Network States & New Countries: Data Use and Misuse
The ninth webinar in the “Network States and New Countries” series, titled “Data Use and Misuse,” was successfully held on September 30, focusing on the implications of data management and the importance of individual sovereignty in digital interactions.
Vahram Ayvazyan, founder and board chairman of the Panarmenian Network State, opened the discussion by addressing the critical issues surrounding data use and its political implications. He emphasized the need for a thoughtful approach to utilizing data to build a sense of belonging within network states, highlighting the importance of achieving a critical mass of engaged individuals. Vahram raised key questions about how to leverage existing data responsibly and effectively to empower communities while also safeguarding against manipulation by nation-states.
Steef Peters, Director/Owner of Wallet79, shared his insights on the ongoing misuse of personal data by governments and financial institutions. He introduced the concept of "self-sity," advocating for individuals to have control over their financial, human, and social capital. Steef underscored the importance of personal sovereignty in the digital age, noting that trust within communities is essential for successful network societies.
Jack Tanner, who stepped in for Phil Patterson (Commercial Director at Pangea) due to Phil’s illness, discussed the potential of peer-to-peer data exchange without third-party intermediaries. He emphasized that enabling direct interactions can significantly enhance trust-building in digital communities, which is vital for the future of network states. Jack argued that fostering such trust is essential to overcoming the challenges posed by an increasingly distrustful internet landscape.
Eric Belarbre, an international engineer and network state researcher, discussed the technical aspects of data management and the role of decentralized technologies in fostering community engagement. He emphasized the need for infrastructure that enables individuals to interact securely and autonomously, enhancing their ability to build trust and collaborate within networked societies.
During the Q&A session, the speakers addressed the complex relationship between data, technology, and societal frameworks, discussing how data can be both empowering and manipulative. Vahram Ayvazyan concluded the webinar by expressing optimism for future developments in the field, noting that the ongoing dialogue about these topics is a positive sign for creating a better world.
Stay tuned for the next edition of the “Network States and New Countries” webinar series at the end of the month. The Panarmenian Network State remains committed to building innovative solutions that shape the future of network states and promote global cooperation.

41:28 - How can we connect all different projects with one another? I think Max Borders have a great answer to this. Religion might be the key here. Just like "religio" could be related to the verb "religare," which means "to bind" or "to tie back."

Boris Reitman, two questions for you: • What do you consider Eastern Europe (and if Central Europe exists in your mind, where's that)? • Could you give some sources supporting your claims that antisemitism was worse in Eastern Europe than in Western Europe? I do indeed know of such sources, widely circulated, yet propagandistic, and I do know facts that indicate the contrary. So maybe I'll learn something I don't know now if you provide sources.

My sources are Herzl’s diaries as well as Weizmann memoirs. I consider Eastern Europe to be everything within the Pale of Settlement. There were no significant pogroms in the 19th century in the western side, as it was in the eastern. By antisemitism I mean not merely the ideology (which may have existed in the west too), but by physical manifestation (pogroms, lack of rights, etc.) Alexander 2 was assassinated in 1881, by a radical political group People’s Will, which had many Jewish members. This triggered a wave of pogroms over the following years.

Thanks for explaining in detail. It's of course right to assign more weight to antisemitic actions than just sentiments or words. Yea, under Russian rule things indeed tend to be different, not very European. And not just for Jews.

Hi everyone, glad there are people working on this. I have long been interested in the creation of an independent city, and even started its formation, not far from the city of Kiev. But you know what prevented it. I would like to add that two important things are being ignored: work and language. The slowness of the formation of network states is caused by this very thing - people have to earn money, and accordingly, any network state should start with the creation of commercial structures that will allow people to provide for themselves. In this way people can easily move to any place (for example, where many citizens have gathered) and stop seeing the network state as a pampering of rich and/or ideological people. The second is language. As much as we pretend that English is the right language for this role, it is not. Language is not only a communicative element, but also a cultural element and, through culture, an economic one. Unless we create an independent language (such as Esperanto), it will be impossible to detach ourselves from Western thinking, culture and economy. A new language will finally make it possible to create a new way of life, culture and independent economy. Without it, all our results will dissolve. There are now excellent sketches of what the language of the future could be, as well as volunteer commercial networks (where people start working on something together, and then, when they make a profit, share it amongst themselves). I am willing to join existing projects or participate in the formation of new ones. Telegram nickname @zexler
