I cater to the Ford enthusiast and your typical DIY shade-tree mechanic. I will initially walk through a 1992 Ford Ranger V8 swap, and then move to modifications to my 1991 Ford Mustang Fox Body. The Fox body modifications will included a Coyote-swap and an IRS-swap.
Second Coyote Start and Plan to Move Ahead
Excited to see it easily start a second time. I talk about my plan to move ahead. Also do some wheel fitment measuring.

Well, loyal followers. I've been plugging away over Thankgiving Break 2024 in order to finally fire my 2011 Coyote Truck engine. As always, it's taking longer than expected. Trying to go through all the proper steps so I don't have issues when the engine starts, but keep running into road-blocks in order to be prepared to even attempt to start the engine. But this is the road we take to engine ...

How did you figure out the wiring harness and computer for the EFI ? Working on one now 96 explorer engine into a 91 ranger . Wiring kit from Ron Francis is 1200 bucks 👎
A lot of Googling of wiring diagrams. Since the engine came out of a 1991 Mustang, we looked at engine and chassis harness schematics for both the car and the 1992 Ranger. And some trial and error and use of a multimeter. Trust me, it took a while, and luckily we had all the harnesses for both vehicles to work with.
Sweet, sounds great! The plans for the wheels sound pretty amazing too, build it your way!
I got a little creative on my fuel lines. This video is where I put them. I ended up moving the regulator line in a later video. They are nice and tucked away. th-cam.com/video/lmck-RT6GrI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=48FfEZ6X60_5Xxq1
Awesome video! Sounds like a beast Bro! Huge step forward with her running! BTW gun metal gray would be cool! 👊🏾
Awesome!!! Thanks for sharing your project!!
Oh the feeling! Good job man. I been there with the T-X. The whole time I said, he’s got dirty ignition power🤣
That'll do it. That right, you're running that on Black Sunshine, right? That Aces setup looks pretty decent, too!
Hell yeah! Great job, she'll be rolling in no time!
Plan is as soon as the salt is washed off the roads in the Spring.
CONGRATULATIONS BROTHER!!! 🍾🎉 Lots of troubleshooting to get there, but you did it!!! For what it’s worth I am proud of you!!💯🏁👊🏾
Thanks, bro. The support is worth a lot!
Sweet! So close to first fire, can't wait to hear it fire up!
Will be working on that video tonight!
All your wiring is looking like it will work. You did good testing Bro! Fingers crossed for first start success!!
Thanks bro! That footage is coming!
If you had used the 5.0 Explorer front dress and water pump, would you have been able to install the radiator in the stock location without cutting into the core support? I live in AZ so there is no option to NOT have AC.
So does he just talk the entire video and not show any work actually being done?
I really like the way you running the battery cables! You are progressing quickly and efficiently with your build!
Thanks Bro! Motor City, here we come!
@@puzzlefox5.076 Heck yeah!!
Is that Barney’s bone creeper?
LOL!
Looking good! Are you using the computer to switch the starter instead of the stock wiring?
At thos point, stock wiring is the plan. I don't have the computer hooked up yet.
Might wanna reconsider that cable path. Why not just run it up the passenger side which uses less cable and decreases resistance/loss and the opportunity for cutting/rubbing?
I hear you. I struggled with this for a while and do agree that I'm running a lot of cable. I was a little concerned about running it in the passenger side of the cabin next to the Terminator X ECU and all the wiring for that. I was concerned that it would mess with the all the signals in the wiring for that. Maybe be the best solution is moving the battery to the driver's side to shorten the batter cables up a bit. Maybe more to do and consider.
The wiring sure looked intimidating until you laid it all out. Just a thought… Can you modify the glovebox to put the modules inside of it? Things are looking good!
That was one thought. I had another thought I'm going to look into...but I have to see if it's feasible.
@@puzzlefox5.076 Cool. I can't wait to see what you decide on Bro.
I'm running a T-56, and got the wiring harness for that. The X Max has a port for trans control and I think you could even run an automatic trans with it. The T56 trans wiring does have a control for the reverse lockout solenoid and a wire for the back-up lights.
Holley puts together a nice wiring kit, looks pretty plug and play. Is it more than just engine management? I was wondering about the transmission and brake connections.
Great progress, the inside of the motor looks fantastic!
Good work Brother! That new timing cove is a beauty!! Everything looked nice and clean under the valve covers and timing chain covers! You definitely found a very nice engine!
Awesome job on the fuel tank setup and great DIY troubleshooting on the fuel filter bracket! I am looking forward to hearing your Fox fire up!
Great progress! I got the same kit from LMR, really takes a lot of the guess work out. Not sure how difficult the terminator x is to install but seems like youre getting really close!
did you guys end up using a pusher fan? any overheating problems with the fan mounted on the front?
We did a pusher. No heat issues, that I know of.
Great video! You made a lot of progress. Looks like you'll be able to start it up really soon!
Awesome video! I love the idea of using a label maker to create labels for the wiring! You were very organized in how you took everything apart which makes reassembling go quickly. I see the Shop Foreman was laying down on the job....LOL ...
Ha ha. That the supervisor's usual MO. But he's always there for moral support!
That's an awesome Ford Ranger! It's so nice to see young people working on their own vehicles!
What a fun ride that ranger must be, glad you figured out the smoking issue! Sounds great!
Hey Sleazy, that truck is a hoot! It's the original engine and trans out of my 91 Mustang.
@puzzlefox5.076 love it! Does it drop right in? I remember 5.0 swaps were huge for them.
Pretty minor mods to get the engine in. Most of the work was electrical. And we did some work to the radiator core support to get more room for a thicker radiator.
@@puzzlefox5.076 What type of radiator did you use bro?
I'm trying to remember...I think it is a 4.0L V6 Explorer radiator...to the best of my memory.
Leave the drivers side how you had it to start. Remember it will have an addition of the driver’s weight on that side to make it sit level… Great build!
I didn't think of that. Thanks for the input. I'm figuring once the car is all together, things will change and they will need to be tweaked again, too.
Hey man, just wanted to say this is the best video on TH-cam on how to do this. Yours turned out excellent. Doing this right now on my 04 Mystichrome. Probably the most stressful thing I’ve ever done. This is no easy task. Definitely lots of adjustment and fab needed even with kit from Scott Rod. Just wanted to say what an awesome video and thanks for putting it out there
Thanks for positive feedback and best of luck with your project. I love it and I'm so glad it is helpful to other people. I started my channel in order to document my projects so I could look back over my progress in the future...but also hoped I could help other people out and show that it can be done. I think the best advice I can give is measure and take pictures beforehand to look back at, as you pull things apart, and plan things out. Take it one small step at a time and know that it will take a good chunk of time.
Great video! I don't remember what I did with the spindle bolt, but I think I torqued it before the strut went on. I should check that though, lol. What spindles are you using, 99+?
I looked back in my records. They are 1998 V6 spindles. I thought 1996-2004 spindles were all the same.
@@puzzlefox5.076 yep you are right, I'm bad with numbers. I got the same version on mine. I wanted 94/95 but they're hard to come by.
@@SleazysGarage I think with the Coyote swap, a guy probably doesn't want the 94/95 spindles. I think when Ford went to the modular engines, they had to put the rack lower. The 94/95 spindles have tie rod arm that "S" up...so they would be a couple inches higher than the level the rack is sitting at. At least, that's my $0.02.
@@puzzlefox5.076 I heard something similar but also that the later versions poke the wheels out by 8mm each side. Likely no big deal, but I'm worried about fitment with the wheels I got for it. I'm definitely going to have to modify or use the later fenders. Happy to worry about that later though
Awesome video Jesse! Things are looking really good. I’m sure you will meet your deadline! 🏁👊🏾 As for the spindle bolt… I held on to it and torqued it with a socket before I bolted the strut in place. I bolted the bump steer to the spindle last.
You are making some really good progress Brother! Another step closer to the first start which is totally exciting! Also closer to getting her ready for Motor City Foxfest!! 👊🏾
Awesome, can't wait to hear it start up! I'm up to the same part getting the clutch installed but I don't have a transmission yet. which pivot stud and fork did you end up using?
Sleazy, I think it is still a stock T56 pivot stud. I went with a Ford Performance fork and throwout bearing, I think. Ordered them from LMR.
I may go to an adjustable pivot stud.
nice job really nice. this is why i started doing mine
Go get it, buddy!
Looks great! It's going to handle like it's on rails. Congrats on 1,000 subs!
Thanks man! I can't wait to drive it...it's going to be a completely different car!
Nice job bro 👍
Thanks, man!
@@puzzlefox5.076 You're welcome my brother, that's what we're here for, to support each other.
Does the foxbody oil pan work in the ranger chassis? any mods?
We did keep the Foxbody oil pan. Worked for us.
Nice work!! I enjoy watching this project
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video Brother! Maximum Motorsports products are well worth the money in my opinion. I can't wait to see how she rides with the IRS!
Thanks for watching and the words of encouragement!
Hard to comment on a 3 year old video, but if used 94-95 Mustang timing cover and water pump and front dress you would have more clearance for your radiator, also what year are you working with.
That's a good thought that I didn't have at the time. Engine came out of my 91 Mustang.
@puzzlefox5.076 ? I see your doing a Coyote swap in the Mustang, nice.
I would love to see how the wiring was done, I'm doing a 5.0 swap on the exact same truck and am struggling with the wiring and ecu
Unfortunately, we didn't get much footage of tje wiring. We ended up getting a wiring schematic for the Ranger body harness and the Mustng engine harness...took a lot of studying and some rewiring.
Good work Brother! Those fans leave a lot space between there and the engine for your accessories! Will definitely move enough CFM to keep things cool. Your making good progress and making it all look easy!
Looks great! Thanks for showing this, I bought the same radiator so definitely appreciate the mounting info. Have you wired it in yet?
Sorry, haven't wired anything in yet. Fuel system and Holley TerminatorX are next on tje docket for the car.
Must've been a ton of work and the result is incredible! Love that cage too.

You are really good at welding! Your welds look awesome Bro! That IRS rear suspension looks cool!
Thanks, man! I can't wait to have it altogether under the car and drive it!
@@puzzlefox5.076 I am sure that first drive will be awesome!
Awesome parts Bro! You’re building a beast! That timing cover is going to look super nice when you install it! 🏁👊🏾
Nice parts haul! I bought that same radiator hose kit and then inexplicably the PCM kit came with the same upper and lower rad hoses. Do you have a link for that bleeder screw? That new front timing cover will look pretty great.
