Sound Recognition uses on-device intelligence to notify users who might otherwise miss audible environmental alerts around them. On iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, users receive a notification when a particular type of sound or alert, such as a fire alarm or doorbell, is detected. An awesome feature for Deaf people! @Apple

ASL : ADVANCED vocabulary and idioms.
มุมมอง 33K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This video will be mostly focusing on Advanced ASL and how can you translate them. I gave out a few good examples, idioms, knowing idioms will help you. I always find it intriguing to see the translation process between American Sign Language and English. I will have to admit, it's not easy to do. Enjoy!
ASL STORY: Three Little Pigs

We are closing schools, stores, restaurants, and many more! I asked myself, "how can I keep them entertained." I created this video specifically to entertain children and adults. I added visual effects, sound effects, and music. It is fascinating how Deaf people get to choose sounds effects and music. MUSIC? Yes, It's beyond my comprehension! I hope you'll enjoy this video.

PLEASE make more of these! I work with low language DHH kiddos and this has really helped us understand, discuss, translate to written handshapes and then into English writing!
I good luck
Great tips! Thank you so much!
Interesting. Y'all are too cute.
I appreciate these videos it's been very helpful to me please continue to make these videos.
I used to interpret 20 years ago for a short time. I haven’t practiced receptive skills in a long time. I’ve been using vids to practice off and on. I’m surprised I read as many as I did. I probably got 80%-85% of the various topic words and all of the specific topic. I saw Pacific for pacifier kind of mistakes. Fun! Thank you!
Please put our more content..Your videos are highly appreciated...Is there an e-mail I could request?
Who decides what is racist? A handshape is just a handshape. The sign for "sleep" or "sleepy." Does that mean that these signs are racist signs too? The hand movements of "Black, Ugly, White" and "Beautiful" are each completely different. Is movement of signs now racist? It comes down to what is in a person's heart and what they are seeing. If you see corruption in everything, then all you see is corruption. To the pure, all things are pure.
This video explains better, which helped me to express and apply those into phonetic courses at my university. Thanks so much, Jeremy 🙏🏾 🎉
I have asked many deaf friends to please let me know if I’m signing something not quite right and help me improve. They never do. I know I’m not signing perfectly so I think they’re just uncomfortable to tell me.

Too fast for me...thanks for the captions
Here in 2024, and currently learning ASL. The tips you gave are a great help! Thanks a ton!
I needed this so much thanks :)
I will get to advanced one day but until then I appreciated the suggestions on how to view the entire word not just individual letters, it really helps
Hearie here, been signing since childhood. A few new ones here for me. Thanks! Definitely like videos like these.
I loved the effects you made :)
This list is almost identical to a much older Bill Vicars video.
I need more of thissss
CHAMP videos...More please!!!!!!!!!!!!
"My birthday is June 25th" I'm watching this on your birthday!! Happy birthday!! (Also you share a bday with my sister!!)
One of the best tips I learned (that also includes a bit of everything you showed in the video) is to focus on the context. So include the shape of the word, focusing on the overall size etc, but focus on what they *could* be spelling. It's similar to the flash cards you used :) I discovered this kind of on my own during ASL class, when the teacher spelled bratwurst. Also, the spelling of that word is weird anyway lol. We were learning about signs for meat in that section of the class, thats where the context comes in. He spelled it really fast, and waited to see if anyone understood. I forgot the sign for it, if there even is one lol, and just said, "wait, is it the thing that's like a hotdog?" Everyone was super surprised apparently haha. It was based on two main tips I learned; trying to catch the whole word instead of individual letters, and ✨️context✨️ Context is so important in ASL, and I'd imagine any other language. Anyway that's something I thought I'd share :P
Wonderful! Please add a way to venmo you tips and money for tickets to these great shows.

Hey, with regards to putting one speaker on hold to have a brief discussion with another speaker, how polite/rude is this method, are there other methods, and what's the general length of time that the second conversation can last before it *does* become rude? I expect these are different from similar moves in English, especially since putting a finger in someone's face like that *is* typically seen as rude -- and because when you're looking away from your conversation partner, you have effectively shut off their *ability* to continue, in a way that doesn't happen for hearing conversational partners (unless perhaps you leave the room altogether).
Several of these are highly visual! I also particularly like "ooh! I thought of something" because it seems super useful to be able to interrupt a flow of thought, and I hope it would be clear if I used it in a conversation, if I ever got that far. It certainly feels like "hang on a minute" plus "think" and "insert in middle" so it feels like it'd be clear even if you didn't know the idiom specifically.
This is why in my conlangs I prefer noun-descriptor order rather than the English version. It's also a useful thought process while writing, using larger chunks of meaning. There's a place for a kind of montage (random snapshots of a location/person/thing), but generally it's good to have a mental camera moving through the scene. E.g. describing a character's outfit as shoes, pants, shirt, hat, rather than shirt, shoes, pants, hat; the brain doesn't have to jump around as much.
This is genius. The level I have been waiting for. Thanks a lot
I'm sorry I can't catch the sign at 47 seconds. Captions say "homework". It's a sign I see a lot but I never understand it. What is it can anyone help? Thank you ❤
Thank you so much, my interpreter training in college NEVER covered the subtle sorts of things like darker or lighter or POP!
Love the beanie❤
Love this teaching!
I'm a beginning ASL student (I am losing my hearing) but very much enjoyed this video. Lots of new words for me so the captioning was appreciated.
Best ever! You are a gifted storyteller. Please do more!!!
Thanks!
If the origin of the signs were racist then I agree. However if people are subjectively noticing that certain signs appear similar (black, ugly) then that's not enough reason to change a language. I'm not Deaf but I see a little too much wokeism in some deaf culture as in hearing culture. Anyone want to help me understand more?
Perhaps consider adding cc, this would be so interesting and a fabulous way for the learning community to enter into your experience and story. I am learning..,;) thank you for posting.
I was bothering my kid yesterday about MOST of these questions. The hand against your hand will work better than bracing my finger against my wrist because feeling my tendons move makes me nauseous.
@L1zHarris reccomended you for signers working on shifting from signing with English syntax to ASL and Im so excited to watch more of your videos! Your energy is so kind

Thank you for posting your videos. I've been a on and off again asl student. I'm hearing. I've struggled with having someone to sign with and your tips help a lot. Found you through another young lady on TH-cam that suggested you and one other person. I enjoy the fact that your hard of hearing (deaf) for the fact that it forces me to actually watch your hands and face. Then I'll read the captions to make sure I'm at least in the ball park and know what I need to work on.
Understood. Thank you!
Thank you so much! Understanding finger spelling has been a huge problem for me for years! I always have trouble understanding what people are spelling to me and I have to ask them to go so slow. Just like when I can't hear what somebody is saying and I repeat back what I think they said, signing back what I think they spelled is such a huge improvement over asking them to sign it again. Thank you so much for this video.
Jeremy, out of curiosity, what has the BASL community thought of currently about that issue? Any updates on the preferences?
Definitely not for beginners. But for those who have experience it would be a good video. Your E hand shape is not what I've been taught....big difference.
I did not expect that outro
I just saw you recommended and I'm glad I found your channgel! Ive only watched a couple videos so far but they are very helpful. I still have to watch most ASL videos on slow speed but i love that i have that option and also being able to go back and rewatch parts like you said. The hardest part of ASL for me personally is learning the right facial expressions especially because im autistic and have trouble with that in general.
Wow! ASL student here. I was not ready. Very insightful thanks. Love your videos
