan thought should be sacked as he made the wrong decision !!

Thanks Manc 72 . We were like a family that worked there and did as much as we could to keep the stadium going . Sadly , money was the problem , no investment . Maybe we’ll get a new track in the north west someday.

Thanks Takata . It was a big treat for me to go for a day out there . I agree the zoo , then , seemed to be modern enough , I guess a city centre zoo just became a bit outdated eventually , But I enjoyed many happy days there !

Thanks Popicirn99 , that Stretford End was a helluva place to watch football , went there a few times with mates from school, but I actually support Stockport !

The zoo closed in 1977 . The speedway closed and was relocated in 1988 .Hope that helps!

Yes , he was a legend of Belle Vue Aces , a typical performance at Kings Lynn , all passion and heart !

yeah, he was there at Hyde Road when I was a kid. He broke his back in 78 and was put in a wheelchair. He died in 2020 age 71

Yes Hackney Roy,Frank Hodgson was the captain who after the war was captain of Middlesbrough Bears along with his brother Jack.

Yes it is . I find speedway so exciting to watch . A fair chance over the next two or three years we could get Swindon , Coventry , Wolves , back on track and possibly a team at Northampton now they are revamping their stadium !

Indeed yes . If health and safety officers were to see children enjoying elephant rides , the officers would have a mental breakdown !!

Yes Timothy , whenever I have been there , there was always a lot of overtaking and good racing. Looks like Kings Lynn are on a bit of a revival now which is great !

The Gorton Monastrey have a few good Belle Vue Zoo displays and sometimes have talks there and bits of video showing . Helps to keep the memories of the Zoo Gardens alive . Yes , maybe Peel Holdings could build a zoo . There were rumours of the possibility of one , near to the AJ Bell Rugby League stadium , the other side of the Barton Bridge !!

Thanks Paul for the comments . Is Rye House stadium still up and running ? I am just glad I filmed what I could with this match and glad I managed to salvage it and make something worth watching . Been a fan since 1967 and looking forward to Belle Vue Aces this season . Kings Lynn seem to have turned the corner which is good for the sport !

I actually watched Manchester City play Ipswich Town in the FA Cup when Bill Mcgarry was Town manager . I remember Ray Crawford scoring a brilliant goal . I follow all sports , in football , I support Stockport !

Ah thanks . It was a great place to chill out and relax especially around the Zoo enclosures . You were sort of coocooned in a different world . The small monkey house was our favourite animal attraction and when I got a bit older I got quite hooked on the speedway !
