I was going to say the same. Why not buy the fresh fruit instead or canned? Of course is going to taste acidic because of the preservatives. Nothing like fresh fruit to cook!

That canned jackfruit just looks sad, too bad you can't get fresh whole ones, they should grow in the sothern part of US.

If you go to an Asian supermarket you can buy fresh jackfruit. It’s sweet and tastes like mango or pineapple combined with banana… fantastic! Try it if you can find it where you live.

Thanks for this, not a Vegan but I am making some beef cheek barbacoa for Xmas and I wanted to make something for my nephew so he doesn't feel left out or miss out on glorious taco fun :) Actually super interested to try this myself as I've never had jackfruit at all. Looks like they sell it in water here in Australia, so I might have an easier time of it!

Try “ginataan” jackfruit (just looked it up, it’s called Lanka in Tagalog). It’s a Philippino recipe where it’s cooked in coconut milk…absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, for vegetarians, it’s cooked with pork but I guess you’ll be able to work around that. Good luck.

I'm in the UK and our jackfruit is just canned in water so not sure it will be acidic? Will boil it anyway. Trying to cut down on the amount of processed meat alternatives I'm eating cos I'm reading bad things about it every day.

Thank you! I just tried fresh jackfruit for the first time today. Also bought a can of it in brine, and some already in bbq sauce. Loved the fresh. Had to rinse away some of the BBQ sauce as it was too much and too spicy. But the canned was awful. So I'm glad you showed me what to do with the rest of it.

FYI big tip on heating up corn tortillas, wet them first then throw them on a hot pan so they steam and char but they won’t fall apart. You know it’s time to flip em when they come off the pan easily

I'm going to try this. I opened the can and immediately it smelled so strange. Almost like some kind of medical facility sanitizer or formaldehyde. I didn't' t enjoy the smell of it at all. I had heard that it supposedly tasted like pork but this didn't taste like anything savory at all. It tasted very odd. Even the acidity was not pleasant and I really don't mind acidic foods. In fact I rather enjoy a nice pungent dish. This stuff was just ODD! LOL Thanks for the video. Definitely going to give this a try. Hopefully my next try, I will actually enjoy it.

let me start off by saying i’m not vegan, i just love experimenting with food and flavors! i boiled my jackfruit, rinsed and squeezed out excess water then seasoned it the same way you did, except i used a pork flavored broth. let it sit for about 2 hours and added some chipotle in adobo sautéed with some onion and garlic and bbq sauce i thought it would taste disgusting but honestly not bad lol! thanks for the tips :)

    • @jahmallajaima

Why bother eat the jackfruit then if you added pork flavored broth. Doesnt make sense to me. The reason they do this is for vegans and vegetarians to have a meat substitute.

@@tiaw3423 You make no sense at alll. First off im vegetarian and i eat vegan food all the time. The next thing is i didnt say anything about a non vegan eating vegan food. And once you add pork broth it no longer is vegan. Im addressing the fact thst they added the pork broth to the jackfruit. But the jackfruit is cooked green and made to taste like meat to a certain extent but isnt really flesh. Its a fake meat substitute if you want to callit that
