I envy Daniel for having such a personally fulfilling job. People with strong characters tend to gravitate towards each other. Daniel and Lucy are an example of that I think.

A good teacher will aways guide students to learn, regardless of who they are, or what capabilities they have.

I've heard her play Chopin and I've heard her play Debussy and I was absolutely astonished. I already sensed she was not only blind, but that she had a certain mental condition too. Severe form of autism explains a lot to me. I'm an Aspie myself, and actually some things explained about how you have to teach her in a different way than you'd normally educate a kid and her ability to teach herself things, they really make a lot of sense to me. I've learned by myself to code and write novel (in Dutch) and well, loads of other things. I've learned more outside of school than inside, I tell ya. When I heard her mother (at least I think it's her mother) explain in an other video that Lucy did love applause but that the sound of it could be too "intruding" for her, I had the feeling autism or something that made her highly sensitive was going on. When I hear Daniel explain how he works with Lucy, I gotta bow. Knowing autism the way you can only do if you suffer from autism, or other condition stronger related to this, it only made sense to me what he said, yet I was astonished to see that he actually worked it out and I bow for him. It must require a lot of patience to work it out. Now a funny thing. Lucy loves jazz and I hate jazz and although the reason I hate it is strangely enough due to my own way of experiencing autism. For me jazz misses some kind of structure and it easily gets spooky in my head when I listen to jazz, the way the harmony is formed in jazz is something I often fail to pick up. Although there are some jazz songs I like, but there are actually few. Lucy on the other hand is because of her condition somehow positively triggered by this. Of course, you cannot compare my condition with hers, especially since Asperger is not really autism, but only closely related to it, yet I can still somehow see why Lucy loves jazz for the same reason I hate it... but it's hard to explain, really. Actually impossible. Perhaps if you are a bit well-versed in autism and related conditions you may understand what I mean. Anyway, I'm in awe. I know autism can trigger talents to levels above average, so that Lucy has this talent doesn't surprise me, now that I know this (still means she's awesome, don't get me wrong), yet having beside her who is able to unlock this talent in her and to guide her on the way to greatness with infinite patience and understanding.... THAT does surprise me more. The world has too little of men like him. Being victim of bad teaching and downright awful guidance (now also suffering from PTSD as a result), I'm even more in awe of Daniel. Daniel, you may not see it, but I'm bowing to you now.

If anything, she teaches people to understand that there is someone in there, as with all kids with autism and other disabilities. Just because she can't hold a conversation doesn't mean she doesn't know what's going on - you can see her music is her speech. She is awesome.

Dear Daniel, I now have so enjoyed watching you teaching Anaya, such a different personality than Lucy. So many teachers could learn from you no matter which children they are teaching, with or without special needs. Your musical ability, as well as your ability to relate to the children you are working with is just beyond I have ever seen. I have been searching the internet to find your email address but was not sure if I found the right one. I have just finished watching 'The incredible Lucy' film, beautifully done as it has given a real over view. not just of Lucy's journey, but also of yours with her. As well as how the school provides such a beautiful supportive environment for children to develop in so many ways. When I came to the end of the film and witnessed how you were treated, hindered from being at Lucy's side at the last minute, to attend the coronation concert, by this cold and rigid bureaucratic system, I just could not stop crying. You so deserved to be next to her!!! And you so deserved an apology afterwards. The fact that Lucy was able to play without you is a tribute to how well and how wisely all of you are working together in your care and work with Lucy.I am just reading the comment below and so agree, you truly deserve some sort of official award as a recognition for your unique approach and dedication as a music teacher. . I truly hope many teachers will take note and learn from you how to teach children in such a way that this truly helps children to enhance who they are, rather than just getting the 'technique' and grades right. Go well and please take also good care of yourself!!

Wonderfully talented young man!

She totally understands the tune. I mean totally, better than most. How? Is it by listening? I cannot understand how she can get it all so well. As far as I know, she cannot really communicate all that well. I am totally stunned. I cannot imagine how this is possible. I have heard a story that, when she was small someone gave her a toy keyboard to play with. And somehow, she found out by herself, how to play simple tunes she had heard.

What a talented little girl, she not only plays the tune but also improvises too, I could listen to her all day.
